Don’t even think about leaving Paris without trying this! Chez Alain is hilarious, speaks english, and performs while he creates his works of art. I had a prosciutto, cheese(oh so much cheese), avocado, olive oil, tomatoes, and lettuce. I opted out of the caramelized onions but if you’re into that Chez Alain will appreciate you more. Oh and i sampled some sort of soup with lentils ah-mazing, will definitely get it if i go again. I thought the sandwich was too big and I couldn’t eat it all but it was so good I ate it all, couldn’t stop eating it :). Thank you Chez Alain!

Waouh !!! Top !

Really delicious! The galette was particularly enjoyable — with everything. Line moves fairly quickly and it is pleasant wait.

You gotta love someone that really digs what they’re doing and you can tell this guy is all about his sandwiches(and galettes, and crepes). We were there on a Thursday(also happened to be 31.12) and had to wait a while in line, but it was well worth it. I had the vegetarian galette and my wife had the prosciutto. The ingredients were fresh and delicious — and he made it a point to mention that they are all organic. Not many options which I think is good — he knows what’s good not you, dummy, so just let him give you delicious things. He did, however, pull the baller move of shaving off bits of cheese for my wife to decide which she wanted on her sandwich. Mine galette was really good, but I also had a bite of my wife’s(sans the meat) and thought it was even better. For the English speakers(like me): You’ll miss some of the jokes he’s sharing with others in line, but no need to worry because English is no problem. Pro tip: On a nice day, grab your sandwiches and head northwest to the Temple Park and chow by the little pond there.(we figured this out by accident after wandering around aimlessly for a bit too long)

Chez Alain is definitely a force and is awesome in many ways. His enthusiasm for life, good food, and people make this worth the trip out to say hello to and get some of the best eats you will find in Paris. We got a sandwich with salmon and all the goods that come with. Today that happened to be lettuce, tomato, olive oil, caramelized onions & mushrooms, and cheese. He does add some other flourishes like lemon juice and chives as well depending on what your getting. We also got the lemon and sugar crêpe(sucre-citron) and this is serious business b/c it’s probably one of the best eats I have had. The tang from the juice but floral and slightly sweet from the zest and sugar mixed with a little bit of the bitter lemon white rind that got in there. SOGOOD. So simple yet balanced and just hit the spot.

Best«sandwich» in Paris! Get the galette and watch Alain create your masterpiece one ingredient at a time. He shaves the cheese from large chunks — get a taste of several if you’re not sure which one. The line gets quite long but it’s worth it. He’s become so popular that he now employs one or two helpers. The only challenges are finding a place to eat you sandwich and to keep it all together as you eat it. There’s so much in it that it’s tough not to lose any and you definitely don’t want to do that. And you get a small Thank You gift of small crepes when you pay. A nice touch Chef Alain!

If you’re looking for the place to get the B-E-S-T baguette sandwiches in Paris, you HAVE to come here. I visited Marche des Enfants Rouges(the small outdoor market where Chez Alain is located) before and ordered pasta from the next door Italian place, but it simply does not compare to these sandwiches! I arrived at Chez Alain around 11AM on a Sunday and was expecting a long line that I had read about, but surprisingly there were only 3 people ahead of me! I was debating getting a crêpe or a sandwich, but since I had a crêpe a couple days ago — I decided to go with the sandwich. It consisted of: — olive oil — lettuce — cheese — ham(you have 2 choices of ham to pick from) — mushrooms — onions Alain always asks his customers if they want everything on the sandwich to which I responded to by saying«Oui!» Alain is awesome & entertains his customers while making his crepes and sandwiches, hence why the line moves quite slowly. Before putting on the cheese, Alain even offered me samples of 2 different kinds to make sure that I would like them! Side note: If you want your sandwich to be toasted(WHICH I HIGHLYRECOMMEND,) expect to wait around 10 minutes more. But I HIGHLYRECOMMENDTHIS&ITISWORTHTHEWAIT. The gooey, warm cheese will warm the insides of your arteries & will leave you more than satisfied. The cost is 7.50 euros, but is definitely a filling meal. Alain even gave me a small, lemon crêpe on the side for free! He’s the best & this place is definitely a MUST-EAT when visiting Paris.

