We looked forward to returning after three years. We expected the very helpful English lady, but the staff had changed, and nobody spoke English or could help us with the menu (previously, menus had added the english translation). We should have brought the dictionary. (and shouldn't expect english to be spoken as a matter of course!) Consequently we had no starter, as we didn't understand it! We both ordered the John Dory, and f0und that parts of the fish were still raw. Also, we could not cut the pak choi with the fish knife and had to leave it. Sadly, we will not return.

In a touristy area chock-full of typical crêpe/galette cafes and moules-frites restaurants, Mr. Robert is a gem to find: intimate and casual. One of the best restaurants in Dinan and definitely one of our favorites in France so far. Came in on a Saturday night at 9pm without a reservation, and luckily we were seated in the last table available. The hostess was sweet, spoke English, and was extremely helpful regarding the menu and translations. Best yet, they were very casual about the menu — anything can be ordered as a starter or as a main, and they’re not sticklers to the rules about French dining that most restaurants seem to have. First, the amuse-bouche: whipped cucumber cream with oyster leaf — a leaf that actually tastes like oysters! Different, and delicious. I’m not a huge fan of actual oysters, but I totally dig the leaf. Here’s a pro tip: any time they offer scallops, order them! They were doing a special scallop menu, but I just had the scallops with risotto as a starter. Not kidding, I would have licked the plate clean. So amazing and perfectly cooked. For my main, I had the duck confit, which was served on a warm potato and bacon salad, and accompanied by mixed greens. The meat was amazingly tender and less fatty similar dishes I’ve had in the past. If I were in Dinan longer, I’d visit again. Thumbs up!
