We stayed in the apartment building right next door, and had a couple quick drinks and bites to eat here. Maybe having blankets outside is the norm in Copenhagen, but it was a completely alien concept to this American. I don’t understand why places back home aren’t doing this as it made eating outside even while it was quiet cold pleasurable. The sandwiches were huge, and the large beers were comically over-sized. Honestly, this place serves the best Chai I’ve ever had in my life. I’d be a regular if I lived in the area.

Glad I didn’t check reviews before picking. A lot of reviews seem to be dated and it looks like they turned over a new leaf. Arrived for a 1130 late breakfast and chose the brunch platters. On vegetarian one regular. My wife commented that oh I will have the pancakes and I pointed out it is not an or list it is an and list. quark, eggs, bacon, pancakes, sausage, chorizo, panceta fruit salad, jam, coffee and juice. Not overwhelming just a taste of everything for a nice balance. Food came out super fast and server was very friendly. Great corner to eat at.

I’m torn on this review because on the one hand it’s a nice location and your coffee comes with a little chocolate(and I can always be bribed with chocolates), but on the other hand they don’t have soy milk which is very very bad for my lactose intolerant tummy. So I can only give 3 stars. Maybe you would say it’s unfair to review it poorly because I’m not evolved to drink milk as an adult, I’d say it’s about customer service and providing a good product and a good experience.

The café was quite busy when we arrived, but we managed to get a table for 6. We ordered food and drinks, and after having waited for a bit longer than half an hour our drinks finally arrived. However, the white wine we ordered were warm! not just chilled but it the temp was way warmer than the temp you serve red wine. The wine was in a bucket with water and a little ice which didn’t really help much. After having waited an other 45 min, our food finally arrived, except for 1 dish(burger). i ordered clams, and it was probably one of the worst meals that I have had for a really long time. I reckon they had been sitting out for quite a while as they were dry and rather cold, and there were no sauce/liquid on the plate there were served in. When the rest of us had finished our meal, we were still waiting for the last persons burger, despite the fact that they apologized, and informed that the would make it straight away. it does not take more than 30 min to make a burger!!! Most customers were complaining as their food was not well prepared or they had been waiting for a very long time, so we were far from the only ones who were not happy with our dining experience!

When I climbed out of the busy Christianhavn metro station early in the morning… OK, it was 11AM but early by vacation standards, right… I was not motivated enough to look at my Lonely Planet app to find a place to eat. I stumbled upon Café Oven Vande because it has a prominent location overlooking Christianhavns Kanal. It was bit too nippy to take advantage of their outdoor seating(see photo), so I sidled into what looked like their bar area hoping they were still serving breakfast. Luckily they still had leftovers from their brunch buffet, or at least that’s what I assumed when I saw my plate. For 79DKK(Danish krone), or about $ 14, I got quite a pile of food on my plate — three scrambled eggs, three strips of crispy bacon, three interconnected links, and a side salad(see photo). I’m sure it was a Danish truck driver’s delight, but there was a slightly congealed taste that didn’t thrill me much. The variety bread basket and large cappuccino(see photo), however, were aces and helped perk me up for my journey into nearby hippie-dippy Christiania. Café Oven Vande doesn’t have the classic stylings of Café Wilder across the canal, but if you need something to fill you up until your mid-afternoon smørrebrød, this fits the bill for a price that isn’t too painful for Copenhagen. FOOD — 3 stars… plentiful but you probably should come earlier than 11:30AM if you want to get the buffet AMBIANCE — 3.5 stars… leisurely location off the canal SERVICE — 3 stars… efficient but not overly friendly TOTAL — 3 stars… just between you and me, I’d go back to Café Wilder before Café Oven Vande
