Nørrebrogade is the main street in the old working class neighbourhood Nørrebro. Like most old working class neighbourhoods has Nørrebrogade undergone a gentrification the last 20 years. Fortunately the neighbourhood fights back and hipsters have not overtaken Nørrebro. Nørrebrogade is a very vibrant example. Because of Nørrebro’s many social housing estates the neighbourhood is still one of the areas in Denmark with the lowest income. Nørrebrogade still is a shopping street, where you can do most of your shopping without getting riped. The part of the street closest to Indre By(the central part of Copenhagen) is the hipster area. And the other end is dominated by emigrant shops. Parts of Nørrebrogade have been turned into bikes and public transportation only, and a lot of the lane is devoted to bikes. It is a joy to ride your bike here. At the same time a large part of the street next to Assistens Kirkegård was turned into pavemen, and here you can sit in the sun enjoying a meal or a beverage.
