I love an all-paid-for birthday dinner and this time my cousin was so kind to have asked me beforehand whether I had tried Azure at the Mezz, because he’d celebrate his birthday there. Azure was right in saying that the food has some influences of South East Asia. Since we went for dinner on a Thursday night, the restaurant itself was quieter than usual. Even so we saw a good number of people had turned up for dinner, maybe about 14 other people in the same room. Not only that, Azure also has a collection of Gold Plated Awards decorated their wall as we walked into the premise. My grandma wanted to know how they put on such beautiful carved wall that went well together with the LED light. My uncle really liked the decoration too especially since he sat on the long sofa with many blue and white cushions. Our entrée came out quite quickly. Crispy squid tentacles with Vietnamese salad & chili mayo was the winning entrée of the night. It was presented beautifully and the the salad was very fresh, I probably can eat it everyday. The crispy squid tentacles tasted lightly crunchy and went well with the mayo. Just like the squid tentacle, our next entrée, crumbled eggplant chips with basil aioli didn’t disappoint as well. The crumbed made the eggplant crispy on the outside while still retained the creamy texture on the inside. Other entrees that we had on the night was the grilled strips of pork belly with romesco and chorizo served with lemon. The only feedback was that the romesco could be a bit more peppery. Azure has a good $ 29.50 special deal for the night which consists of one main and one antipasto platter which only applies for Tuesday-Thursday dine in. The staff confirmed that there was no difference in the portion size of the main meal. My aunt and hubby decided to go for the special. As you can see on above image, the antipasto platter was quite huge and can be shared between 3 – 4 people. It took quite a while for our main to be served but when the staff put the meals on our table, our faces literally lit up with joy. The Black Angus was a 4hr braised beef cheek in star anise, honey and wine. The beef was very tender and it tasted really closely to Indonesian beef stew called ‘semur’ or ‘smoor’ /smothered(Dutch), the difference was that the beef cheek was served without drowning it in a bowl of thick gravy. I grew up eating this so the taste really brought me back to when I was a kid. Served with creamy mash potato, it was a beautiful combination together! The barramundi wasn’t available for the night but grams agreed to the salmon served with apple salad and tomato salsa that was suggested as the replacement. Her piece of salmon was huge! It was served with another refreshing apple salad that I really like. Grams happily gave out half of her salmon to hubby, who happily accepted any meal that he could get that night(hahaha). My other favourite was the fettucini with prawn and creamy vermouth sauce. The pasta was cooked al-dente and so perfect when mixed together with the sweet buttery Vermouth sauce. I really liked this dish a lot that I took a few spoonful from Hubby’s plate. The last main meal to arrive was the crispy skin pork belly. Sometimes when the menu said crispy, the skin turned out to be ‘just okay’ but this dish stayed true to the description! There were 3 big pork belly on the plate and I gave the skin to my cousin(who celebrated his birthday) and hubby. Both of them were huge fan of pork and pork knuckle and both appreciated the crispiness of the skin. The meat itself was very tender and I love the idea of mixing it with kimchee. The lychee, mint and radish salad was a clever combination of palate cleanser and I wish they offer this salad as one of the side dish. One of the highlight of the night was the service. It was only one staff who worked on the floor but he remembered each of our order without having the need to have a notepad and pen on hand. He also the one who started to sing the ‘happy birthday’ song and I think he sang the loudest out of us all! The dinner won’t be as enjoyable without his friendly presence.

I’ve visited Azure a few times for brunch and thought the food as excellent and reasonably priced. I went with a few friends for dinner last week and enjoyed the experience but thought it could be better. Whilst the atmosphere in the evening is lovely, the service was hit and miss. Our waiter was charming but we had to call him over to ask for more water(twice), to order wine, to remove plates and to order desserts. Not really good enough when there are only five tables occupied. I ordered the pan fried gnocchi with mushrooms, pine nuts, asparagus and cherry tomatoes. The gnocchi dumplings were well textured but the dish lacked something that I can’t really put my finger on. One friend ordered the fettuccine with salmon which she gave a big thumbs up too, whilst another ordered the gnocchi with tomato sugo and pangrattato. She gave me a sample of this to taste and we both concurred that while the gnocchi were beautifully soft, the tomato sugo was too tart. You really need a hint of sweetness in the sugo to balance the flavours out. We shared an antipasto plate which was generous serve for the price. There was a mix of interesting tidbits like chilli zucchini and calamari, but also mundane offerings like pickled carrot and lower quality ham and salami. Two of us chose the peanut butter parfait with salted caramel sauce for dessert, and loved the strong flavour of the caramel and the creamy smoothness of the peanut butter. A big winner. Sadly our other two friends chose the trio of crème brûlées, and found that one of the brûlées tasted a bit off, like the milk had soured. It had been a hot day and it’s possible that they weren’t properly refrigerated, but Azure immediately apologised and agreed to deduct the cost of the dessert from our bill, so kudos to them for that. I do think however, that things like this shouldn’t occur in modern restaurant kitchens and there really isn’t any excuse for it. Apart from the dessert incident, it was an overall pleasant experience at Azure, but I feel they need to pay closer attention to the needs of the customers. Perhaps this is why every time I’ve been, the place is almost empty.

