Like the review written above, I can agree to much of the same experience. We arrived for a party of six, which at first seemed to crowd the small restaurant. The owner and his family gladly welcomed us. Two regular customers who sat nearby were very friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. Our meals were prepared in the traditional Egyptian style, which were of several large dishes for all to share. The bread was steaming hot and quite delicious along with the falafel, salad, and eggplant dishes. It was a pleasure to experience the authentic cuisine and service. Thank you.

Eating here could be described as hit and miss, but since there are not many chances for Egyptian cuisine in Helsinki(or in Finland), you should try this. I can recommend the hot beef served in clay pot — if you are a fan of REAL spicy fair. Made me sweat and my stomach was burning still couple hours later. 4 pints of beer couldn’t help. But that is exactly how it should be, since the owner warned me that it might be little bit too hot for a westerner.(I dislike those restaurants that claim to serve spicy food but don’t even no what that means. Owner of El Karim does and I respect him for that.) Along with egyptian specialities there are some pizzas, steaks and kebabs in the menu. They are at best ‘ok’, so try some egyptian instead. Owner is a pleasant family man and his wife and couple of kids seem to be always hanging around. That gives the restaurant nice home-like egyptian feel, even though the restaurant generally looks like any another crappy Finnish suburban kebab-pizzeria.
