I’ll be honest: Bambou was not our first choice. We Metroed south so we could enjoy dinner at Lao Lane Xang, about which we had heard great things, but our small party of 3 grew to 9 on the way, and LLX just couldn’t accommodate us. On the way back to the Metro, I remembered having heard the name Bambou before, too, so we decided to give it a try. I was a little nervous, because many of our group were first-time foreign travelers who I feared were expecting Chicken Chow Mein swimming in garlic sauce. But the staff, though a little brusque and hard to understand(French with a heavy Asian accent, anyone?) worked hard to give us a great experience, and everyone was able to order what they wanted with very little trouble. A great failsafe: their menu consists of 100+ dishes, so when you order, the waiter writes the number on the paper tablecloth to ensure he understood correctly! All dozen dishes arrived, literally, within 10 minutes of ordering them, and we were blown away by the quality and complexity of the options. Meats were grilled and sauteed in light, flavorful sauces; soups were bursting with flavor and served with huge platters of vegetables and herbs; spring rolls came with delicious dipping sauces to compliment the noodles, greens and shrimp inside. We began shyly eating our own food, but by the end were ladling soup into empty rice bowls and passing plates of meat and rolls for tasting. I think I tried some of everyone’s dinner, and it was all fabulous!

I would go back. I only have been there once but it did seem like a combination of Tai and Vietnamese and the price was good for Paris. It was around the corner of our hotel
