Food: 3 Service: –1 Ambiance: 3 Food: The food ranged from interesting(an amuse bouche) to the incredibly mediocre, including a boring interpretation on upside down pineapple cake that tasted of supermarket quality as well as a poorly-executed crab cannelloni that tasted primarily of ordinary cream cheese. Every single dish we consumed the night before at Flaveur was better than anything we consumed at Le Chantecler. But we did not go to Chantecler for the best food of our trip. Service: We went for the service. And that service was worse than anything we have ever experienced in any restaurant in our lives. For full details, go to this link(too long for Unilocal): Ambiance: You can look at photos online. You will see that it is over the top and old-fashioned. But it was not our style.

This was, by far, one of the best meals I have had in my entire life, if not the best. I should start by saying that this meal is VERYLONG. It took us three hours. However, this should be expected and welcomed as there are many, many exquisite courses such as palette cleansers, appetizers, etc. Anyway, the food was amazing, extravagant, all of the above. The presentation of each course was nothing short of beautiful. I ordered the filet mignon, which was astounding. The restaurant was extra accommodating for a person in our party who was allergic to nuts. They specially made every exquisite dish and sometimes even made almost entirely different dishes. The dessert was not necessarily our favorite part of the meal, however, we were probably comparing and contrasting to the incomparable main course. If you have some time and some money on your hands, DEFINITELYVISITLECHANTECLER.

An exquisite meal. Service was top notch and the signature dish(veal sweetbread) was cooked to perfection and had deep and complex flavors. This was the first time I had sweetbread of any kind; it was heavily sauteed on both sides, which created a crisp and flavorful outer layer. This contrasted well with the soft and delicate center. The sweetbread was studded with chorizo, which gave the dish a rich umami flavor. I recommend it. The sommelier had a bit of trouble articulating the flavor profiles of the wines she recommended, although this was likely a result of the fact that she did not speak English as a first language. She was articulate enough, however, to convince me to select the wines she recommended. They paired well with the dishes and made the entire experience that much better. If you are in Nice, disregard your budget for a night and go to this restaurant. It was delicious.

This has to be the worst Michelin star restaurant in the world. While the food is fine, the service was painfully rude all along. In spite of stating in the reservation that one of my guests was vegetarian, the attitude was — shall we say typically and obnoxiously French. The décor is rather antiseptic and cold. Better ways to spend an evening in Nice.

The food was phenomenal and the staff was amazing and the entire experience was great. My wife and I celebrated our honeymoon in Nice and after I let the restaurant know upon booking they made the night really special. Everything was great, however what warranted this review was how the management went the extra mile. There was a wedding in the hotel next door to the restaurant, which we were told rarely happens, and about halfway through the dinner the band started and it was very loud. The staff immediately ran over to every table to apologize and offered everybody in the restaurant and complimentary glass of champagne. The music did not disturb us as much as we are young and from New York and used to the dining atmosphere, yet the staff clearly wanted to make the night special for everybody in the restaurant. Everything was well and good, and then the management went even further than that. 2 weeks after dining, the GM sent us a lovely e-mail again apologizing and asking for our mailing address to send us a gift. This was all very unnecessary as we greatly enjoyed the restaurant. I have never experienced this type of service dealing with a restaurant. I can tell how much pride the staff has for their great restaurant and how they want to make sure customers are fully satisfied and feel the experience was perfect. If anybody is going to Nice, this restaurant is a must, as it is the best restaurant there.

We ordered the Le Chantecler menu(110 € p/p), It was really good, tasty. When we arrived the service was slow. And we like the fast service that was uncomfortable.

I had a very nice meal here on my last night in Nice. 3.5 stars for the food, 5 stars for the service. The ambiance was a little too stuffy for my taste, although it has the Versailles vibe. The waiters were very accommodating, polite, and friendly. The amuse we got were really good. I was a little dubious when I saw an egg roll look alike and when the waiter said one of them had Szechuan gelee. I am not a fan of Asian fusion at all. But I was pleasantly surprised since they were all very good. I insisted they serve my foie gras as one of the courses for the surprise tasting menu. Oh they stop serving this at 9:30PM so make your reservation before 9 if you want this option. The staff was very accommodating and served me foie gras. It was very creamy and delish. Can’t complain. Hubby liked the rilletes thing they had on the side of the foie gras more than the foie gras. Then a mango cannelloni with crab. It was very good. The light mango flavor went the crab. The caviar provided the right amount of brininess and saltiness. Back of sea bass and squid. The squid was the best part of this dish. If they just gave me that, then I would have been happy. The sea bass was also very good. Reminded me of Chilean sea bass. It was cooked very well but a little light on the flavor. The veggies accompanying this dish were a little on the bland side. The lamb suckling that came next was good. The white meat was way better than the dark meat. I should have eaten the dark meat first. The white meat was tender, succulent, juicy and very good. The dark meat was a little tough. The sheep(maybe goat? but it didn’t taste like goat) with olives inside. I decided I’m not a huge fan of cheese in France. The orange, chocolate layered dessert was a fail for me. It was too much going on at once. The chocolate dessert was okay. Nothing too special. I think Chantecler is the weakest on desserts as I’ve had tiramisu that was better than both their desserts at a much cheaper restaurant in Nice.

Hard to explain this one folks. Once in a lifetime experience. Was invited to eat here by a returning member as a Mormon missionary when I was serving in Nice. Had no idea what I was getting into. Can’t remember much of the meal because I was so nervous. I had never been to a restaurant this nice ever. I remember ordering an orange juice(no idea why) and they came out with a glass of oj that had just been made up in the kitchen.

By far, the best meal I have had in all my life. There are no words other than the following that I can conjure up to do it justice… The Découverte menu at Le Chantecler is most definitely the way to go as nothing will disappoint as long as you have an open mind and palate. The décor and service is on a grand scale(expect at least 3 – 4 hours for this grand dinner experience.) The food and wine are magical and you will feel juxtaposed into another place and time. It is a true foodies gastronomic ecstasy. Saveurs exquise… C’est magnifique!

Par-excellence: We were at Le Chantecler for a birthday dinner and picked the Découverte menu. We had reserved it maybe a month ago for our Nice trip and I was very excited to go here. There were no disappointments. From the first moment of being greeted to our table, everything was extremely good. The place is like one of the rooms in Versailles(actually, some of the furniture was belonging to Marie Antoinette), suberp solid silver monogrammed cutlery and dining pieces, yes you feel like a royalty eating there. Découverte menu is a collection of tasting dishes that will be arranged by the chef on the occasion. When I mentioned couple items from the chantecler menu our server was really nice to also include those in our surprise to be uncovered menu. What can I say, the food was absolutely some of the best I have eaten. They really did decouverte the tastes to the maximum. We went with their wine suggestions, which was a good decision, the champagne and the red wine we had were perfectly matching. And the place was very playful too, our dishes came in silver serving plates with covers and they were presented at the same time with skilled turns and opening the silver lids! When we were done, we had been there maybe 4 hours and it was like a magical gastronomic dream. It is an experience one has to live. Mmmmm, Le Chantecler…
