Alain Hess is a must-​visit when you are in Beaune. It is a fantastic cheese and wine shop, probably the best in the entire city. The array of cheeses — all lovingly displayed in a large glass case — is enough to make any cheese lover salivate and instantly reach for his wallet. The wine shop downstairs is also impressive. Of course you are not going to find any of the highly collectible stuff, but there is a very good selection (of Burgundy, of course!) at decent prices. You can also find a good selection of hand harvested sea salt, high end chocolate, such as Bonnat, and Fallot mustard.
