I’m going to go against the majority and say that I really enjoyed this place. I’m not from the area therefore I can’t be certain, if I could come regularly, that I wouldn’t be as dissatisfied as everyone else seems to be. I have been once before, also for Saturday lunch, and from what I can gather, lunch time may be the best time. It had a really relaxed atmosphere, plenty of seating(although outside seats were taken as it was the perfect day to dine outdoors), and the staff were friendly. We were given a buzzer to collect our order and was delighted when it went off to have the food delivered to our table along with our cutlery. I ordered the seared scallop risotto. My partner had the chilli prawn linguine. Both meals were spot on. The prawns and scallops were cooked to perfection. They may have erred to the side of being overpriced(pasta dishes are so easy and inexpensive to make) but we were both really pleased. Try it for lunch, hopefully I’m right.

The only good thing about this place is it’s location. I know, harsh, but unfortunately true. There’s outside seating for those of you wishing to catch a glimpse of someone famous or like looking at boats docked. Their food however, their food… oh it’s so unseemly. Why does it have to be overpriced crap? We’ve eaten here a few times for work lunches as we sometimes are in the area however you’re still paying high price for junk. This makes me a bit sad and not want to eat here, except since I work in a pack, pack mentality wins and I either starve or shut up and eat. I’ve tried some of the various salads, which weren’t even that tasty or there was a definite lack of meat in them when ordering meaty salads. Overall? Go down a few doors to the take away place. I’m sure you’ll get better food for cheaper prices.

Location is perfect but unfortunately on this Sunday arvo, the staff don’t seem like they could be bothered and the service is proof of that! Food was good and I’d give it another go because we all have ‘one of those days’ in the industry! But 2 stars for today’s visit!

Oh I really tried to like this place, especially with the cool Moe’s Tavern theme going on. The night started well with great company and a fun walk through the park to arrive at the hotel. Out the front, there was a long queue with some dressed in Duff print shirts, so I was getting into the excitement of it all, especially seeing the Duff logo above the entrance with the cartoon vinyl sticker doors. I just couldn’t wait to enter the Simpson’s world. As I entered the bar upstairs, people were taking photos with kegs of Duff beer, sitting around eating their burgers, and enjoying their beer. AWESOME vibe already. Ordered 4 pints of Duff beer which had all the characteristics of a pale lager; crisp, clean, and refreshing. After downing my beer with my friends, we all hoped that there would be a Flaming Moe on the menu. Unfortunately the bartender shook her head and just pointed at the Duff beer, so more beer it was for the night. Okay, this is where the night turned into a stock market crash, we ordered pink donuts with rainbow sprinkles. These were acceptable not stale but were really tiny. Next on the food hit list was what they were marketing as the Krusty Burger but on the menu it was called the all American burger and a porkwich, essentially a pulled pork sandwich. Burger and pulled pork sandwich were meh… the meat and the size of the buns just weren’t in proportion, so there was more bread than filling… Come on McDonald’s get it right when I order a quarter pounder. So another thumbs down. I thought I would give it another chance and ordered Duffalo wings. Beer + Wings = Awesome right? Beer + baked wings = let’s call it a night! The wings just didn’t have the crispy skin I expected and just drizzling BBQ sauce didn’t allow the flavours to penetrate the meat and made it soggy. Oh well, I guess I was expecting fried buffalo wings with the spicy, vinegary, and buttery flavours. Anyway, I had a great time because I was with great company, few Duff beers, cool bar vibe with friendly staff and the Simpson’s theme. However, the food was its downfall but there is always Harry’s Café de Wheels across the road for a tiger pie. This place definitely has potential.

Duff City baby, Duff Duff City baby. Moe’s tavern came to town this month as upstairs WBH was transformed into the Springfield boyz’ favourite watering hole. Well, kinda. Australia’s nanny-state laws being what they are, there was no Simpsons characters or signs in sight because that would mean advertising beer to minors or something. Total meh. Duff beer(made by Lion, I’m informed) is amazing, crisp and bitter and $ 9.30 a pint and now available at Dan Murphy’s. The food — like the American Diner burger(Krusty burger) and Duffalo wings(buffalo wings) were less amazing but hey, we’re here for the beer. Who knew WBH had an upstairs? And it’s pretty rad, be great for functions. There’s even a bison head on the wall. A bison head, you guys.

I went to Woolloomooloo Bay Hotel during their launch event for Duff Beer, so it probably wouldn’t be fair to judge the place on specifics of that event. That said, I picked up my food from the downstairs kitchen in the main part of the pub, so I’m pretty sure it is what they serve on a day to day basis to those unfortunate enough to stumble through the doors. The burger consisted of a cheap frozen patty on a generic soft bun. While the use of a frozen patty doesn’t necessarily equal doom, this was perhaps the worst one I’ve ever had. I put the burger down after 2 bites and had no regrets in doing so. The chips weren’t that bad — after I had poured nearly an entire salt shaker on them. The wings(advertised as «duffalo» for the event, indicating some form of spice/buffalo flavour) came out cold and slimy and –barbecue– of all flavours. By the time they were carelessly slopped on to the plate they were roughly a pile of chicken giblets and skin. A single whole chicken wing was a rare find, and I couldn’t even give the things away to the others at our table. Do I regret going? No. I had to get a couple of snaps of Duff paraphernalia, and when you’re with Unilocalers its always a good time. Would I go again? Only if you’re paying, and I don’t have to eat anything.

I have had, a few good nights down the Woolly Bay hotel. The service is good, the beer selection is quite good with draught Vale Ale on offer, it is good for groups and they do your standard pub tucker good quick service and nice chips. A good venue to watch a rugby match… shout out to ex PM now MP Kevin Rudd for the Rugby World Cup appearances.

Our company recently had a fundraising event here, and it really was the ideal place! It didn’t hurt that it was a beautiful balmy evening and the view of the calm water was perfect, but still it was a great evening, and the staff there were very pleasant. But the location really is a winner, for the upstairs function area anyway. The balcony looks straight onto Finger Wharf but it slightly to the left so you get an ideal combination of harbour and Finger. Downstairs the outdoor area still has a bit of a view, just not as good because you’re at ground level. However, on this occasion, I’m basing my review solely on our function experience, which was great! So if you’re looking for a function area, you may want to check it out!
