I’ve an Italian grandmother(whom I call nonna) who makes lots and lots of Italiano tomato sauce. She makes the best in the family. Not only her immediate family, but her extended family. And we all know just how extended an Italian family can get. She bottles the crap outta the sauce and sends it off to all our relatives. She doesn’t make them pay. She doesn’t do it at Christmas time. Cooking is her talent, and, if we really want to get into the amateur psychology of it, she NEEDS to do it to feel like she’s worth something. And no one’s complaining. So, lots of sauce comes outta the Pilla household. And my nonna(whom I sometimes drive around) assures me that this is the only place to get bottles. Whether a statement of ignorance, passion or fact, it’s a testament to this store regardless. If for the former, she’s never been too little satisfied to try shopping elsewhere. And the latter two are self-explanatory. For bottles, you can only go Plasdene Glass-Pak.

Guess what. it’s another family owned business and has been around since 1987 and from early beginning employing only one person, it has grown not only locally but also interstate and internationally. Their office and showroom on Port Rd West Croydon has a large range of items on display to make your choice easier by being able to see it and hold it. If you’ve never heard of them until now, have a look first on their comprehensive website, this will give you a pretty good indication of what they’ve got in stock before making the trip. For anyone who needs an empty jar, bottle, pump, cannister or drum of any shape or size these guys are your shop. Not very well known as they don’t advertise and usually sell direct to a variety of industries, but they also have their doors open for the home produce person who can buy their pickling and storage bottles too. People who make their own beer, bottle olives, pickle produce from home grown produce or store bought for that matter, make their own skin care, etc Plasdene has all of these specific items in stock. Glass, plastic, PVC, lids, pumps, containers, crates, buckets, bins, etc and alot more. I always come here to buy my airless serum pump bottles, cosmetic jars, lip balm wind up tubes, etc it’s a fantastic resource and within the western suburbs. Previously there was never a minimum order amount required to purchase but I believe now there is a $ 50 minimum otherwise there’s a surcharge added, which is pointless to pay, so may aswell add some extra items to cover. Yes I can understand it can be annoying for them to go out the back of their warehouse and have to hand pick and count out the items, as opposed to just getting the forklift and take down a palate or a whole carton. I truly hope that doesn’t increase or policies change as there is basically nowhere else in Adelaide who provides this kind of service to the general public. The prices are excellent and depending on what you need there may be a carton quantity purchase required, but for what you spend individually elsewhere — if you find it — it’s much cheaper just to go with it.
