Amongst the 5 star reviews, I must give this restaurant 4 stars. Don’t get me wrong the dinner was very enjoyable and the restaurant was down a quiet street away from the touristy crowds. The presentation was nice and you could clearly make out the Japanese influences in both the taste and plating of the dishes. The amuse bouche was soba noodles served in a Chinese soup spoon and the cappuccino was served in a tea cup which was very cute. The waiters were all polite and attentive. I would recommend this place to friends for an alternative French cuisine experience. I wouldn’t give this place 5 stars because it didn’t have that wow factor. The restaurant decorations could be more inviting as the street looked kind of dodgy and many passerbys seemed skeptical about coming in, hesitating for a few minutes. The three course set meal was average with a few stand outs like the fish starter and the panna cotta dessert. I ordered my beef to be cooked medium but it was unevenly cooked with some parts more well done and some parts more rare. The overall meal was satisfactory but needed more consistency.

Quelle bonne surprise.

Wonderful food and service. The octopus was incredibly tender and flavorful. This was one of the best meals in our 4 weeks in France. Small and down a small alley, but worth finding.

Very nice place! I can recommend this restaurant to all Unilocalers! Top notch service and food. Excellent atmosphere! We came when they opened at 7pm got full pretty quick. We managed without making reservation but I would suggest doing so since you don’t wanna miss this place!

I had the extreme pleasure of dining in this small, 10-table restaurant in Nice Vielle. Suffice to say, this is simply the best restaurant I have dined at in Nice or Cannes. If you love food and want an extraordinary chef, you must come here! The chef has created a simple yet exquisite menu of Japanese-influenced French cuisine. This is a chef who is obsessed with all aspects of his cuisine and was doing fresh and original things with his menu. The service is also exceptional and I would love to make a shout out to the maitre d’ and server Jean-Michel who is A++++. As for our food, we had a foie gras to start with and then my wife had the filet mignon with a soyaki glaze and I had the tuna. I will say this about the tuna: I generally don’t even like tuna, and this was without question the best restaurant-prepared tuna that I have had anywhere in the world. I am glad Jean-Michel recommended it. I just can’t say enough wonderful things about his place. I hope to return here on my next visit to the south of France. Go seek it out and judge it for yourself. Don’t forget to make a reservation!

I love, love, love this place. The staff seems to love their job and Chef Taka put his heart and soul into his menu from what I can gather. The dishes taste absolutely delicious and are also very appealing to the eye. We had our server pick out our entire meal from appetizer, entrée, dessert and wine. I am so glad we did because there wasn’t one item we were not happy with. Do yourself a favor and make it here soon!

5 Carriera dou Moulin 6300 Nice. I enjoyed a delicious roasted duck breast with brussels sprouts, and Matthew, a grilled sea bass. The chef was Japanese, meticulous and precise in his flavours, he even kindly came to our table to say hello. Emily Rose Reeder

Was our last night in Nice and we were looking for a good place to cap our stay at the Cote D’Azur. We were turned away from two restaurants because we didn’t have reservations. I would like to thank those two else we would not have found Hangout. The maitre’d was great — though we didn’t have a reservation he asked if we would mind sitting at the bar and watch the chef work. What a great experience that turned out to be. These three men were like a fine tuned clock — easily complementing one another in the kitchen. And now the food… in one word, SUPERSPECTACULARLYAWESOME. You must try the home made foie gras and octopus if available. The former melted like butter upon touch — rich, smooth, tasty as foie gras should be. The octopus was the most tender I have tasted — cooked with pesto butter, potatoes and mushrooms — mind, F’ing, blowing. The main course did not disappoint, the skate was smooth to taste. The canard was not too salty or too dry simply perfect. And, the Durade was silky. Highly recommend Hangout when in Nice. Make sure to call and make a reservation though a seat at the bar may be the best kept secret.