A place of fine food behind an expert in crepes and sandwiches reigns in this small outdoor food market. Nestled between smallish counter restaurants Chez Alain can be seen throwing around all variety of fresh ingredients meticulously and somewhat ceremonially with various flourishes. He masterfully adds one ingredient after another weaving together one perfect sandwich and quickly starting another. There was a point where our sandwich was being grilled and Alain disappeared for awhile… I saved the behemoth sandwich before it Hindenburged on us and was rewarded with a Pain chocolate by the man himself when he got back. The sandwich itself was of course exceptional in all ways and I will return for more of the same.

I don’t know if these are the best crêpes in Paris, but if they’re not they have to be pretty close. This place is amazing, I’m not even into crêpes and I thought these were delicious. Alain also makes the buckwheat gluten free crepes which is what I had. I got there first thing in the morning so there was no line. All the ingredients weren’t ready so Alain made me a ham, onion, cheese, and a few other ingredients crêpe, it was the best I’ve ever had. Do yourself a favor and visit Alain the next time you’re in Paris.

I thought the Cornet Vegetarien was one of the best, most fresh-tasting, and most memorable things I ate while in Paris, a wonderful combination of textures and flavors like no other. My husband enjoyed his hot pressed ham sandwich, chock full of meat, shaved cheese, soft-cooked sweet onions, and veggies. Be prepared for a LONG wait, even when the line looks deceptively short. He is a an eccentric character who likes to chat everyone up, take his time, and do his thing. He feels he has perfected his offerings, so he will not comply with additions or substitutions/removals of ingredients unless there is an allergy(one of the patrons in front of me had asked). Although my husband and I ate our entire meals and went about our day just fine, I was slightly concerned about getting food poisoning. His hygiene during the food prep process may leave some folks unnerved. No gloves, touches money, his face and mouth, then back to produce/meat/etc. in frenzied cycles with no handwashing observed. However, nobody seemed to care and the line continued to grow behind us. I am glad we took our chances! Minus a star for the really long wait, almost an hour even though I was only about the 6th person in line.

The MOSTAMAZING sandwich. Made with such passion. Chef Alain takes his time in «constructing«this sandwich, and does not rush the making, however long the queue is. It is really worth the wait ! And the crepes are also a must. Do make the effort to visit this stall in the market.

I didn’t want to leave Paris without eating a crêpe. Obviously. So my boyfriend decided to find the highest rated Parisian crêpe place and found Chez Alain, a crêpe booth located in a foodmarket in the 3rd arrondisment. Said and done, we put on our shoes and started the trek. While at the food market we had to walk around the entire place looking for Chez Alain, foolishly expecting it to have a sign stating the name(which it doesn’t). You will find Chez Alain thanks to two indicators — the crazy line in front and around the counter and of course — the genius that is Alain. Because that is exactly what Alain is — a pure genius. He stands behind his counter making the craziest crepes and sandwiches you’ll ever get to see(and taste!). He’s a crêpe-and-sandwich magician. We aren’t really fans of waiting in line for food — especially when visiting a foodmarket where there were tons of interesting looking counters with all kinds of foods around us — but we took one glance at Alain working his magic behind his counter and decided that there has to be something special about this guy and the crepes/sandwiches he makes since people are willing to stand in line to buy it. We waiting in line for like 40 minutes I think, but it was a lot of fun and so worth it. Alain puts on a show with every sandwich/crêpe that he makes and it was never boring. He interacted with everyone that waited in line and the anticipation level was through the roof. Alain is a multitasker of range — he cuts sandwiches, throws coins into a little wooden tray he’s got, he cuts up fresh ham on a ham cutter, he pours hot mushrooms into a container straight from the oven, he cuts up avocados while holding them in his hand, he throws pepper cans in the air, dances around to the music he’s got in the background, flips crepes, hands out free breadrolls. It’s just Alain and his one man show(and this is seriously half the experience — just seeing the guy at work. So much fun). We decided on a vegetarian crêpe(because it contains goat cheese and honey, not my choice), a cheese-and-ham panini(my choice) and a regular crêpe with nutella. I originally wanted to eat a crêpe but after seeing Alain at work I wanted to taste one of his sandwiches as they looked ridiculously good. While Alain was preparing our food, «Kiss» by Prince came on so he cranked up the volume and started dancing around and singing along to it — I got caught up in the moment and sang along to the song with him. The atmosphere at Chez Alain really is so much fun. Oh, and the verdict? BEST. STREETFOOD. EVER! Alain just throws all of the ingredients onto the crêpe/bread and you end up with a huge and ridiculously tasty meal. My boyfriend’s crêpe was outrageous, he barely finished it while my panini was just a gooey, super tasty piece of bread with tons of ham, cheese and tomatoes. Everything Alain uses is fresh and locally made so that’s a huge plus. There’s nothing for you to think about — bookmark Chez Alain and make damn sure you come here during your visit in Paris, especially if you’re into crepes and paninis. And be prepared to have a ton of fun!

