Just enjoyed an excellent dinner with my son and two old friends from college. Second day in Helsinki feeling a bit jet lagged and fatigued from walking many miles in this truly beguiling city that punches well above its weight compared with other larger metro areas. Driven by hunger pangs and flagging energy to a much earlier than typical dining hour, we were hoping Stefan’s could satisfy our desire for a decent meal in a comfortable setting. It did not simply meet but significantly exceeded our expectations. I ordered a classic steak house iceberg wedge with stilton, bleu cheese and bacon. It arrived well chilled and I found it crisp and delicious. This was followed by a tender, flavorful tenderloin prepared to a perfect medium rare. To this I added roasted root vegetables and and another steak house fixture, a rich and savory creamed spinach and finally, a ramekin of Bearnaise sauce. Delicious! My son went for an Entrecôte steak that he pronounced one of the best he’s ever had in his 28 years on the planet. To it he added a better than standard issue baked potato. My buddies each had the tenderloin and roasted veggies. From across the table they each appeared to consume their plates with gusto. For dessert, two of us chose a warm cherry, almond pie ala mode and one a simple single serving of smooth, high quality vanilla ice cream. Very good. But the winner was a fantastic cheese cake that my friend, originally from New York and a bit of a cheese cake snob, declared perhaps the best he’s ever had. Given the fact that he just qualified for medicare, this lends to him a bit more gravitas in making such pronouncements than my enthusiastic but comparatively inexperienced offspring. Atmosphere is warmly inviting, casually upscale. Servers were very cordial and well versed in the menu. Noise level well suited to conversation. To be fair, you may want to plan on a leisurely pace. Perhaps not the best choice for a pre-theater meal or when on a deadline. All in all I believe Stefan’s is not just a great steakhouse in Helsinki but that it could hold its own against the best in many parts of the globe.

We are sitting at Stefan’s Steakhouse waiting for our food… It’s been an hour and a half… Quite hungry by now. Better be an excellent steak.

Delicious five courses meal and an elegant lounge! The food was amazing and can’t say anything bad about it. Waiters were extremely professional but have to say that service was a bit slow and we would be left waiting a looong time between courses and no one would come to ask if we would like another drink… Nonetheless, recommend it for a romantic dinner(they have a cozy two-seater tables section where you can enjoy your meal comfortably) or for a group or work function to enjoy a nice meal and socialise. Hats up for for Stefan and his food, but if carnivorous meals is not your thing, they serve other things too ;)

Beautiful modern luxurious décor and furnishing, yet still quite rustic. Menu is to die for. Best tuna steak I’ve had in a long time and one of the few places to have it on the menu in Helsinki. Only critique is service was a little nondescript, and a tad pricy. But you definitely have to check it out.

For the price, food was ok. Portions are very small. Service was extremely slow. Definitely not a 5 star steakhouse. Make sure you call ahead with reservations. 2 of us walked in and they said they were sold out for the evening. Then miraculously they found a table for two setup near the coat check area. When the couches at the front bar were empty. Would I go again? Probably not.

Amazing food and service. Restaurant was comfortable. Only problem was that the food was quite expensive.

One of the best(if not the best) steak houses in Helsinki. I have to say my favourite ones are in Tampere anyways, but this one comes close. I had Finnish entrecôte with cognac and peppercorn sauce and my companion took Surf & Turf with smoked garlic sauce. The food was good, I had my steak as medium but it was maybe a bit overcooked, my friend’s steak was ok. The sauces were very thin, I would have liked it a bit thicker(it was close to water like sauce) — even thou the taste was still good. Pouring that to the steak was a bit of pain, since it didn’t stick much to it. We arrived to the place when it opened the doors and were the first customers there. We still had to wait our servings 30 minutes, so that is a bit of a minus. The side order salad I had the the entrecôte was very small, if you are hungry don’t take that. Since the restaurant is charging separately for beef, sauces and side orders, I would like to see them to be proper sizes. Overall, I would give rating of 4⁄5 or maybe 3.8÷5. Slowish service, small side orders and very thin sauce drops some points. Considering the price — 90 euros for two with one small glass of wine — I can eat well in many other places cheaper. If you are looking for steaks specifically, Stefan’s is the place to try.
