This review is a little different… its not so much about the hotel, but about the integrity of the management, staff and the hotel help in this great hotel! If I could give this hotel a million stars rating I would. 5 stars is not enough. I owe a great deal to the management of the very best hotel that has ever graced the face of the earth— and i tell you why. This happened many years ago, but i was supposed to visit the Falls that morning. I took off for the bus station, I was looking down on my map, the light turns green and in most places, it means the pedestrian has the right of way when you are walking – nope. A small Toyota truck turning right, hits me while i was in the cross walk— my tibia and fibula of my left ankle is broken. I’m in shock. I hop on this kid’s Toyota flat bed and he takes me to the hospital. While various doctors were examining my leg and suggested surgery, in comes two other gentlemen. They were not doctors; they were the managers from the Hotel San Rafael to see what they could do. Well, since the hospital did not want to be responsible for any of my valuables, I had to surrender ALL of my belongings to these two strangers from the hotel – my passport, my wallets, my keys.all. I did not know if i should have been nervous about the surgery, my belongings in the possession of strangers, how to get back to the US or what. Fast forward after about 3 or 4 days in the hospital. Hotel San Rafael sends their help/gardener to pick me up from the hospital. Since the hospital did not have any crutches, the hotel help/gardener lends me $R80 or about $US80 and we picked up my crutches. He drives me back to the Hotel, and all my stuff in my room and all my stuff surrendered to the two hotel managers were left un-touched. NOONETOUCHEDMYTHINGS. They let me stay at the hotel for another few more days, help me hobble down stairs for great food at the restaurant and helped the best they could until I could find a way back from Foz Iguazzu to Sao Paolo to Dallas to San Jose USA. Long story short – 99% of the people on this earth will not do you harm. Hotel San Rafael and staff was my temporary home and family while I was in this very dire predicament. The gardener did not have to lend me $ 80 for my crutches, the managers did not have to visit me in the hospital, the hotel did not have seal my room until i returned, they did not have to phone Varig for air line help — they did not have to do anything, but they all did. Thank you, forever. May your hotel business continue to thrive after all these years! Muito obrigado!
