You learn something new every day. What did I learn today? That Moby Lines which carts people aboard their ferries from several Italian mainland ports to the Italian islands of Sardinia and Elba and the French island of Corsica is a German company. Thus, the copious and unused listings for Moby at all these ports ought to be pared down. In Italy, Moby goes from Genova, Livorno(Tuscany), and Civitavecchia(port for Rome) to the major islands listed above. When we went a few summers back, they were reasonably priced, they were pleasant during a late ticketing snafu, there were all kinds of animated Italians partying or sleeping through the night in anticipation of the arrival to Sardinia the next morning, and the cabin was comfortable. For what it is, it was pretty good. The only thing I didn’t like was the cramped shower down the hallway with the wood or plastic floor slats, which gave it a less than touristy feel. Here’s the funny thing. You don’t need an alarm clock. If you’ve taken a ship or a ferry before, sometimes the mere sound of the engines slowing down and the change in the motion you’ve been lulled to sleep by is enough to wake you up. Such was the case here. The crossing over to Sardinia was fun!
