Paludan is a nice place to go for brunch/lunch if you’re in the center of the city. The café also doubles as a bookstore so it’s a great atmosphere for relaxing with a meal or some coffee. It is usually pretty crowded so you may have to wait for a table, especially if you are more than 1 – 2 people. The line to order(there is no table service) can also be quite long and it takes a while for your food to be delivered, so be prepared. I usually order food soon after I arrive since I know it takes a while. The food is really good here and the prices are insanely cheap for Copenhagen standards. On top of that, the portions are HUGE! You can easily share a meal with two people, even if you’re somewhat hungry. In addition to food they also have beer, wine and coffee. You can also pay to rent one of the many games they have. If you come with your laptop just know that there is free wifi but NO electrical outlets(seriously — none!), so come with a full battery or be prepared to relocate(a public library is right next door) when you need to charge your computer. For this reason I would probably not recommend this as a café to sit at with your computer all day. If you’re looking for a good, well-priced meal in the center of Copenhagen though, this is a great place!

Here’s where to go in Copenhagen if you want to feel like a student again. Paludan Bogcafe is a cute café on a quiet street by the university, with indoor and a few tables of outdoor seating. The café is inside(next to?) an old bookstore, and there is a lot of space inside for studying or reading. The food options are plentiful and quite affordable for Copenhagen(probably due to a large student population). I enjoyed the Paludans Brunch plate, which came with an assortment of delicious and plentiful food, including a small pancake, eggs, yogurt, and fruit. The brunch plate also comes with orange juice or a smoothie of choice, all for 99 kr! This was probably the most proper brunch we had during our trip to Scandinavia(and as Bay Area locals, we’re pretty picky about brunch!), and definitely the best deal. They also have a set of card games available to borrow, so we enjoyed a brunch-time game of Cards Against Humanity. Staff are friendly and service is pretty fast. It’s a great atmostphere for a small, casual group of friends, or for some alone-time with work or a book.

Great place to stop near the university for a quick lunch. Take note, there are lots of signs about thieves that operate in the area.

Café Paludan is a great place to experience Copenhagen’s student life. Located in the city center and very close to the Church of Our Lady and right next to the main University of Copenhagen, this place offers a lot of books, yeah also to read in. It is like an English book store only with Danish books. The food is delicious and the drinks as well. I had a huge chicken & bacon sandwich what comes with salad, olives, cucumber and pickles, and a house dip, together with a Danish raspberry soda, all nice in taste. The sandwich is quite a big portion by the way. So bring an empty stomach with you. The staff is friendly and the seating is comfortable providing sofa chairs in this good atmosphere sitting among all these books. People on the neighboring table were also playing back gammon. Plugs are rare but if not occupied you might spot a few. There are two floors, one upstairs with most of the books and one downstairs which is separated in two wings with the rest of the books. There is even a gallery on the way upstairs. So when you are in Copenhagen looking for some atmosphere do yourself a favor and stay at this nice Book-Café Paludan. With Love! Love this place! One of my favourite brunch places in Copenhagen as for many other people so might get challenging to get a table. Worth the wait though!

Tasty food, not too expensive by Copenhagen standards. The inside(esp. upper level) is pretty – it looks like a bookstore /antique shop which was converted into a café.

Excellent lunch or casual light dinner place. I I passed by couple of times thinking they only serve coffee and sandwiches and only checked this place out for my last lunch in Copenhagen. Loved it. I would even recommend it as a dinner place if you go alone. It’s casual setting and the lay out of tables(single, group, communal to share) makes it friendly for any combination. There is breakfast menu, lunch menu till 4 pm, then regular menu with several main courses till 10 pm. From the lunch menu I had pan fried flounder with shrimps and smoked salmon with lots of salad on the plate as garnish. My daughter had smoked salmon sandwich with avocado which was excellent(it is on a regular menu) –79Kr I was also impressed with their tea. It is made of loose leafs, not tea bags, my Earl Grey was excellent

Great for breakfast/brunch, but also for lunch. Very cozy and interesting atmosphere being in a middle of a bookstore! Prices are fair for quality and huge portions!

Nice place for a get-together with friends to have tasty burgers or desserts, coffees /wines or beers. It is quite big and it is located at the heart of Copenhagen. The price menu is affordable. While you enjoy your coffee or beer you can buy the book you’ve provably been looking for. This place is ideal for students or tourists.

Nice brunch spot in the middle of the city of Copenhagen. The place is a converted bookshop. Ordering is British Pub-style eg you have to order and pay in advance at the counter. Got the brunch platter for 99DKK which I thought was a really good deal considering the amount and variety of food you got. You also get a fresh orange juice or a coffee. I’d come again and order the same thing.

