A solid great value French cuisine restaurant. Food is well made, delicious, generous and the waiters and waitresses deserve an applause for their service. Dine here… You will be glad you came.

Ambiance très sympa. Cuisine excellente. Adresse a recommandée

The food was extremely good for being this close to a major tourist attraction, the Norte Dame cathedral. I had escargot for appetizer and shrimp with risotto for my entrée, both were exquisitely prepared. To top it all off I had the house white wine which was a Sauvignon Villes from Tours region. Enjoy!

Though only a few hundred feet from Notre Dame, this small place has a neighborhood feel, without any tourist splash. Friendly bilingual service, and generous portions. Not a lot of choices, but what we chose were all excellent(estouffade de veau, gambas a la Catalane, escargots, glaces assortis). Wine list well priced(house 75cl pichet less than 20 euros). Dinner for two with wine, service, and taxes came to 75 euros. Tip: the 24 euro formule gives you a main plus either a starter or a dessert: The 29 euro version gives all three. No need to go the more expensive route. Given the generous portions, a couple could each do the 24E formule, with one going for the starter and the other choosing the dessert. You each have a main and share the rest, with enough saved to cover drinks.

We’ve been there a number of times over the years — when the food was elaborate and the service attentive. It now feels like a tourist trap where they try to nickel and dime you over set price menus when you share it with your 7 years old kid.

Our first meal in Paris! We had read about this place on Unilocal and read how busy this place can get. Interestingly, when we arrived all the tables were full, however they told us it would just be about a 10 minute wait. Another American family came in after us who were also willing to wait. Then a local business man and his coworker arrived. He wanted to be seated, however the hostess explained we had been there awhile and he would have to wait. We actually got a great seat in no time at all. I had the veal stew and it was very delicious. It was extremely tender and was served in a small crock pot. My husband had the special which was duck and pasta. The flavor was great but the duck was a little tough. Definitely worth going to while in this area.

This place is the bomb. Food was delicious, and service was awesome. Atmosphere is nice and chill. Come here if you are in Paris. I tried their snail soup and duck dish, get them. little bit expensive, but this is fine dining.

Came here last year and again this year. Unpretentious little bistro with excellent food. Had the daily terrine, lamb stew and coffee, hubby had duck breast. Friendly service and an inexpensive wine list rounded off a lovely lunch.

This was a recommended restaurant from a person living here so of course we tried it. We’ve been in Paris for 2 weeks and every meal was delicious since our arrival but this was such a disappointment. My wife had the calves liver which was very undercooked and thick, not expected so it was sent back to be cooked more. When it arrived it was ok but mostly tasteless. I had the prawns and they were undercooked and disgusting, I did not send them back just couldn’t eat much of it. The accompanying vegetable was also tasteless. Ambience is tight and old pub like in appearance. Warm with no fresh air makes the place uncomfortable. We left with the feeling that we would not be back. After this bad experience we thought maybe we just ordered the wrong food. We went back for lunch a few days later. Another very bland and unexceptional meal. My wife had swordfish which was tough and had almost no taste to it. I had the sausage which was tough too and too salty. Again nothing memorable. It was just a waste of time and we would never go back. There are too many wonderful restaurants here and it is a shame that they can serve this mediocre food and remain in business. Not sure how they manage to get past 2 stars… Avoid this place.

Au Bougnat was a lovely little restaurant — dark and cozy. The food was good but it also represents what is wrong with Parisian bistro cuisine — it lacks imagination and does not sing to any of the senses. The amuse bouche was a vegetarian velouté that was creamy and a little too grainy from the starch of the pureed potato. The smoked haddock ‘carpaccio’ with arugula, crumbled egg, and balsamic was very sound. My bavette(pan fried steak, pepper sauce) came with homemade fries and it was well seasoned and perfectly medium rare; but it was also a flavorless cut of meat(I think it was flank, which has no marbling). The date had the creamy tiger prawns risotto with parmesan and fresh herbs salad. She enjoyed that but it didn’t inspire me to sample anything other than a little of the risotto, which was cooked properly. Everything was fine. But would I happily pay this much in Northern California? Never. There is a baseline of goodness that fails at greatness with the flavor profiles it reaches. 3.4 rounded down.

We were here two years ago, twice, and now we decided to come back to this little place off a side street from the Notre dame. We found this place through Unilocal and it is a gem. Really reasonably priced(for paris), and the food is delicious! It’s very good value as we usually go to pricy places and they don’t necessarily have better food or service. Large portions, u can’t really go wrong whatever you order. The waitress is decently friendly(for Paris) and they have english menus. We’ve seen locals and tourists here. Overall very please once again and would recommend it highly!

