Where to start on how utterly disgusting, rude, and awful this hotel is! I urge anyone with taste and class to go elsewhere. DONOTCOMEHEREPLEASE. Upon check in the staff was unfriendly and rude. The hallways were not air conditioned. The room was extremely small and disgusting not clean/old. The caret was dirty in the halls it looked like a shelter. This hotel was so bad we needed to check out after an hour. They made us even pay a night when we didn’t stay there. The reflection didn’t even care we were unhappy. Splurge an extra $ 200 and go to a nice 5 star hotel.

Mar Ipanema is very nice. Everyone at the lobby is friendly and helpful, and there was always tea or water infused with tropical fruits available by the elevators. The rooms were clean and spacious with a mini fridge, TV, safe and nice showers. The rooms weren’t pricey and I found a coupon online that gave me a 40 dollar discount. It made everything even more worth it. The cab from the Santos Dumont airport to Mar Ipanema hotel was 36 Reais, and they charged 2 Reais per suitcase. We used the Rio Bikes from Itau everywhere else we went. And we also got caught in the rain a lot. Still, had a lovely time. Breakfast was fresh and delicious. Served at the restaurant next door, making it even better.

Great location and very spacious, clean rooms. Easy to control, efficient AC, and plenty of channels on TV.(The Walking Dead in Portuguese? Why not?) I don’t know if it is the same everywhere — but if the country’s drinking water is unsafe to drink, I feel that bottled water — at least 1 – 2 bottles per person– should be free of charge. This is not the case. There are very small bottles(4oz) for $ 3.50 Brazilian currency — and that’s pretty lousy. Again, it’s my first day in the country so maybe that’s the case everywhere — but I think it’s pretty lousy. I shouldn’t be dehydrated and my bank account shouldn’t suffer because of your country’s water quality. Ok– that’s my biggest issue. The pictures speak for themselves :)

Amazing location!!! Stayed for 4 nights and had the best time! Modern and comfy, the Mar Ipanema has the coolest rooftop for afternoon drinks with amazing views! Free wifi, delicious breakfast, and very nice personnel. Hotel provides free beach equipment upon request(beach towels, chairs and sun umbrellas). I would totally recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Rio.

A little background. We made reservations through FIFA because we were in Rio for the World Cup. Not sure how much the hotel actually gets, but we paid more than $ 600USD per night. We definitely did not get our money’s worth. The rooms are small, the towels are very cheap quality and although the bathrooms are somewhat renovated, there were stains around the toilet. I know the prices for all hotels probably sky rocketed for the World Cup, but it was way too expensive for what we got. Location is good however. Very close to the beach and lots of juice bars and restaurants within walking distance.

A localização é invejável.

Located a mere 2 – 3 blocks from the sand, Mar Ipanema is a real winner whether you’re traveling for leisure, business, or both! Each morning, I’d wake up and head to the adjacent restaurant(which appears to be it’s own free-standing beer-bar establishment) for a plate of complimentary breakfast(included in my room rate). The buffet was more than generous and offered a sampling of hot and cold items — plenty of fruit, fresh juice and eggs here! After a quick bite, I’d make my way to the beach for a dose of sunshine and ocean breeze. As for the room, it was very comfortable and with decent wi-fi. The signal from the room proved strong enough to manage a few FaceTime calls to family back in the US. The bed was also quite comfortable and the bathroom(while I couldn’t soak in a spacious tub) ticked all the necessary boxes. The hotel staff was very kind and accommodating and the receptionists spoke English. One of the best parts about the hotel is the location. You can walk to everything(plenty of shops, restaurants and bars in the vicinity). It’s also very safe, so no worries there. I’d readily stay here again on a future visit to Rio!

It’s often tough to find a modern, safe, well-situated, independent hotel for less than $ 300/night in Rio or São Paulo. I rolled the dice when I booked Mar Ipanema and I’m happy to report that it turned out to be quite a charmer. The hotel’s right on Rua Visconde De Pirajá which is a major shopping street with plenty of juice bars, restaurants, clothing boutiques and shoe shops as soon as you step outside. Ipanema beach is just two blocks away. Location-wise, the hotel’s pretty unbeatable if you want to be in the Zona Sul area of Rio. Rooms are clean and sparse. I found mine quite comfortable and quiet(ask for a room that faces the back of the hotel if you’re a light sleeper). When I departed for a run or breakfast it was cleaned promptly(which I love). Breakfast is included in the room rate and is served buffet style downstairs in the pub/restaurant, Armazém Devassa. Highlights include fresh watermelon juice and scrambled eggs that are not made from powder(hey, it’s the little things). Wifi is very spotty(but if you travel to Brazil often for work, you’re used to this) at the Mar Ipanema. There’s no gym, but why not take a walk or run along the beach? The staff speaks English and is very accommodating. Overall, I’d call Mar Ipanema pretty good value for Brazil(where I generally think hotels are overpriced relative to their amenities) and I’d stay here again gladly.