This café is really cute. The food is good and the portions are large. No wonder the locals come here! Moreover, this is a really great place to do work. The books all around are really relaxing and give a great vibe. I could probably sit here all day.

The staff are alright, but I’m pretty sure, they’d rather not be there. They’re like«meh, this job sucks, but, you know, whatever». The food has the same story. It’s pretty loud. And the line is like entering hell. It never freaking ends.

This café is a perfect place to study, eat lunch, drink coffee or just have long talks. It has lots of seats on different floors and charming bookshelves everywhere. The toast, fish sandwich and coffee was very tasty. The WiFi is not super and the staff rather busy, otherwise very nice.

Paludan appears to be very popular not only amongst students but also in all age groups. It’s an affordably priced book café with lots of plain wood tables that are always full. There is sometimes even a waiting line to get a table, so if you’re more than two people I recommend making a reservation beforehand. The food offer is very good, especially for the price range. They offer different salads, burgers and other main courses, but also smaller snacks and cakes. Their smoothies are worth trying, and the wine is not too bad either. Student discount for beer. You order your food and drinks at the counter and there is often a long queue for that as well. I can imagine that daytime during the week the café might be slightly more quiet and could be suitable for studying/working. But at other times the crowds raise the noise level quite high. It’s a nice place to drop by for some very casual drinks or snacks, if you can find a table.

The food and drink is only so-so but the prices and the location are great! My go-to place if I am in this area and need a place to sit for a bit. Unfortunately it is usually cramped, but if you can get a good seat, it’s worth sitting here for a few hours. The staff are also usually very friendly, and there is free tap water, both of which are rarities in Copenhagen! Free wifi too.

I would give the food five stars, but the review gets a 4 because the place as a whole is a bit stressful and not well signed inside. We waited in line for a while only to find that they would not take our order eithout first finding a table. We saw others ordering without having snagged a table yet, though, so I guess it’s a selective rule. The food was great. We ordered the salmon sandwich and chicken bacon sandwich. Each came with huge pieces of meat, a nice crusty roll, fresh sauteed potatoes, and fresh veggies. The prices were very reasonable. Even if you hate crowds and cramped seating, I’d recommend giving it a try.

I came here for dinner the first night I was in Copenhagen, and I loved it. You order at the counter, but you have to know the room your table is in so that they know where to bring your food later. I had the goat cheese burger and a carlsberg, both of which were absolutely great. The portions here are huge and definitely worth the price! You may have to wait in line a bit to order, but it’s worth it :)

One of my favorite cafes in Copenhagen! Reasonably priced food — including delicious smoothies and gorgeous breakfast platters! I could spent all day here with my laptop or book soaking up the atmosphere! The books surrounding you make you feel like you’re in a library. Such a cute quaint café, also good for bigger social groups Also a great inner city venue for dinner where I recently had a dinner party. Fantastic dinner menu — salads generous and sundried tomato pasta delicious. Drinks reasonable 25−35dkk for a beer and 55dkk for a gin & tonic

Paludan is a very popular café, and due to that it can sometimes be hard to find seating. It is definitely worth it to eat here though, so keep hunting for an open spot somewhere! ;) I absolutely love that the walls are covered in books as if you are in a library. It’s a very cozy atmosphere, and also a perfect place for students to go to get some work done. They have many different choices on their menu, but my favorite thing is to come here for brunch. You have to go up to order your food and unfortunately sometimes you have to stand in line for a while before it’s your turn to order. So that’s a downside, but the food is great so I’ll be back again and again! :)

Cute bookstore/café for breakfast/brunch. The breakfast platter is a great deal — for $ 15USD you get smoked salmon, scrambled eggs, an assortment of fruit, yogurt/granola, cheese, bread and butter, AND a smoothie. It’s the best way to start your day.

3.5 stars Definitely the place to go in central CPH when you want to get your grub on and not drop too many kroner(which is easy to do in this city). Came here the other night with some friends in need of a cheap and filling meal and we got exactly that. The line to order food takes a while since there is only one person taking orders and making drinks but it’s easy to see why since they try to keep their prices as low as possible. There was a bit of a mix up when my food(tomato soup and goat cheese salad) was ready… Essentially the waiter got confused and food took about 30 minutes to be served. Although I would usually dock a star for that they were very apologetic and I know this is not the norm in this establishment. Food was hearty and good, although the tomato soup was WAYTOOSALTY! Aside from that decent food overall, nothing fancy or out of this world. I highly recommend this place for people trying to fill their tummies on while on a budget in this expensive city.

Easily the best value for your money besides Smagsløget. The portions are simply gigantic. I had the tuna sandwich, which was good but nothing special. The roasted potatoes and chili dipping sauce were far and away the highlight. The café is jam-packed at lunch, and it’s got a great feel with some top notch people watching. Given the number of laptops I saw, it also might make for a decent coworking space. Although given the long lines, you won’t exactly be getting multiple coffees while you’re there!

