I love the green curry, fish cake and spring rolls there! Always a good option for dinner on Chapel!

I love that this place doesn’t have all the ubiquitous Thai carvings, chunky wooden tables and pictures of some far off beach or temple hanging on the wall. I mean, I like that and all, but it always makes me daydream about lying on the beach rather than focusing on the food in front of me. Thai Food To Go shuns that«typical» approach and fills the space with old vintage tables, mis-matched tables and fun hand written signs proclaiming«BETELLEAVES! $ 1.70!». Betel leaves? Oh yes please! It’s not often you find these in «normal» priced Thai restaurant and they’re a great way to get some flavour in to your gob while you wait for the rest of the dishes to start arriving on the table. A little leaf piled with coconut, dried shrimp, lemon, chilli and other magical things… you roll it up and shove it in your mouth and chew furiously while trying not to slap the table in ecstasy. Yeah, I kind of like them. Everything else here is pretty good, with the strifries abundant with veggies, though a little light on the chilli. My tip, if you can handle the heat ask them to give you extra chilli.

This place has has decent Thai food at a decent price. The décor is retro style table and chairs(laminate table tops and faux leather chairs), all mixed and thrown together, like they shopped at a number of 2nd hand places. It’s not an intimate feel, it’s light and bright, and it’s not the typical cheesy Thai restaurant either. Waiters /waitresses wear casual jeans and t-shirts. Can’t go past the pad thai, kow pat kapow(spelling?), and the grilled beef(the healthy option). A big frustration is that they won’t split bills, no matter how much of a regular you are! Worth going to for a casual meal for sure, and there is san churros across the road for desert, or la la land which is a really cool bar also across the road for a drink after dinner.

I find the Thai food here great. I found when I first moved from Sydney to Melbourne the Thai food in Melbourne was a bit hit and miss but this place just makes me think of quality Thai. Everytime I’ve been the food has been fresh and tasty and service impeccable Friendly service, great food. Home delivers when you want to be lazy. Be a tightarse like me and make your own rice though if you home deliver :)

I know I may get chastised for saying this but I’m not a particular fan of Thai food. I think it’s all the spicey flavours and coriander that makes me this way inclined. I detest spicy food. That said, I was taken out for dinner the other night — with 3 other friends who are all Thai lovers — to this sweet little restaurant on Chapel Street called«Thai Food To Go». The menu was abundant with tasty sounding dishes and, carefully, I chose the rice noodles with chicken and veggies. I know, I know, quite tame. My vegetarian friend had a tofu curry and the two boys opted for traditional Pad Thai. All of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals and thankfully, no burnt out mouths ensued. The meals were all reasonably priced(between $ 13-$ 18) and the eclectic décor looked as though the owners had rifled through the various second hand shops on Chapel Street. Overall, a cute, trendy atmosphere with Thai food that I can genuinely say I enjoyed.

A must if you’re looking for Thai food on Chapel St! It’s a really fantastic restaurant to go for dinner and bring a bottle of wine where you can enjoy a fantastic atmosphere amongst their random retro furniture and posters on the walls. I love it. I think this place is full of character and has made a beautifully unique Thai restaurant. It’s like none other I’ve ever been to and isn’t expensive where there waitresses are so friendly and helpful. The menu is great with lots of options on all your favourites. There is a nice buzz as well with it coming into nicer weather and being able to sit outside enjoy good food, good wine, good company on a street where there are countless options to continue having a great night. You really have to check it out if you’re looking for a different place to eat out at!

I just don’t get what the fuss is about. Maybe I’m getting old and grouchy. Plenty of friends have tried to take me to this restaurant claiming it to be amongst the best Thai in Melbourne. The décor is hipsterrific — mismatched retro tables and chairs, not so comfortable, not so inviting. The food is particularly expensive comparable to the casual setting of the place. Nothing I’ve ever ordered here has blown me away, and I fail to see what distinguishes it from other Thai places who would be more than happy to have your business without having to wait in a line. Meh about sums it up for me.

This is good classic Thai food done the way it should be. The food is tasty, the staff friendly and attentive, the layout kitsch and cute. What more could you ask for.

Thai food is thai food is thai food — right? There are two categories of thai food at this sort of price. Good and bad. If this is the case, then we need a new category — great. Thai Food To Go(despite the name) is a super kitsch restaurant on Chapel Street(although I imagine you can get takeaway too). Everything I’ve ever tried here has been super tasty. The massaman and green curries, the coconut rice and the prawn crackers. Inexplicably, despite the quality and the location, it’s also pretty darn cheap too. They don’t take reservations though, so make sure you’re willing to wait or you rock up before 7.30pm. Otherwise, as my brother would say… good luck with that.
