Tandem is a language school located near the Rathaus and a short distace from Jahnplatz. I attended the school for a few months in 2006 as a part of my undergraduate studies. The teachers at Tandem arranged for host families for me and the other students from my university in America. In our class, we were taught German language, including grammar, vocabulary, reading, writing and speaking. Through our lessons we also learned about German history and culture. We also took class trips to other German cities, but this was a part of the arrangement with our American university. However, Tandem also offered additional field trips within Bielefeld. We went to Dr. Oetker Welt and Sparrenburg with the other students from around the world. Tandem Bielefeld also offered trips outside of Bielefeld such as visiting Muenster for Karneval and various museums. Of course all additional field trips cost additional funds not covered by the tuition. One of the benefits of attending a language school is meeting other international students, and you all have one thing in common you are all learning to speak German! Of course this somewhat limits your ability to hold in depth conversations. The school also provided hot tea and coffee for students during breaks, and breaks were just long enough to walk down the block to the bakery to get something to eat. The teachers are very nice, and they really try to help their students understand the language.
