Encountered a beer here that was so good I abandoned my usual process of trying as many beers as possible and just stuck with it for the whole evening. If you know me then you know that is praise indeed! It was called Dryhop by Hornbeer. We were hungry and while the pub doesn’t do food you can bring in your own. There were various recommendations for the pizza place virtually on the opposite corner(King Tut Pizzeria) so we decided to go for it even though, as others have noted, it doesn’t look like the kind of place from which to expect too much. Stand or sit corrected though because it was actually really rather good and worth a 4 star rating all of its own(if I can figure out what I had). We each wolfed down our selections. What else? Well the music was awesome and they actually put out jugs of water that you can help yourself to, which is an uncommon practice in Copenhagen where some places will charge you for tap water.

Yet another nice beer bar to change my mind about hanging out in Centrum. The fact that it is in a quiet neighborhood was nice and you even get a nice view of the yellow houses(Nyboder) if you’re sitting by those windows. They have a good range of local and domestic beers on tap, as well as one cider the night we were there, and lots of bottles. The bartender was nice and offered us tastes before buying. I wouldn’t really call it a dive bar, it looks more like an English pub but with nicer chairs, fewer booths, and better music. It was nearly empty when we arrived around 8 but quickly started filling up with both English-speakers and Danes. This is the perfect place to go to if you wanted to drink at Charlie’s bar but it was full. Actually I think I’ll just skip that step and come directly to the Black Swan next time.

I might have a new favourite bar in town apart from the good old Taphouse. It would have been a five-star if it weren’t for the location is a bit further down Borgergade. Of course beer enthusiasts would do everything for the real thing, but still — I would like to hang out in a bar that it’s not far into some quiet residential area if I could. But then again, Black Swan might be worth the walk all the way from Kongens Nytorv or Nørreport perhaps. They got some pretty interesting bottled beer and really nice(imagine Borat-style NICE with both thumbs up!) beer on tap. Great music as well and plenty of seats, unlike somewhat too popular and super-hype bar somewhere on Vesterbro *whistling quietly* The bartender was friendly and let me have the taste(one perk of Taphouse that I would never forget!) of the stout I was about to order that night(mad yeast rocks, btw!) and there were lots of English-speaking people here so I felt right at home.

This place is a gem! It’s pleasant to go to a spot where they are very comfortable and good at unpretentious and knowledgable service. A good solid selection of European beers with great ambiance and a cool vibe.

Absolutely the best place in town for a beer. Staff is friendly, customers are friendly, their draft and whisky selections are superb! A must visit place in Copenhagen.

Good place although inevitably crowded on a Friday night. Quick and efficient service. Two thoughts — the beer menu seemed tilted towards the more alcoholic end of the scale(a few more ales around 5% or so would be welcome). And toilet smells made their way around the bar(although they were not as bad as those to be found at Charlie’s). Otherwise, great!

Oh why have I waited so long to visit Black Swan?! It’s a great beer place. Cozy and modern without any of the clichéd rustic-ness that sometimes plagues beer bars. Very good tap selection with a nice range of hoppy(IPA) and non-hoppy(lager, wheat, stout) options. Plenty of bottle selection as well! And a range of rum and whiskey. It is a very English bar(as in lots of English speakers), so you decide if that’s something you like or not. Personally, I’m perfectly happy drinking in an English dominant bar in Denmark, but if you’re looking for more Danish-ness, then maybe this is not the beer bar for you. Compared to other beer bars in town(Ølbaren, Charlie’s, Mikkeller…), the seats are easier to come by and you’ll likely even get a spot at the bar. It’s very nice not to have to jostle for space.

Just outside the main city centre — on the corner of Fredericiagade, this bar for the beer snob attracts an older than youth crowd. The beer is somewhat fancier, the atmosphere less showy and the quality of the beer is very important. A smaller bar, with the hygge. The beer seems to usually(having only been there a handful of times) consist of a few Danish microbreweries and some foreign beer on tap, with a wider variety of ales, lagers and ciders in bottles. The emphasis on quality of selection rather than quantity.(No carlsberg, no Tuborg). Excellent whisky selection, good spirits, limited for wine. There are a series of events throughout the week, but the beer and atmosphere will be the main attractions. Suitable for a small group 25yo+ for an evening out. Less suitable for a large group of students, looking a have something to eat, get drunk as cheap as possible and pull a young girl.
