This small delicatessen and minimarket is a corner stone of the Cerro Navia barrio. Fiambrerias del Rio has locations all over town, but this is their headquarters where they offer some of the best cheese and meats around. I first found out about them from my «Chilean mom» because every time we would have«once» she served some of the best quality cheese and butter I had tasted in Chile. Her cheeses were always flavorful and the texture was perfect. It wasn’t however, until I tried a cheese that was delicately sharp, with a strong flavor and excellent velvety texture that I had to ask. From that moment on, I refer to moments in my life as B. R and A. R(Before Rio and After Rio). What was the cheese I tasted? It is a chanco mantecoso cheese that is actually named after the owner, Rodrigo del Rio. Go now, leave your house and get to your nearest Fiambreria del Rio and buy yourself some of this creamy deliciousness. Tips: They close at 1:30pm and reopen at 4pm. The best times to come are either when they first open(in the morning or at 4pm sharp) However, if you can’t make those times, I recommend coming at 12pm(no later) as this is when there is the least amount of people. Always ask the guys behind the counter what they recommend. They will give you a ton of delicious cheeses to try until you find the one you want.
