Again — I can not rate this place highly enough! SERVICESERVICESERVICE! The staff alone would get me coming back here every time but the food & drinks are also stellar & super delicious. Thank you x1000 to the chef who cooked up a storm for us even though we arrived while he was supposed to be having a break(FYI — between 3pm &3:30pm). You saved me from a terribly hangry episode! Haloumi was divine! The chicken skewers delish & the pumpkin salad completely on point! Accompanied with excellent wine & a ridiculously tasty dessert. 1 affogato & a chocolate mousse creation to silence any critics. Do yourself a favour Brisbane & get all up in this joint!

Breakfast cocktails? I think I’m in love… I’m of the ilk that believe in breakfast drinking, and you know what? There’s just not that many establishments in Brissy that allow me to dabble in my love of a pre-noon debortuous tipple. It seems that I’ve finally found a place after my own heart… Canvas welcomes the breakfast drink with a breakfast cocktail menu which, while being small, was everything you want for your breakfast party. The food menu was tasty and reasonably priced, there were unique items on the menu and some standard fair so you should be able to please a group of picky peeps. If they don’t like the menu you can always push them an extra cocktail. When we visited there weren’t many people which I found quite shocking… Definitely put this place on your breakfast list and get some good honest Bloody Mary into you!

Perhaps two years ago, this place was fabulous. My recent experience left me completely underwhelmed. The customer service was so bad we walked out after one drink each. They don’t deserve our hard-earned money no matter how bangin’ their Tuesday deal is. Yeah, the rude manager couldn’t stop using that word — bangin. It’s silly that an establishment with so many fine competitors wouldn’t consider that good customer service goes a long way. Definitely not returning

I’m a sucker for a good cocktail and Canvas has the goods. Their cocktail list is broad and innovative and all nine of my drinking companions ordered something different. What was delivered to the table was a vast array of cocktails presented in different glassware and garnished beautifully. Presentation wise the cocktails in the Tiki mugs and coconut shells were the most impressive, while taste wise the Harlan’s Spanish Breakfast demonstrated the artistry of the staff here. My own cocktail, The Vaquez, was a boozy affair of 23 year old rum, Amaro Averna, and maraschino liquor served over a coconut water iceblock which, as it melted, added different flavours to the drink. Genius.

This is a cute little cocktail bar with a delightfully hipster outdoor courtyard — complete with fairy lights, recycled signage and street art scrawled on adjoining walls. They have a decent list of cocktail concoctions here, or you can do as I did and ask for a ‘blank canvas’ to get your own creation to suit your taste. My «nothing bitter/creamy and partial to dark rum» brief was met with a fun tiki cup of rum and apple deliciousness. A nice spot for groups to enjoy the weather, or there is indoor seating if Brisbane is being less favourable than usual.

With the recent decision made by Crosstown not to open for breakfast anymore, a gaping hole was left in my life until I stumbled up the Gabba strip early one Saturday morning to find people sitting in front of one of my favorite cocktail bars. What is this I exclaimed? Cocktails for breakfast? One of the lovely waitresses spotted my puzzlement and kindly informed me that they were now in fact open for breakfast!!! I grabbed myself a pew, went about ordering my morning feed, unsure of what to expect. Whilst there is nothing to adventurous on the menu, a good hearty breakfast is what you’ll get here at a reasonable price. The wait staff were more than enthusiastic and the chef/owner came out after the meal and enquired about how it was. Canvas, thankyou again for a great breakfast and coffee, you’ll be seeing plenty more of my ugly mug early in the mornings !!!

Canvas has just won«Best Cocktail List» in the recent Bartender Magazine awards. And so they should, their cocktail list and what it produces are wonderfully wonderful. I agree with all of those who came before me on this shining list of reviews. Correct, Correct and Correct — a very cool place. I have only one negative I’d like to add, and perhaps this goes for most cocktail establishments — $ 18 is far too much to pay for a splash of alcohol in a glass(no matter how expertly made) I guess it’s just«the going price» but wonder what the profit margin is on cocktails? I’ll be back, the cocktails are wonderful — I just need to find me a sugar daddy to shout me them! Over and over…

Friend and I headed to this bar on a Saturday night for a few cocktails for my birthday ended up sitting at the bar with three of the best bartenders I have ever come across their knowledge of drinks and the ingredients in those drinks is amazing from explaining the difference between mezcal and tequila to the stories about the origins of old navy rum, these guys know their stuff. so if you want to have a drink made by people who are passionate about good drinks this is the place for you. Highlight was defiantly the Cumberland bay and the salumi board

Really nice bar with some talented bartenders. Great list of cocktails. You could easily spend your life savings though so maybe sip on a tall glass cocktail while you study the menu for inspiration at home… Mmmm

The first thing I do when I go to a cocktail bar is skim their list for all the gin cocktails. I could tell I was My Kind Of Place when I was keen to sample each one I saw, with ingredients like mandarin bitters and riesling & wormwood syrup. Okay, so those two are both from the one drink that I ordered — the Mandarin & Saffron Crusta. Hello, sailor, you are delicious. Having said that, I hope I never find a solid favourite drink at Canvas, because their cocktail list is something I honestly want to work my way through. The drinks are clearly put together with a lot of care and passion — let’s face it, nobody’s going to infuse Lillet with peach and thyme«just because». The staff are friendly and patient, and from most spots in the venue, only a quick wink away. Canvas is a small, warm space with plenty of cosy seating. I only had time for a pre-dinner drink at Canvas, but I will definitely be back. Next time, I’ll make sure I have a few hours to spare, and enough change for a cab fare home.

