Spiritus Distillers

Spiritus makes a whole series of different boozes in which I tried one of their Aquavits. There is a saying Denmark when you eat Smørrebrød that «you need to drink enough akvavit to allow the fish to swim in it». Meaning if you have enough of the spirit, the herring that you’re most likely having in your Danish open faced sandwich will be «swimming» in the alcohol you consume. Tried the Kronborg (yes very clever since they are located in Helsingør) which had a warm caraway taste, a spicy kick, and then the burn of alcohol. As a younger version of myself I would have hated this stuff. My palate has however changed drastically over the last few years and it’s allowed me to enjoy things from other cultures, that I have no prior reference to. Here’s to boozing and lunching!
