Ambiance au top grâce au chanteur/​pianiste. Musique un peu forte toutefois pour pouvoir discuter avec ses amis.

Unique en son genre, ce bar propose une multitude d’absinthe à déguster. Son propriétaire est passionné et explique son «musée» personnel.

Tucked in one of the many small streets in Veil Antibes is this beauty. At first, I was really unsure of what this place was and when I found out curiosity got the best of me and I’m so glad that it did.
I’ve been here a couple of times and every time I have an awesome experience. The ambiance alone is awesome. The actual bar is underground and it is a very small place, the only way in or out is by a spiral staircase.
I didn’t really know what to expect from the actual Absinthe other than anything that was portrayed in EuroTrip. Now I know, Absinthe isn’t one of my favorite drinks solely because it tastes like licorice.
I think the best part was preparing the Absinthe. You can drink this alcohol in a number of ways, the one that this bar does is the traditional way — by slowly dripping water unto a sugar cube held up by a strainer. Also they have a rule that you have to wear a hat while drinking — they have a large variety to choose from. I’m not exactly sure why, but its the house rules and it adds to the fun.
If you wish to take some Absinthe home with you, they have a store upstairs which faces Le Marche Provencal! It honestly is a really cool experience, and I highly recommend if you’re ever in Antibes to check it out.

You don’t have to cut your ear off to partake in Van Gogh’s libation of choice. Nor do you have to be a revered writer like Hemingway to watch water dissolve a fragile sugar cube into the emerald liquid. Regardless of who you are, this cave of wonders welcomes all Green Fairy enthusiasts.
When we had one day to enjoy Cannes, what do you do? You take a train to Antibes, traipse through a thunderstorm and take refuge here at the Absinthe Bar.
PAY ATTENTION: That’s not just an olive oil store (they also sell Abinsthe), it’s the entrance to the bar. The street entrance to the bar is probably open during normal drinking hours only.
The rainy October afternoon appeared to have chased the patrons away and we made best use of our time. The helpful bar maid guided us towards various absinthe brands based on popularity, flavor, alcohol content and finish. Once our selection was chosen, she proceeded to personally walk us through the traditional preparation of the infamous drink.
As we enjoyed our beverages, we donned various hats and struck several poses beneath to picturesque homages to all things absinthe. Ridiculous fun! My only regret was that we were not able to take in the full ambience and see the bar rockin’ in all it’s glory. Nonetheless, it was a memorable experience that should not be missed by likeminded friends.

Boy was this a fun experience! Great place to just hang out and have a fun time, absolutely no worries! Enjoy the random hats and get your Absinthe on! Had the green absinthe. Yikes that was a bitter experience! But it was still fun!

What a great experience. I have been to absinthe bars in Paris and other parts of the world and this is the best by far. The owner is amazing and can host in more languages than I can shake a stick at. His knowledge is solid as well and the environment is fun. Be careful, some people left this place sloppy so try to all get something different and share instead of trying to drink them all. They also sell it as well in small bottles to take home and share the experience with friends later.

Stolze Preise (ab 7EUR pro 2 cl, wird immerhin mir Wasser aufgefüllt :P), dafür geniales Ambiente und riesige Auswahl! Die Bar ist sehr urig, gemütlich und kurios. Der Besitzer war ein alter Herr, der mindestens 3 Sprachen kann und selbst bedient. Witzige Hüte verteilt er auch, an jeden — eine fantastische Idee übrigens :) Das Ritual mit dem Zuckerwürfel und dem tropfenden Wasser ist an sich mehr Show als irgendwie sinnvoll, aber das macht nichts. Es wäre jedoch generell empfehlenswert, dass man sich im Vorfeld zum Besuch ein bisschen erkundigt sonst fällt man garantiert auf die älteste Absinth-​Sorte nach Originalrezept des Hauses rein und verpasst dadurch vielleicht was Besseres.

High prices (from EUR 7 per 0.7 oz, nevertheless filled up with water: P), but brilliant atmosphere and a huge selection of absinthe brands! The bar is very quaint and cozy. The owner was an old man who speaks at least 3 languages and waits on the guests himself. There were a bunch of funny hats for the guests to put on — a fantastic idea by the way :) The ritual with the sugar cube and the dripping water is in itself more show than in any way reasonable, but that does not matter. However, I’d generally recommend that you look absinthe up prior to your visit otherwise you’re guaranteed to fall for the oldest Absinthe variety after original recipe of the house and maybe miss on something better.

