This review is for the studio. Nice and clean room, comfortable bed. The long term studio is cleaned once a week. Room is small but ok for single person. A bit tight for 2 but can survive. Breakfast is in the main breakfast room and provided daily. However the offering doesn’t change. Everyday it’s the same foods. Ham, cheese, cut fruit salad, yogurts, cake, bread rolls, pastries. After staying for more than 4 days, I’m bored :) there’s a pool but I don’t use it.

I ended up in this hotel because my Airbnb reservation fell though at the last minute(I was at the airport), and because there was a trade show at the Paris conference center, and nearly every other hotel in the area was already booked. I ended up booking through priceline, and the average room cost for me was nearly $ 200, so this was not particularly cheap. The front desk staff were polite and happily spoke English. My room was on the 5th floor(up 5 flights in Europe), and the elevator was out, so at 9pm after a full day of work, and in 80 degree heat, I lugged my American-sized suitcase up 5 flights. The elevator worked only twice while I was there. The room was compact, but clean, containing the double bed, desk, wall-mounted flat screen TV, and a few shelves. There was not adequate space for my suitcase, clothes, etc once unpacked. The area for hanging clothes was very small and awkward to access. The blackout curtains worked fairly well; important as it was light until 11pm and sunny by 5:30 am daily in June. The A/C did not work at all, and I had to open the windows to cool it off, allowing bugs in during the night. The bathroom, on the other hand, was unnecessarily generous, with a full-size window, double wide sink/counter, and full bath. The bathroom décor was very sleek and modern, however it was quite strange that the shower head seemed to have been installed improperly. There was a large«sunflower» style shower head that was completely non-functional(not even plumbed), and then the more typical movable French-style shower head with a long section of tubing, however this was attached below a valve for the other showerhead, and was not at a usable level. The mechanism holding it up was also broken, so I MacGyvered this with a rubber band. The hotel provided 2 types of shampoo and bar soap. The room overlooked a courtyard adjacent to two apartment buildings, where I could unfortunately view French families eating dinner and one elderly man ironing his clothes without a shirt on, and could unfortunately hear a French lady singing(horribly). I felt very intrusive, but had to keep the windows open for temperature control. The included breakfast, at 10 Euros, was the best deal of any of the 3 hotels where I stayed. Options included fresh cut fruit salad, cold cut meats and cheeses, 4 types of fresh pastry, 4 types of fresh breads, soft cheese, butter, cereals, milk, juice, and machine-made coffees. The women staffing the breakfast buffet were so incredibly hard working and happy. These same women hauled large baskets of linens up 5 flights when the elevator was out(all the time). The biggest problem with this hotel was that the rooms had incredibly poor sound insulation. The man in the room next to me was incredibly quiet and did not speak a single word or watch TV while there, however every time he rolled over in bed, used the toilet, or accessed his clothes on hangers, I could hear every detail. This hotel is located closest to the Saint Ouen(«Sant-wan») RER-C stop. It is much farther from Port-de-Clichy, and the walk from that stop is not particularly safe. There is a large cheap supermarket chain nearby, and several not-good restaurants. It was not particularly safe walking late at night as there were a few bars where groups of men stood around outside.

The Hotel/Residence Europe is really a two-star as far as hotels go, but with extra-friendly front desk staff, a swimming pool, a gym, and wi-fi, it’s almost as though you’re staying at one of the larger chain hotels. Double-windows protect you from street noise, cable TV keeps you entertained if you do anything but sleep in your room, and… well… that’s about all for the accommodation itself. Breakfast — while standard continental fare served buffet style — seems to be of higher quality than at other hotels in this class. Perhaps it’s an illusion created by the large, well-lit dining room, another bonus at this fairly reasonably priced hotel. Proximity to the lovely Roger Salengro park and the Allées Leon Gambetta make for a nicer location than other Clichy hotels, should you wind up making your sojour in the suburbs.
