I ended up at Bar 52 last night with some friends to watch a Kauko Röyhkä gig. The place has«local» written all over it – I’m told this is a popular watering hole for Lauttasaari natives. It has a nice twist on «memorabilia» décor, with old Finnish movie posters and such. Some might call it cheesy but it’s not everyday you strike up a conversation at the bar desk about Olavi Virta, with his photograph on the wall. The on tap selection is limited at best — just the typical Finnish stuff you normally get at every bar: Karhu A, lonkero, etc. The bottle and can selection was nothing to write home about, either. I recall they had only a single IPA(Brooklyn Brewery). Only two bourbons, like most Finnish bars. Bar 52 is roomy so I can see why they’re able to bring in artists to perform. It’s a good place to catch a gig, and there’s a terrace, but from the bar side keep your expectations in check.
