One block away from the Frankfurt Main Station or Hauptbahnhof is this bird-cooking eatery that I was fortunate to find open while wandering the streets on a national holiday. Being one of the only places open on the block, there were plenty of customers giving them dinnertime business, myself included. When I stepped in, the smells of chicken roasting on a spit and deep fryer grease all but made my stomach grumble more. The workers were nice and patient with the flow of patrons coming in and out. I ordered a combo plate with chicken leg and fries(Hänchenkeule Menü) for under € 5. One nice little thing is that they don’t charge you extra for sauces; they ask you if you want ketchup, mayo, or both and give you a generous helping. Hey, every cent saved helps! Speaking of generous, the fries portion seemed large as well. And they don’t give you puny little bones, but good sized meat for the price. Also on the menu: turkey legs, rice, wurst, and burgers. There may be a wait, but that’s because they can only have so many legs or thighs at a time on that rotisserie. I took my order to go, and when I finally dug into my meal, I was grateful to have randomly walked into Chicken House. The skin was seasoned well, the meat was juicy, the fries had the perfect crisp, and the ketchup actually turned out to be curry ketchup, which made dipping that much better.
