Hoyts Southlands

Good venue that has undercover parking and some great specialty shops in the complex, friendly and courteous staff on my recent visit.

Went to this bean bag cinema this time around, was great. Clean and comfortable. Bean bags are a decent size. (I was in my lonesome so I don’t know how comfortable these would be with two adults). I’ve been before with a child and it’s fine. They are meant to hold two people. I also went to see a movie that had been out a couple of weeks so it wasn’t packed.
A tip, wait til a movie has been out a while so if there’s a few of you, once the movie has started you can spread out (have a bean bag each)

The venue itself is good — the seats are comfortable, the theatres are modern and while they aren’t that spacious there are few quirks, like the bean bag cinema and Xtremescreen showings.
The staff do seem to have a general lack of customer service and always seem quite disengaged, and distinctly lacking a healthy sense of urgency.
In quieter periods they really scale back their staff which can mean a long wait with only a few people in front of you in line. I waited 10 minutes in line with 2 couples in front of me as the wanted coffees and other snacks, and the member of staff seemed to have a general lack of motivation.
I still find the price of candy bar snacks out of this world but sadly that isn’t specific to Hoyt’s.
Southlands is distinctly smaller than somewhere like Carousel or Garden City but they usually have a good variety of movies showing and the venue is usually a lot cleaner.

The staff need to be better trained in customer service.