We went here for Mothers Day breakfast, service was slow, food came out wrong, food was barely warm and bland in flavour. I had a mocha and my fiancé had a hot chocolate, they both tasted burnt. Coffee drinkers know that burnt coffee is very off putting. The only thing this place has going is it’s ok décor and food presentation. I’ve heard dinner is good here but after my breakfast experience I would not be keen to come back.

I’ve been here quite a few times now and have not been dissapointed. I thought it would be very pricey however It’s actually not that bad, they’re in the Entertainment Book but they also do 2 course specials during the week(you can’t use your entertainment card in conjunction with these specials) The interior is contemporary and chic with a bit of an Island feel, It’s a beautiful place to visit on a Summer night. I recommend sitting inside because when you’re outside you definitely loose the feel of the restaurant. My tip is the Gnocchi, It’s home-made with fried shallots, cherry tomatoes, rocket pesto, goat cheese, pumpkin and roasted chestnuts. SOGOOD! Definitley worth a visit

Azure is a stand out in restaurants in Mt Hawthorn. The décor is modern, stylish and inviting. Lots of dark wood and brilliant blue walls. This place is quite big once you get inside, with plenty of seating for larger groups. We came in for lunch and the staff seemed happy to see us. The service was quick and attentive. The menu is a great range of modern Australian food. The food came out after only 15 minutes and it was delicious. I had the steak sandwich, which I was expecting to be average, but it was really good. The meat was tender and the bun fresh. If you have a sweet tooth try their 5 senses dessert. It is brilliant.

What ever you do, do NOT come here in a big group. We had to come here for my brothers 40th birthday and there were about 15 of us in total. To tell you the truth you are asking for trouble when you ask 15 people to a dinner. the food was appalling, I ordered the pork belly and it was tough and chewy, the fat was like rubber in some areas and then sloppy in others. The service was incredibly dire, one waitress kept bringing out the wrong beers and then arguing with us that we had asked for that, this happened 3 times! regardless of the fact that we had several witnesses listening to us when we ordered. To top it all off they put the price of the beers we didn’t drink on the bill, this was by far the worst dinner party I had ever been too. I cant even drive past this place without shaking my head, there is no way i will ever come back here.

Azure has modern décor, with dark wood and flashes of bright blue. It makes this café a very calming place to have lunch. It was just before lunch and there were only a couple of tables taken, in what is quite a large café. The staff were friendly. I ordered the pork belly and my friend had a steak sandwich. The service was quick with our food coming out under 15 minutes. The food was delicious, with mouth watering taste and decent sizes. For the price the food is excellent value for money. They do several different deals during the week for dinner. I will be coming back here with a bunch of friends.

This spot makes for some good midweek people watching or even better come at the weekend and you won’t have to car watch too. If you want the best experience here I would recommend coming for lunch as they have good value lunches and your service is more likely to be attentive.

I can safely say this is the best steak sandwhich I’ve ever had. Fresh ciabatta bread, beautiful salad, caramelised onions and perfectly cooked steak. I don’t care what else they have on the menu, this was enough. And for $ 14.50 it felt like theft. I thought I was committing highway robbery. And it doesn’t stop there. Beautiful décor right on the main strip of Mt Hawthorn. You can sit out on the pergola and have a beautiful lunch and people watch. It looked like a pretty fancy restaurant so I thought the bill was going to come out to more than I had in my account but a steak sandwhich and a lemonade came to $ 17.50 all up. It was actually the perfect lunch. And for a place we stumbled across by accident, it wasn’t half bad. Actually, it was really good.