Dropped by during my last day at Copenhagen and loved it. The atmosphere is spacious, well-lit, and all-in-all a pretty nice place to study or grab a casual breakfast or lunch with someone. They have quite an extensive selection for food, but I just ended up getting the vegetarian brunch. It came with fruits, pancake with maple syrup, Greek yoghurt, scrambled eggs, hummus, and grilled vegetables. Most of the food was fresh and quite tasty… minus the thick cuts of cheese. Sorry, but I’m not a lover of a cheese… especially when you’re throwing an inch thick of cheese onto my tomato. I’ll pass. The yoghurt was also on the heavier side and could have used less syrup. The pancake was rather thick and eggy, and the fact that it was already pre-drenched in maple syrup didn’t help. Americans prefer their pancakes fluffy. The scrambled eggs were moist and fluffy, and the hummus was a great spread to add to the bread. Oh… AND there was a strawberry smoothie included in this meal set too! I think it was really the bang for the buck for brunch in Denmark. Service was quick and friendly.

I feel like for no other reason than that the vibe in this place is spot on, I need to give it five stars. Paludan seems to be the place for all the peoples. Not just students, either. While I sat at a table for 4 hours on a coffee date there was basically a constant influx of people from all walks of life, from locals, to tourists, and old to young. Lots of studious types too, as I’m sure the constant drone of activity helps keep the creative thoughts flowing. Food and beverage are excellent, so long as you’re willing to stand in line for 10 minutes to make your order. On a Friday holiday the line was never fewer than 15 people deep all afternoon, and there was seemingly only one waitress for the entire show. The teas, mochas, and treats were delish, though, so definitely worth the wait.

Looks better than it really is. 90 kr. for a burger in a cosy setting, surrounded by old, worn bookshelves sounds pretty good but it’s just not as cosy as it looks from the outside. The burger isn’t that good either: too big to eat without knife and fork and mostly flavorless. The fries are decent though and the chilimayo likewise. They have beer, food and coffee but don’t really excel at any. Even though they have an impressive bottled beer selection, the vibe you get feels more coffeplace-ish — and if you want a coffee there are simply better places to go! The good parts: there’s loads of seating and if you’re really hungry it’s definitely a better choice than«Dalle Valle» across the street.

I purposely did a 6 hour layover in Copenhagen to explore the city a bit, as I heard the city center was easily accessible from the airport via Metro. It is — about a 15 minute ride to the city center where Paludan Bogcafe is located. This is a cool place. Very spacious and is clearly a popular spot for both tourists and locals. I got brunch — chicken/bacon omelette and it was great! Judging by the other reviews, there are a lot of other desirable dishes. I’m happy I chose this spot for my one meal in Copenhagen. Also, free WiFi. Great experience.

If you are in Copenhagen looking for a perfect brunch or breakfast spot to start off your day, this place is it. Immersed between books and cozy feelings, you will be enjoying the best brunch plate ever. The Paludan brunch plate comes with delicious bread(2 kinds) and your choice of an OJ or a blueberry smoothie(get the smoothie). It is amazing value for the amount and the variety of food that you get. Grab a menu, order in the left room of the ground floor and grab a seat anywhere you want(they will find you). Best brunch spot in Europe and I’m not even exaggerating.

Brunch here is unquestionable, uncompromisable. As in, if your friend invites you to wake up at 10 am on a Sunday to ensure a seat, you pull your miserable body out of bed because the food will be well worth it, for the soul and the bank. Get the Paludan brunch platter(or Vegetarian for non-meat eaters). It does not disappoint. For the indecisive eater, this is a gift — sliced fruit, greek yogurt sprinkled with museli, bacon, juicy sausages brie + gouda eggs and a pancake. Don’t forget the additional rye and Italian bread in a basket. Paludan understands brunch, and limits each portion to just the right amount to make for a smiley, ever so slightly bloated belly. My only complaint is the unappreciated bread that people leave untouched! Such is the saddest waste I’ve ever witnessed. Also — what makes for a more organic experience than stuffing your face amongst rustic book shelves lined with vintage hardbacks? This place guarantees a positive time. Enjoy the bonus people watching!

This place is really beautiful with books all along the wall and cozy sofas and chairs on the upper level. The food was good, I had the tuna sandwich which was enormous and well made, although the potatoes on the side could have been in the oven a little longer but we’re still good! The menu is extensive and they serve food all day which is a plus in this city! I would love to go back and try many more things I their menu! The only annoying thing is that you have to order at the bar, so there forms a long line after a while! I can’t wait to go back here though!
