Argyris Brothers

I’ve only ever been to this delightfully authentic old-​school tailor for dry-​cleaning, which is probably a terrible waste of these dear old gents doubtless collective wealth of talent. I have thoroughly enjoyed my transactions with them: handing over my dry cleaning docket as they are deliberating over some alteration, pins in mouth; seeing them carefully place whatever they are working on under an old metal steam iron-​shaped weight so they can go off and fetch my garment; having them painstakingly sort me my exact change from the coins in their old money tin.
Needless to say it’s cash only, they don’t have a website and their opening hours are sporadic. But I wouldn’t have it any other way…

My leather jacket is in a sorry and sad state. I wanted to know who I should go to in order to repair it. Every person I asked told me to visit the Argyris Brothers. There are countless stories of how excellent they are. Comments like «they saved my jacket from ruin», and stories such as «they managed to alter my suit just a few hours before I needed to wear it» are told with fervour amongst locals.
If you walk past, you’ll generally spot three men in the back room of the store. One is usually sitting at the sewing machine, and the other two are either sitting down with him, or shuffling about doing other bits and pieces. These are the Argyris Brothers.
They’ll do everything from dry cleaning to alterations, to repairs, to making a tailored suit. They’re reasonably priced too. My friend got his leather jacket ‘brought back from the dead’. The whole jacket needed new lining, conditioning, some patching up, some general tender love and care. For $ 300, his leather jacket was rescued from otherwise certain clothing abandonment. My friend was so impressed with the work done, he didn’t even flinch at the price he had to pay. Anyone who loves their leather would probably agree.
If ever I wanted to have the experience of getting a suit tailor made, I would certainly save up my coin and go here. You know that these tailors have been in the business for longer than most other places like it in town. The Argyris Brothers are the genuine article.
