I’ll give in to that niggling feeling that I’m obligated to write a review after posting some lovely photos from the promenade. Driving down to Nice from Lyon, the mentality of «go big or go home» was floating around in my head. Nice was one of the more beautiful cities I was visiting and I didn’t want to stay somewhere in a back corner street staring at a wall for 80 euro less a night. Come on, I’m in the French Rivera! Naturally, I couldn’t resist this gorgeous hotel right next to the historic Hotel Negresco. Especially since it wasn’t nearly as costly as it’s marble clad brother with the quirky looking doormen. So, at some point that«big”– was scaled down to «larger than average». Friendly, multilingual front desk staff? Check. Beautiful balcony rooms? Check. Updated and squeaky clean? Yup. Comfortable beds, similar to Westin’s signature«heavenly beds». It’s not big, not super modern but it gets the job done if you want to enjoy your afternoons on your balcony with a glass of wine overlooking the Promenade des Anglais. Fair warning, my room had no shower stall or curtain. You had to either sit in the giant tub or get the entire marble bathroom wet. Eep! My 5 days in Nice would have turned into a 3 days in ‘un hôpital’. After staying in 2 Air Bnb places prior, I was thinking rooftop access and/or a spa/gym would have been nice as well… but again, it’s a small(er) hotel. Location is excellent and a convent walk to two grocery stores if you have a hankering for a picnic on the beach or you’re just downright tired of the crappy touristy restaurants nearby. Free, but slooooooow wifi.

Nice and helpful staff. We had booked a privilege room with view over the town but we were upgraded to a superiour room with view over promenade anglais and the sea. The bathroom was beautiful but you can tell this is an old hotel which needs renovation. But we can’t really complain, the room was spacious and clean. We were not disturbed by any sound from neighbours. There is air condition. We ordered breakfast to be served in our room and that was good. Cost 22 € each, and it was generous. It included coffee or tea, juice, bread and butter, yoghurt and cereals, fruit salad, 3 – 4 small jars of marmalade, croissants, pain du chocolat, sponge cake. If you want cheese, ham, egg or bacon, you’ll have to pay extra though.

Très très chic Un hotel très chic et trop bien placé. J’ai surtout apprécié la vue sur la mer et la proximité de tous les magasins, promenades,…
