A gf and I took a browse here the other day and we both found really random things that all of a sudden, we felt the need to have. There’s kitchenware, baby stuff, jewelry, fun gadgets and tons of other great gift ideas! In my case, I spotted a bright pink Hello Kitty ride-on suitcase. You know, one of those tiny, kiddie suitcase thingys that can be pulled along or sat on. I decided I need it. NEED. Not that I could even fit my giant self on it but I don’t care. It’s so dang cute! And it’s got Hello Kitty on it!(Gosh, I’m so Asian…) But alas, I convinced myself I didn’t need it so I left empty-handed. Definitely a shop I’ll go to again when I need to buy a gift. Or when I re-convince myself I really need that suitcase. HA!

It’s a quirky little store with heaps of random but fun stuff. It is clean and in a good spot of vic park. They guy that was working there was super friendly, he even made us some tea and had a chat. No pressure to buy anything just happy for us to be in there.

Popped in to the Good Store in Vic Park yesterday to get myself one of the garlic press thingies featured in the Saturday newspaper. Short story: they didn’t have any. And it wasn’t due to a run on them as a consequence of the article. It was explained to me by the very helpful chap behind the counter that the newspaper will make one visit, photograph a range of goods, then not actually advise the shop when they will publish that gizmo so that they can stock up. That’d be helpful, wouldn’t it? But we are talking about the West Australian here. Enough said. Lovely range of things you’ve always wanted, or didn’t know you wanted until you saw it all beautifully presented, but *ouch* the prices. Sheesh. Mark-ups galore. I own a couple of items in the shop and the worst price discrepancy was $ 45 for a dripless teapot I purchased for $ 10, albeit in a sale, but still… You could opt to do what I did, which is mentally store the names and prices of things you like and shop around on the interwebby for a better price. If your memory is not that good, you can always compare as the Good Store also has an on line store. This will not aid those who have left their gift buying until the last minute, though, I guess. And a purchase will be very prettily gift wrapped if you ask nicely.

The best store! If you are struggling to find something as a present this is the first place you should go. Incredible. So many things in there that you didn’t know you needed but now realise that probably are necessities. My could be so much easier if I had all these things! I spend the whole time in there saying«wow, thats a really really good idea». The service is great, very friendly and helpful. I went in there today to return a gift I bought my partner as it just didn’t perform very well and they were very apologetic and helpful, full money back with no qualms. At christmas time all the staff dressed as prophets wearing leather sandals and robes… hilarious.

I am sure I am not the only one that realises the day before a friend’s birthday that I haven’t got them anything and have no idea what to get. And my old faithful friend the internet can’t help me as I need something tomorrow. I was whinging to another friend about my predicament, who very nicely suggested I go check out The Good Store in Vic Park. It was a good call. This place is has everyone covered for presents. It has gadgets and homewares and toys and more. The prices aren’t cheap, but it got me out of trouble and my friend was impressed with his thoughtful gift.

Really, they ought to call this The Great Store, it’s that good. So clean. So pretty. So stocked with awesome little gadgets and useful big gizmos. And décor that’s namedrop-worthy and unique. From practical(but always pricey) Alessi kitchenware to round paper lanterns emblazoned with insects and flowers that beg to take the place of those ubiquitous oriental ones, there’s plenty too ooh and aah over in the place. Even toys for the kids, accessories for the dog, and Beatles memorabilia so as to satisfy the folks or gran-folks. The lovely girls behind the counter, Mikaela(with a ‘k’) and Fiona(with an ‘F’), will offer you a cup of tea, hot or cold depending on the weather, so as you can sup while taking your leisurely time perusing their wonderful wares. All potential owners of gift shops should come see what a brilliant, clean job of layout and product choice this store delivers. Even their gift vouchers are innovative in design: shaped like one of those origami-paper-game he-loves-me-he-loves-me-not things you used to make in primary school… So promising is the business and brand that an outlet in Melbourne has recently opened, at The Old Post Office in a place called Yarraville. Now that sounds so lovely, I just want to pop on in there on my next trip to Style City.
