We ordered Seafood Paella, it’s big portion to 2person, but so delicious & good taste for us, and then not too much expensive, Seafood paella € 33/person(€ 66/2person).

Overpriced with Terrible Service — Tourist Trap Alert. It might sound funny, but the unfortunate part of our experience with Boccaccio is the fact that restaurant serves very good food. However, the staff behavior is so inexcusable that it complete negates overall experience. We arrived to the restaurant for the dinner at around 9 pm in the evening, a group of 5 people. We were seated quickly and then had to wait for about 15 minutes for anyone to show up and at least offer some water(it took 5 other reminders later on to actually get the water) — however, this is not the issue, of course. The menu at the restaurant is written in misleading way to begin with, at least the English version. Paella, one of the main attractions on the menu, has somewhere in description that it can be ordered for two people minimum, but the price doesn’t say if it is per person or just for the dish for two people. Never mind that. We placed an order for the table, and we got calamari, steamed mussels, paella and the sea bass. We informed the waiter that we will share our dinner, and we said that we need paella for 2 people. Calamari arrived first, they were nicely grilled but a touch bitter. What was concerning that next the mussels arrived in two huge bowls, clearly in the double capacity. We were puzzled, but ddidn’t ask questions — despite the fact that we ordered only one, they were tasty so we wouldn’t object to that double order. But next we had two huge(seriously huge) skillets of paella arrive at our table, and we asked what is going on, the waiter said that this is what we ordered — two paella dishes for two people each. When we said that we never order that, he became extremely adamant about it, said that this happens multiple times every day(see my note about misleading menu), and he is not going to do anything. If we would be a different setting(a group of friends or just a family), I would try really to fight this — in a business setting, everybody felt equally uncomfortable and nobody wanted to have a shouting match during the business meeting, so we just had to let it go. End result is a completely spoiled evening with a good food(once you are put down like that, you really stop enjoying the experience and the conversation). Note that the cheapest dish at this restaurant is € 20, so all in all we ended up paying an extra € 86(extra mussels and two extra paella) and have lots of food which was thrown out and deal with an adamant crook as our waiter. In the end of the day, the real culprit is not the extra € 17 we all had to pay — it is the feeling of being taken advantage of, as well as rude and disrespectful treatment we received at the restaurant. Whomever owns this restaurant should be ashamed of themselves for allowing this to happen at their restaurant. Recommendation: Avoid

The Boccaccio was just amazing! I’ve never had a better Paella in my life! Though the waiters were a bit strange and the prices quite high(33 € p.p. for Paella), it was so worth it. The fish was fresh and the portion for two extremely big. We ended up taking over half of it home with us. Unforgettable night!

Excellent oysters, large portions, decent service for a place so packed. Seafood pasta wasn’t great. Atmosphere typical for an American-style resto, 100% tourist clientele(russian/chinese). There’s nothing Nicois about this place. Bottom line. If you’re looking for a comfortable place with an English menu and large selection then Boccacio is highly recommended. If you’re looking for an authentic experience and finer cuisine then there are much better smaller seafood places in Nice.

Our hotel recommended this place to us. The service was a little rude and snippy towards us as 3 young Americans. The food was great(especially truffle mashed potatoes) and the fresh seafood platters looked fantastic. The only drawback is the price. Definitely not a place to go if you’re not looking to spend big. Cheapest bottle of wine is 30 €. We had the grilled calamari, lobster linguini, and the sea bream. All good but debatably worth the expensive cost.

This place is terrible, at 33 € per person for seafood paella I expect fresh, good quality seafood instead it tasted old. They basically cooked the seafood to the point of being burnt to try and mask the poor quality. The rice was undercooked, the whole pan was drenched in oil and the chorizo was too salty. We also ordered their best oysters which were also not worth it. I should’ve eaten a subway sandwich instead of wasting my money on this place.

Group of seven young professionals found this to be one of the only restaurants open late on a Sunday night. Walked in without a reservation and walked out saying we had one of the best meals of our lives. From the pasta dishes to the meat to the paella to the wine to the dessert everything was superb and the wait staff was beyond accommodating. Highly recommend and would definitely go back.

We came to Boccaccio following the recommendation from the concierge in our hotel. We ordered wine and a paella which had to probably be the best that we had ever had in our lives! Add to that the amazing service and we had the perfect evening!

