I have been to this restaurant a number of times over the years and on this latest trip to Copenhagen, we were left a bit disappointed. The atmosphere is rustic Danish and the staff very friendly, but the food really just missed the mark. Most of the food was overcooked, far too salty and drowning is sauce. Maybe an off night?

Yes, Peder Oxe is geared towards tourists, and you are likely to hear more Norwegian and Swedish than Danish there. However, the Danish smørrebrød(open sandwiches) are very good, and the interiors are rustic and charming. I had lunch with friends on a Saturday, and had the good fortune to come a bit early for lunch — the place gets very busy. Service is also quite slow during busy hours(we were there 2 hours 15 mins, which was partly because each sandwich course took so long to arrive). I had three sandwiches — this will set you back 150DKK, which is admittedly quite steep. My sandwiches were the house speciality pickled herring(so good!), meatballs(frikadeller in Danish), and fried fish. The herring was definitely the star, and I would gladly have eaten three of these. The fact that we were surrounded by other Norwegians aside, our meal at Peder Oxe fulfilled my need for a real Danish lunch.

On our first night in Copenhagen we went for a walk in the City Centre and happened upon Peder Oxe. It is a very quaint restaurant with excellent staff and a delicious menu. We had the Wild Duck which was very tender and flavorful. The beef Filet was prepared perfectly. There is a little button on the light over your table that you can turn on a call light and a server will come straight to your table. Everything was very fresh and tasty, definitely a place to visit when in Copenhagen.

This was a wonderful dining experience. Service staff were outstanding in every way. The facilities seemed full of old world charm and the clever ordering system(turn on a light over your table) results in incredibly speedy service. If the Irish coffee service is available after dinner, give it a try as it is a fun tableside experience.

Peder Oxe is one of my favorite Danish restaurants in Copenhagen. It is situated in a beautiful square. The restaurant has been around and I have eaten there four times, each time the food was very consistent(from venison to fish) and the service was good. The salad bar is reasonably stocked with your basic variety of legumes and condiments. If you have a small party, ask to the small private room to the left of the entrance… very cozy and keep out the noise since it can get loud. By the way, you catch the server’s attention by turning on the overhanging light. The price is reasonable.

Really nice food and above the standard service versus Danish levels. We were 12 people booking late but they managed to get us a great spot. Food was good, not world class but very high quality. The waiters were very attentive and friendly. I’ll go here again!

I have easily given the restaurant a 5 for the main course items but the service and the deserts were poor. The service was very respo when we left. nsive on several occasions but we sat for two 20 minute periods waiting to give the desert order and another time waiting for the check. The main course beef steak was very good and the boar was also done well except that there was too much fat. The recommended pear desert was terrible. The pear was poached too long so it was like eating a pear version of applesauce. The worse service was given by the front desk that spent 5 minutes looking for an available table for two. We got one in the back of the restaurant that was totally absent of people until we had completed our meal. There were plenty of tables for 2 available and were still available

Located on a charming square, Peder Oxe is a great choice for a fine meal in Copenhagen. We went for lunch on a beautiful Sunday. Surprisingly, this square was almost deserted when only a block away, the pedestrian mall was packed, so this was a nice respite from all of that drama! We sat outside and the server came over with a choice of a menu, or a sheet(reminded me of the kind of sheet you order sushi from) where you could order a range of small open faced sandwiches. I decided to go with the luncheon special of the day which was a large piece of fish served with potatoes. I also ordered a glass of the house wine and imagine my surprise when the server put the entire bottle down in front of me. She noticed my look of surprise and then turned the bottle around to show me the markings on the side of the bottle that indicate how much you have drank. You then pay accordingly. Clever for house wine! The food was quite good, the service was excellent and upon glancing in– the interior of this old 1700’s building was charming. And if you use the restrooms– they are down in the cellar which really give you a flavor of old old this building is! A wonderful choice while in Copenhagen!

Very nice restaurant in the center of kopenhagen. Prices are ok for the city. We have been there twice. I can recommend the lunch smørrebrød.

This is a classic, old school Danish restaurant that gives you a great flavor for Danish dining in a 1700’s building. Mikkel, one of the managers — or perhaps THE manager — is awesome. He has been there for at least 20 years, and is always ready to great you with a smile. The service is actually pretty good, and the food is very traditional. I would highly recommend trying to eat here. In the winter, it is very cozy inside. In the summer, you can sit outside on the square. They provide blankets if it gets a little chilly. If you are out at night on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday, be sure to drop into the Vin Keller below the restaurant. There bar can get packed, but it is a really vibrant scene with loud music, fun bartenders and attractive patrons. It was an institution when Michael Lindgreen ran the joint, but it is still an traditional favorite.

This place is more about wine, cocktails and food than my old chum beer. Then again it has a very nice underground wine cellar look to it and they do a few beers, so you can enjoy a trappe dubbell if out with friends who want to eat or lean towards the inferior beverages.

Alles in allem gut.

Was soll ich sagen. Zauberhaft!
