The appetizer of eel was minuscule and mostly just tasted sour from the tomatoes and vinegrette. The chicken salad was quite boring however it was the dessert of risalamande which was the biggest disappointment. It was completely tasteless. The rest of my table cancelled their dessert order upon tasting mine. I’ve dined at marchal about 4 – 5 times now and the quality of the food has unfortunately declined. Don’t expect too much.

11 Nov 2015 Marchal Restaurant L’Angleterre Hotel Great location Service was good and friendly Sat by the window where there are no carpets so it’s kind of noisy. Chose the ala carte small plates. Presentation was very nice Overall food was nice but wasn’t piping hot(so it cools fast) except for the beef. Not a must dine place. Slightly warm bread Lovely butter Confit egg yolk with foam mushroom soup, kohlrabi and ground elder oil — nice Fried turbot with lardo, beach horseradish and unripe gooseberries — nice Beef tenderloin with burrata, corn, smoked corn bullion and licorice — lovely sauce — beef was medium as requested and hot

Great place the location can’t be better in the heart of Copenhagen if you are lucky and get a seat by the window you get to see everyone walking by from the shopping stores. They have home made sour dough bread very good and served warm with lovely butter and black salt I tried their 2 course menu starting with egg Benedict with cauliflower and a lovely sauce and a chicken breast main dish was delicious with a special sauce as well the service was remarkable it is very seldom you get this service in Copenhagen they even came to top up our water glasses every time they needed it without being overwhelming the dessert was amazing the best part white chocolate macarons with caramel delicious and a really good Cool mint tea that came with a delicious piece of chocolate. The place is lovely and quite perfect for a business lunch or taking your parents when they are visiting not really a place to visit if you want to be noisy. Price wise it is very decent considering how good is the food the service and the location the 2 dish menu was 295kr per person

My husband and I had a wonderful dinner here at Marchal. He started with the Beef Tartar and I started with the first course of my Lobster dish, which was a unique of lobster bisque. The mixture of flavors for both were amazing! For our main course, hubby had the Fried Pigeon(much tastier than it sounds! Quite good actually!) and I had the Lobster tail. Both were excellent and I would recommend them! No disappointments for dessert… my husband had the French Toast with Vanilla Ice Cream and I had the Nordic Cheeses with homemade Rye Bread. Delish! Very charming atmosphere too!

Yesterday was my second time at Marchal. First visit was last summer, where Ronny Emborg was the head chef, so this time it would be interesting if the standard would be the same after Ronny had left. Apparently we were quite lucky to get a last minut table, because the restaurant was fully booked — the hotel was celebrating 260 years anniversary, with visit from the crown prinse couple, but hopefully the kitchens are separated, so Marchal did not suffer from this extravagant visit. Well either way, I had two dishes and a shared lobster dish. I was a little sceptic that it would be too much — the lobster has a distinct taste, which in some cases can be a little over the edge in my opinion. I started out with the lumpfish roe — we are in the end of the season, so I had to have it, and it was very good. A good seasoning of the dish to get the very most from the lumpfish roe. Next dish was the tartar, which I also had at my last visit, where I was quite blown. Last time it almost entered my top three of tartars in Copenhagen(for those wondering my top three are Pastis, Manfreds, Formel B, each has different flavours). Unfortunately this time, the tartar itself was good and very tasty, but the dish was missing a more crunshy element than just small potato chips, since the meat was very creamy. Then to the lobster serving. Marchal posted a picture the other day on Facebook with the first serving, and it was absolutely beautiful, so I had to have it. It was based on the lobster claw meat, which is the best part of the lobster, and the flavours were good. It came with a lobster bisque/soup, which was a little too powerful for my taste, also the vanilla did not mix perfectly in the soup, so it was very subtle. The other lobster serving was the tail, and it was quite nice. Served with a safran sauce and some crispy and sour elements. A good dish. We finished off with a selection of cheeses, which were nice. I think that the restaurant might have suffered a little from the loss of a top chef, but hopefully it can come back strong by stepping up some of the dishes.

This review was due for a long time. As of this writing Ronny Emborg has taken up a position in NYC as the successor to Matthew Lightner of Atera. I had followed his cooking from AOC and I suppose Atera maybe next. However a long leisurely lunch at Marchal when he was there was superb. Obviously he’s talented and Michelin awarded him a star while he was here. Our meal went as follows: –Fresh raw oysters –White asparagus, 1st of the spring –Lumpfish roe with potato purée, cress, crispy chicken skin and whey sauce –Beef tartarwith green sorrel, ramson, horseradish and potato chips with leek ash –Pork cheeks with beetroot, vinegar purée, truffle and veal glacé –Green salad with cucumber, chicken and crisp chicken skin –Nordic cheeses served with grilled rye bread Everything was delicious. Chef Emborg came out to say hi to the diners and also did some table side service. He also signed books for some of his fans. I wish him the best at Atera and hopefully will catch him there soon

The food is delicious with a romantic twist, having many items on the menu that are to share for two. The presentation is special. The service is professional, yet friendly. The servers are incredibly knowledgeable and experienced of food and wine. This establishment provides a comfortable atmosphere where food is delicious.

Dinner at Marchal drove me to write my first review. In short: Good food, not awesome. Terrible service! My wife and I dined at this highly-rated establishment. Well known chef at a high-end hotel in the middle of Copenhagen. So why the horrible service score? * Upon arrival, we were made to stand in the middle of the restaurant while the staff argued about which table is ours * They never offered to take our coats * Our table was in a hallway, just outside the private dining area. Noise levels were terrible and we could hardly hear each other. * In attempting to create a number of courses for our dinner, the staff had very little flexibility(they don’t offer a tasting menu, be careful). * Server did apologize for the mess in the end. Food was good: * Lobster tow ways was fun. * Dessert was good too.