Boccaccio is located on a very touristy street next to nondescript eateries, so we did not expect much. However, if you don’t mind the price, this an extremely good location for a lunch in Nice. We tried the prix fixe menu(seafood), and it turned out excellent. It is definitely worth it to sit outside if the shade is available(some seats are in the sun). This provides ample opportunities for people-watching both in the street and in the restaurant(most of the patrons are tourists sent here by the staff at the hotels, but there is also a fair share of locals of foreign extraction). We tried also a dinner here, and it worked out well. However, at this price level there are more exciting places to dine in Nice. All said, if you are in the mood for seafood, whether it is lunch or dinner, this is a reliable place to go.

This restaurant happened to be close to our hotel and we were looking for either bouillabaisse or paella for dinner. This place had paella, and plenty of seating outdoors. We stopped by, sat outside, and proceeded to order seafood paella! The portion size is HUGE, probably could feed 2 – 4 people, so we just ordered that. :) To be honest though, the paella was decent but not super flavorful. Pretty salty, haha. Lots of mussels and shrimp! :) We had to take a pretty large portion with us to-go, to eat for lunch the next day.

We had an incredible lunch here, recommended by the concierge at our hotel. My husband ordered the bouillabasse(but wished he had gotten the lunch special like me…). I, obviously, ordered the lunch special, which was 26 € for an appetizer, fish course, dessert, and wine. The appetizer was a lovely small piece of fish with a few interesting bites of vegetables. The main course was an incredible white fish with a buttery sauce — the mushrooms and carrots in the sauce were out of this world. And the dessert was huge … And incredible! Yum!

Disappointed in the service to this recommended seafood restaurant. We had a party of six adults with reservations for dinner last evening. We were seated upstairs in the dining room. What spoiled our evening was the manner we were treated by the maître d. After looking over the menu selections, the maître d’ came over to our table and asked us if we were ready to make our selections. However being our first time at this restaurant and coming from the U.S.A., we had some questions for him. He was not very nice at all as he seemed irritated with our questions. We all felt he could have been more pleasant and patient in his manners. Two of the couples ordered the mixed assortment of seafood served on a large platter as well as the lobster pasta which they shared. The other couple ordered a mixed salad and the lobster pasta and told the maître d we planned to share both selections as well. When the lobster pastas were served, we were a bit disappointed that the pasta did not have the lobster meat ready to devour with the pasta. Much to our chagrin, the pasta dish is served with a whole lobster and nothing else. Fortunately our nice waiter offered to split the whole lobsters in half for the couples. Upon returning with our main entrees, we noticed that one of the split lobsters did not have a claw like everyone else. It contained only the small body with the entrails. We notified the waiter who called the maître d’ over to our table. The maître d’ told us in no short terms«tough luck». So be warned. Our bill totaled 254 Euro. Overpriced and disappointed!

Great service and quite expensive, but overall a very memorable experience. Would consider going back to this place again. I think they must have some sort of deal worked out with the local hotels, because it seems that the majority of patrons were guided here by hotel concierges. This is a tad annoying, but in walking around Nice, it does seem that this restaurant offers one of the largest varieties of FRESHSEAFOOD around. And this is precisely what we asked for when we solicited suggestions from our own hotel concierge. It’s a lovely location on Rue Messena, a bustling pedestrian-only street that bridges the Promenade des Anglais part of town to Place Messena and Vieux Nice. The restaurant is two-story, with an outdoor terrace that is enclosed partially when the weather isn’t warm. Upstairs was decidedly stuffy, but the smell of seafood was wonderfully intoxicating and we felt immediately welcomed by every employee who, despite being very busy, whiskey by us with«Bonsoir» greetings. We started with the largest and freshest oysters I’ve had in recent memory. Not only were they outstanding, but I did enjoy how few condiments were served with them. This allowed the creamy flavor of the oyster meat itself to shine through, not obscured by heavy lashings of chili and horseradish. In addition to the oysters, we ordered some sautéed mussels: large, brilliant tomato-based flavor, luscious crusty bread. By the time our entrees arrived we were nearly full! We both chose fish for our main meals — mine was sole and his was turbot. They came out from the kitchen WHOLE on the plate and our server took both fish to the back of the room to «prepare them» — ie. filleted them, removed the head and removed the larger bones. What was left behind of both fish was marvelous. Tender, subtle flavors, cooked in herbs and butter. There were massive amounts of both fish. I would recommend ordering these dishes simply for the experience — it’s unusual to be served whole fish, cooked to perfection, that is deboned and prepared table side. We were too stuffed for dessert but the selections of our neighboring table looked amazing. We also chose a half-bottle of Gewurtztraminer from Alsace to go with our meal, which paired rather well — on the sweeter side, but worked with the savory dinner selections. Yes, this place is overpriced. Yes, it’s a bit touristy. But we enjoyed our meals and the experience. Great seafood on the French Riviera.

