AH Paris, it is easy to have a high expectation, but order some thing simple, well know like a Ceasar Salad and only truley exceptional resturants will excel. This resturant did exactly that. We stopped in for a late lunch the chicken on the salad was perfectly cooked the salad was served with anchovies, eggs and perfect lettuce and dressing. A true pleasure to eat! Combined with helpful service gave this Bistro my 4 stars.

It was our last night in Paris, we were both a wee bit tired and wanted to take our evening meal in the 6 e, near to our hotel. As promised by one Unilocaler, Mazarine was a very typical French bistro that plates lovely food and all is served with a smile. We started with escargots and a chilled Tomato gazpacho swilled down with a very nice house Sancerre. I ordered a rare rump steak served with green peppercorn sauce and really tasty chips. My lovely better half ordered a whole Dorade that was quite frankly and unexpectedly too large for one person. Steak and fish were tasty and we particularly liked the very fresh, sautéed vegetables. Our finish to this wonderful meal was fresh strawberries atop of which was a small scoop of cassis sorbet. I love strawberries served in France not only for their lovely taste but the way the look amazes me. The French strawberry’s color is so vivid and the clarity of each little seed end accentuates the lush red color of the berry. Yep, if you’re wandering around the 6th and want to take in a pleasant French evening meal without the throng of tourists staring as if to will you from your prized table in order that they might be seated, you could do a whole lot worse than Bistrot Mazarin.

Skip this pace. Typical overpriced ordinary food. Indifferent service. If you had this food in Los Angeles you would send it back to the kitchen, which of course is not an option here. Started w escargot and a tomato/pine nut salad. Average at best. Waiter never asked how things were, just plopped stuff down and disappeared. Then we each ordered a different steak. My steak was inedible. Tough and tasteless. Couldnt get beyond the first bite. When I told him, in French, it was inedible he just shrugged and left. My friends steak was at least chewable so we shared that, paid for both of course. Citron pastry laughably ordinary. At least the wine was drinkable. All for mere € 130 for two! If you are looking for another St Germain bistro w undistinguished food at prices you would recoil at in the states this is your place. Rip off joint. Oh yeah, the frites were good. But at these prices they oughtta be. .

Sometimes old classics can be a source of happiness. Bistrot Mazarin is the place in Saint-Germain where to bring your foreign friends. It’s a classic unpretentious bistrot with a certain style, a great terrace and very soft prices. All the classics are here: oysters, steak tartar, snails, entrecôte with French fries, duck cooked in different ways. I tried the snails which were very decent. The salad that my friend Bruno had was with eggplant, cheese and Bayonne ham. Then he tried the duck in wine sauce and I enjoyed a Faux-filet with French fries. The duck was a bit too raw for him but nothing happened to his stomach when he got back home. I really enjoyed my Faux-filet which was perfectly cooked and tender. You see? Nothing extravagant, tasty and generous food at affordable price in the 6th district: It’s the perfect spot to show what French classical cuisine is. And it’s open until 2 am every day! Your foreign friends will be delighted… and not so surprisingly, you too!

Bistrot Mazarin is a typical French bistro — they are quite plentiful — but that doesn’t take away from the experience. It can get crowded, but the wait is short. Beyond the din of conversation, there is little background noise, so talking while eating isn’t impossible. Good service. Bread seemed dry, but everything else satisfied. Try the escargot(13 €), which comes with a herbful parsley pesto, and the sauteed duck breast, a deliciously comforting, unfussy dish.