I visit France on a yearly basis to reconnect with my French schoolmates. I just returned from 7 days in Paris and the glorious French Riviera with a great tan. Au Bougnat is a favorite bistro on Lle de la Cite just a short walk from Notre Dame Cathedral. I make a point to eat here at least once for lunch/dinner during my trips back to my second home. The frog legs, veal terrine and cod fillets are simply wonderful. I love all French desserts and never walk past a patisserie without stopping in for a quick snack, but have a soft spot for crème brûlée ever since my college year here. Its perfectly made here. The French wine list is a good representation of all France’s great winemaking provinces. My personal favorites are Bordeaux cabernet franc and merlot, and Bourgogne pinot noir. I highly recommend this lovely bistro on your next trip. It is a small bistro so if you have a larger group of more than four better to make a reservation than to miss out on a great meal. Bön Appetit!

We were looking for a lunch place after visit to Notre Dame. The place looked good enough so we hopped in. I won’t be writing long discussions about the place or the foods. Just to sum it up: good service, tasted fine and was reasonably priced. The menu had multiple choices so it would please most of the clients. I can recommend for a quick lunch!

Fabulous lunch here. Who would have figured so close to Notre Dame? We both enjoyed 2 courses each, splitting my dessert. My boyfriend loved the terrine and my filet de bar was some of the best fish ever. Great service and prices fair. Would love to be dining here tonight!

Two of us went for lunch through the week at this lovely little restaurant on the Ile de la Cite and it was so good I have been back twice for dinner. The food was fantastic. Fresh and flavoursome and inventive while still seeming to be very traditional french. I have tried a variety of dishes from the suggestions of the day menu including seafood, pasta and beef and was truly impressed on each occassion. The staff were extremely lovely and helpful with the wine menu despite my minimal french. Extremely good value for the quality particularly if you eat from the menu of the day.

Great little bar on Ile de la cite and a great stop on the way to the Marais for dinner. If you get off at the cute stop by the bird market then head towards Notre Dame you will run into it. It’s a quintessential little Parisian spot for a quick glass of wine and some conversation. The room is crowded and small with standing room only but worth it for an apéritif. adjoined is a restaurant that I would like to try.

This place is amazing. And my review is coming from ambiance, food quality, service & price standpoint. We found this place on Unilocal & since it was the first night after our red eye arrival flight(and we are staying on Ile de Cite Air B&B apartment), we opted for something close. This place set the bar. And we are used to high quality dining. The staff is very efficient, welcoming & bilingual. We made a reservation & were glad we did, as it was bustling for a Sunday evening. Cozy place, the 3 course price fixe was the way to go. I had the fois gras, lamb dish & my husband the escagot & the pork shank which was amazing, the best he has ever had. I loved that offer you a wine list ‘map’ so you can pick by region & grape, even if you are unfamiliar with the winemaker. And you can order by several pour sizes other than a bottle. The crème brule was terrific. If we didn’t have so many other amazing restaurants booked here this week, I’d return. This place is a definate ’ find’ on Ile de Cite. Total meal cost with wine(¾ bottle). &2 price fixe meals was ~ 90euro($ 123). Go. You won’t be disappointed.

Day 7 — Thursday Meal — Dinner Table for 2 — relaxing last night in Paris Charming — set in the backstreets on Ile de la Cite(excuse my keyboard for neglecting the proper accent inflections). We walked in without reservations for an early dinner(around 8pm) just behind a group of locals. We paused in the front bar area — noticing a calm but buzzy scene — and were able to be immediately seated. We followed our waitress(one of two) and bent halfway over through the entry way to the dining area(yellow-striped caution tape at top for a reason, and a reason why both their waitresses appeared to be under 5 feet… minimizes the incidence of work place injury), most other tables were occupied by out-of-towners(eg: tourists). Overall, the vibe was classic with a hipster twist. Not really sure how they pulled off this balance, but it worked. That and the awesome dumb waiter I watched being used to send prepared dishes up in, and used plates down, that appeared original to the building — just made the ambiance for me! For an extremely reasonable 28 Euros(I think) per person — we each enjoyed three courses, and also ordered a lovely bottle of Saint Julien that we topped up at the end with a half pitcher of Bordeaux to extend the enjoyment through dessert. We both were served what we would call an amuse bouche in the States — but I don’t think the French use that term — it was just a small shot glass of delicious purée zucchini crème soup. Yum. Entrees(aka: appetizers): tuna tartare; and… the most AMAZING thing I had in Paris. I will be experimenting to see if I can recreate, but: braised leeks topped with a poached egg some sort of vinaigrette and I don’t know what other heaven when into this dish. D-I-V-I-N-E! Then onto a wonderful shrimp dish(presented head-on, but somehow already peeled for ease of eating) and lamb shoulder(falling off the bone)! Finishing with a cheese plate and crème brûlée, each dish we shared. I could not have had a better last supper in Paris.