What I love about wandering down streets in any city are the surprises that await around each corner. And the Rue Massena in Nice is just one of those streets. Shut off to vehicle traffic, this pedestrian area is full of little bistros and brasseries that beckon you to stop in and eat. I had a craving for seafood so into Boccaccio I went. I was warmly greeted by the owner who whisked me to a small table outside. But don’t let the unassuming nature of the patio fool you. Inside is a lovely upscale restaurant with rich woods, a sweeping staircase and even an aquarium. With the help of my server, I ordered some of the raw oysters(they had 6 different sizes and grades which is a little different than how we order them in the US). The server told me the«specials #1» were his favorite so I went with those. They were delicious– very fresh and served with mignonette sauce, and rye bread and butter. For my entrée, I went with the seafood paella. Good thing I was hungry as this was huge and included fish, clams, squid and mussels. They are quick to serve you making sure each person gets a little of everything that is included in the plan. With the saffron spiced rice, this was a wonderful dinner. Know that the minimum order on this dish is for two people so bring along a friend! Boccaccio opens at 7 pm. I had stopped by around 6 to put my name in for a table on the patio. If you go night at 7 without a reservation you probably will be able to get seated. But know by 8 this place was hopping so do yourself a favor and make a reservation. Know that this is not a cheap place. Dinner for two with a bottle of wine was $ 196e but well worth it for the quantity and quality of the food served. Good food, helpful servers and the ability to watch the world go by? Yep. It was a good choice for my first night in Nice.

Great service and not a long wait. The service was pretty good even though it could have been more attentive at times. There’s a longer wait for the outside. We didn’t have reservations and got there around 9p and we only waited about 10 minutes. They give you a glass of champagne while you wait, which is a nice touch. We had the paella for two, which was 30 Euro each. And the pan was twice the size of a steering wheel. Really. The first plate was really good but I got full fast and the bottom pieces looked too oily to eat. The millefeuille was made when it was ordered and it was the best dessert we had in France. Most of the patrons were older and this place reminded me of a toned down Waterbar in SF with the little aquarium dome in the middle.

My cab driver recommended this place to us for seafood. He said it was one of his favorites. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive. We ordered the plat du jour which was arctic char over a risotto with pesto, our first course was a salmon tartar, and dessert was probably the best dessert I have ever eaten… a praline encrusted éclair filled with crème and chocolate with a thin chocolate bar on top. I never wante it to end. Enough about dessert, my fish was perfect, risotto delicious and the pesto was the perfect added flavoring touch to the meal. I am not a big fan of salmon tartar but it was tasty, it was on top of an avocado mayo based mixture topped with a bit of mache and herbs. The food that was delivered around me looked just as appetizing.

If you ask the receptionist at your hotel where you might be able to find some good seafood, they’ll probably mention this place. I’m 99% sure the hotels have some sort of deal with Boccaccio, because I can’t see how anyone who lives in Nice can’t think of any other good seafood place in the area. You live on the freakin coast for God’s sake! The food here is mediocre. I had the huge 3-tier sampler of the cold seafood, and I wasn’t terribly impressed by any of it. I’ve had better mussels, oysters, crab, and such back home in California. The service is pretty terrible compared to everywhere else we went. Servers make a quick judgment about whether they like you(whether you have a lot of money) and aren’t very attentive at all. I highly recommend taking a taxi to La Reserve instead. Or finding one of the little restaurants in the center of Old Town.

Sehr gut, sehr teuer.

One of the best restaurants in Nice for sea food and fishes. Unfortunatelly, it’s also one of the most expensive and mainly apprecieted by tourists.
