Decided to give this place a go on a lazy ‘I can’t be bothered cooking dinner but pizza is gross’ Tuesday night. The shop itself has been repainted giving it a nice, fresh and clean vibe. All of the seafood in the window was labeled and dated which was a nice change from the old dodgy fish and chip store that used to inhabit this site, the kitchen looked well maintained and I was happy to discover they also double as a small convenience store, something which Albion has been seriously lacking. My partner and I ordered and paid for a pack for two and a large bottle of lemonade. The boy taking the order didn’t write down the lemonade so when our number was called there was an awkward back and forth with what I assume was the owner as he claimed we had not paid. After sorting that out we made the trek home, opened our order and nearly died. The pack for two could easily feed 3 – 4 people. I’m all for free stuff and value for money but holy hell, this was kind of overkill. Everything tasted awesome, not too greasy and the squid was perfectly cooked. It was a shame to waste the food that we didn’t eat. I would really urge the owners to take a look at their portion sizes as I imagine the overheads on this amount of food would be substantial, compared to a more modest but filling serving. I would hate to see the quality of food go down in future to meet overheads, as opposed to just adjusting the portions! I have to say, I haven’t had fish and chips like this is years. If its good old fashioned fish and chips you’re after, at reasonable prices, check out twisted squid!

After years of neglect the Albion Road Fish and Chip shop has risen out the ashes like a Phoenix, delivering our little locale with the fish and chip offering it deserves. As one of Brisbane’s hottest neighbourhoods it’s about time — thank you Twisted Squid! We’ve visited a couple of time now, once just for the squid and the second time for a more full offering of squid and chips. It didn’t disappoint. Both time the squid was juicy and tender. Under new management, and these guys have plenty of experience having run a mobile fish and chippery across Brisbane for many years. Nice to see the little cottage on Albion Road rejuvenated — I’ll have to try the fish next time.