Of course this swanky cocktail bar full of swagger would find it’s home in the Woolloongabba Logan Road precinct that is well and truly reclaiming itself as one of the coolest places in Brisbane. And you can see why. Walk into Canvas and you almost instantly forget your are in Brisbane. You could be in Melbourne or a European speak easy when you’re at Canvas. Friends and I visited Canvas on a lazy Sunday afternoon and after settling in to our booth we made firm friends with our bartender for the day, Andrew. Our tapas plates(don’t deny yourself the Brie. It is worth every calorie!) were exceptional. My firm favourite was the meat balls. We felt like queens with the world out our feet and were blown away by the affordability of our hours spent wiling away the afternoon($ 87). Canvas have a Sunday afternoon cocktails and Jazz program that I for one cannot wait to check out. This is a place I could easily see myself becoming a local at.

I spent a leisurely afternoon eating cheese and drinking cider at Canvas yesterday, and it was excellent. The décor was simple but charming, with lots of wood and padded booths. The service may not have been the fastest, but was perfect for the lazy afternoon we were having and the waiter/bar tender was very knowledgeable about the menu and happy to chat cheese with us. The menu itself is beautifully illustrated and the cocktail I tried was very, very tasty. Best of all was the prices — the four of us spent several hours eating, drinking and talking and the bill only reached $ 87.

Canvas is really edgy. It’s a little bit fun; it has exactly the right amount of modern vibes tempered with the historical elements we’ve come to know and love in Woolloongabba. And if there’s anything I love more than a wicked cocktail menu, it’s a cocktail menu served best with tapas. Tapas, tapas, tapas. At Canvas, tapas should be your first choice in dining options. It’s so expensive and unless I have a lot of money to blow, I probably won’t go back too often, but the tapas are truly extraordinary. They bring out your choice of meats and cheese platters, and seriously, the most delectable bread that of course goes perfectly with their meat and cheese selections. I love the choice in their tapas, everything sounds European. And the vintage cheddar is an amazing choice. Go with friends to split the bill because you don’t want to miss out on their tapas, seriously.

Someone did something right when they created this little cul-de-sac of European quaintness in Brisbane’s Wooloongabba. How did it happen? It’s as if the gods of good taste got together and said, «We’re going to create a street with a wonderful eatery called Crosstown, a unique and classy bar called Canvas and just to be fun, we’re going to adorn the street lights with a variety of eclectic and creative lamp shades.» Imagine if more of Brisbane had this kind of individual charm. I recently had a lovely night out in this nook of Wooloongabba, starting with drinks at Canvas and followed by a meal at Crosstown(see my review). There’s a great vibe at Canvas and a crowd that I genuinely feel to be atypical of Brisbane. It’s hard to explain, but I’ll try: Canvas is classy, but unpretentious; modest, but assertive; comfortable, but upbeat. It strikes a nice balance between your chilled out lounge bar and the bar you go to when beginning a big night. The lighting is right, as is the layout. My one negative comment would be of the seating we were allocated as a group of 5. Seated next to the bar on two low couches with a coffee table in between, we found it difficult to talk without constantly leaning across the table. If you going in a group, aim for a table by the window where you can be more clustered. There’s plenty to look at in Canvas, décor-wise, so you want a good seat with plenty of visibility. My thinking is that if we all support Canvas they’ll open more bars like it, then more streets like this little cul-de-sac and encourage more creative design like that of those gorgeous lamp shades.

Canvas. If you haven’t heard of it — prepare to be blown away. Over the past couple of years it has been open, it has won a slew of awards — from ‘New Bar of the Year’ in the Australian Bar Awards, to the ‘Best Bar’ in the Courier Mail. But why? Is it the upturned ship’s hull which acts as a ceiling, the flowing, mellow artwork adorning the walls, or the deep leather couches which create the mood of the place? Better yet, it is the incredible bar staff, who are walking mixology-encyclopaedias, who can literally recite any piece of information pertaining to even the most bizarre liquor. What do they do with this expanse of knowledge? Create sensational cocktails — of course! Don’t believe me? Then try a ‘Vasquez’ — Ron Zacapa 23y. o, Maraschino liqueur and Amaro Averna, served short over a coconut-infused ice sphere. The longer it takes you to drink it — the more flavoursome your drink will become. These guys only use top-shelf, premium products — so don’t expect to find a bottle of Bundy around these traps. Got a hankering for a chilled martini? It can’t get any cooler than being infused with liquid nitrogen. Or just after a simple G&T? The bar staff will chisel you off a hunk of ice, ensuring that your drink will retain its true flavour and be dilution-free. Not a cocktail aficionado? There is an extensive wine list and selection of craft beers. Cheese and tapas boards are available, and be sure to grab a mate and come on a Tuesday to dig into a tapas board teamed with a margarita($ 40). Sunday is definitely the best time to pop in — live jazz, soul and flamenco happen every week — be sure to book ahead and it’s fast becoming a popular watering hole!