Tres bel endroit ou vous vous sentirez projeter hors du temps. Ce bar a absinthe est ideal pour passer des agreables moments entre amis.

Très mignon à l’intérieur, avec des vieilles publicités pour l’absinthe. Des chapeaux partout pour les clients. Un piano man le vendredi soir. Assez bruyant. La plupart des absinthes sont à 6EUR, les autres à 9EUR.

Truly an experience. I can recommend it to everybody. The cozy cellar in the heart of the old town have a great atmosphere and the staff knows their thing. Absinthe never tasted better! I recommend a visit to their shop in daytime on the ground floor for a bottle of absinthe, a tin of olives or olive oil.

En plus d’être un bar où on découvre et déguste cet alcool peu courant qu’est l’absinthe, ce lieu est aussi un musée.
En tant que musée, on peut voir des objets liés à l’absinthe et aux cafés de la belle époque de l’absinthe: fontaines, affiches, pyrogènes, chapeaux…
Mais on peut aussi écouter le patron parler de l’histoire de l’absinthe: en vrai passionné, il a chaque fois de nouvelles anecdotes à raconter.
Pour l’ambiance, on y trouve un piano auquel chacun peut jouer. Des musiciens viennent régulièrement on se sent alors complètement hors du temps!

Tout est dit, original et decalé

Un petit pub très convivial spécialisé dans la dégustation de l’Absinthe, cette boisson alcoolisée anisée qui a rendu fous Baudelaire et Van Gogh…
Le site est magnifique: une petite salle en pierre voutée tapissée de vieilles affiches ventant les mérites de la fée verte et où trôné une armoire remplie de vieilles fontaines à eau en étain.
Il existe des tas d’Absinthes différentes, des blanches, des vertes, des supérieures, des douces ou des amères… Les serveurs seront là pour vous conseiller et vous faire gouter diverses essences. Pour ma part j’ai adoré la muse verte (à 68°) et la résurrection (blanche à 76°).
L’ambiance est très cool dans ce pub. Des chapeaux sont disposés ça et là, des hauts de forme, des képis, des bérets, certains à fleurs… de quoi faire quelques clichés décalés et s’amuser entre amis.
L’Absinthe doit se boire en respectant un certain protocole: Vous devez placer la cuillère à absinthe sur votre verre rempli de cet élixir (6 euros seulement le verre), puis placer un sucre sur la cuillère, placer le verre sous la fontaine à eau glacée et ouvrir doucement le robinet afin qu’un goutte à goutte face lentement fondre votre sucre et que le tout se verse peu à peu sur votre liqueur pour la diluer (et réduire ainsi le degré moyen d’alcool autour de 20° je pense). Une fois le sucre fondu et le verre à moitié plein, vous pouvez mélanger et gouter cette boisson aux plantes inconnues (l’annis domine et le goût ressemble au pastis ou à l’ouzo).
Vous aurez sans doute comme nous droit à des olives, un peu de pain et de tapenade, voire quelques petits oignons blanchis pour accompagner votre dégustation.
Tous les éléments sont réunis pour passer un bon début de soirée entre amis.

génial vraiment cest le genre dendroit que jaime: convivial, petit; pas de musique forte, une ambiance tranquille; pas cher il faut y aller avc un bonpetit groupe.

j’adore cette bar. cest comme dans notre salon ;). les gens sont genitls, les boissons fort et l’idee qu’il y a des chapeaux pour tous le monde est original et drole :) je vais y aller autre fois surement.

Easily my favourite place in Antibes. I lived near here for a while, and would tuck into its basement location right off the Marche Provencal all the time, either alone or with friends.
The owners of both the bar and the Balade en Provence store above are amongst the nicest people you could ever meet.
The ambiance that is the Absinthe Museum is fantastic within the Roman foundations of the Old Antibes. Do not hesitate to inquire about the history of the green fairy as a drink. If Danny is around, he will happilly share the story with you, and some of the details may surprise. The uninitiated can be guided in the consumption of the drink as well, and those with more exposure will be delighted by the wide variety of absinthes, pastis and wine available.
The bar more easily accomodates small groups of two to four, but if it can be grabbed, the round table in the corner by the door fits a larger group comfortably. It is also fun in that this table’s shape is due to the fact that it was once the town well.
With its piano bar ambiance, and the massive collection of hats to be tried and passed around, the absinthe bar is a great social occasion. One that has very few peers against which it can be compared anywhere.
Highly recommended.