Located in a little farmers market, I got the crêpe with sandwich fixing(les galette — fraisuere) it was fresh and hearty and hit the spot. But wow did the grilled sandwich look amazing! Contemplating going back tomorrow when he opens to try them also . I went right at 3:30 when he was closing and there was still a line! Prices are between 7 – 9 euros depending on what all you want in your sandwich.

This is a sandwich worthy of a detour! Full credit to Unilocal for finding this place. We wanted something savoury on a Sunday morning, I pulled out the app, and this was suggested. Not sure what to expect(it’s listed as a creperie), we went along and I’m really glad we did. It’s tucked into a food market and doesn’t have a big sign, so have a look at the photos so you recognise Alain and his shop. I’ve read reviews of the crepes, which sound amazing. When we arrived, the blackboard advertised sandwiches, and that’s what everyone was getting. I have no idea if we could have asked for a crêpe, but am glad we just rolled with it. We arrived at about 11:30 on a Sunday morning and there were three or four couples in front of us. Other people dart in and out to buy bread from the other half of the stall, which is separate. He clearly has his routine and pace(it reminds me of Hot Doug’s in Chicago, RIP, [long shot there is a lot of overlap with audience, but it’s the closest thing I can think of]), which means that although we waited 20 – 30 minutes between walking up and leaving with a hot sandwich, it went quickly. He chats with you a bit while taking your order, then gets the bread going, then wanders over to the previous order on the grill, then checks the onions are cooking, then has a bit of meat, then puts more on your sandwich, then has a bit more meat and checks bread, etc. When we were there, all the sandwiches started on a ciabatta roll smothered in olive oil. He asks if you want all the legumes(veggies), and I would suggest saying yes. Lettuce, softened onions, mushrooms, tomato, avocado, and some herbs. Then your choice of cheese, then your choice of meat. I went with just comte cheese, and my guy had salmon. Then they go on the grill, and sit for a while. He moves through the line while you’re waiting, and eventually you give your 7.5 euros, and are good to go. There is a park nearby if the weather is nice, and seriously, this is one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had in my life. Would have gone back today but he’s closed on Mondays. Will be back soon, and only hesitate giving such a good review because I don’t want to encourage the big lines! I would seriously recommend this place and can’t wait to try other options next time…

This place is all about Le Cornet Végétarien!!! Located in the Marche des Enfants Rouges(Farmers’ Market) in the very back, just seek out the huge line of people & this is where you’ll find the most delish sandwiches in Paris We got into line around 2pm & about 5 min later, they closed the line to anyone new arriving — we just made it! Offering meaty sandwiches on rolls or assorted breads, as well as the famous Vegetarian Crêpe, Alain makes all the sandwiches himself & they are true works of art. Our choice & an obvious crowd favorite(as this was about 95% of what he made, while we were there) was Le Cornet Végétarien — huge buckwheat crêpe, filled to overflowing with lettuce, mushrooms, carrots, sesame seeds, fennel, avocado, olive oil, chevre, lemon zest & honey… I’m not a fan of citrus in my food but when I asked him to please make my cornet without the zest, he refused — and thank goodness he did. This cornet absolutely thrived with the lemon flavor layer & I am so thankful I trusted the expert! We ended up standing in line for about 1 hr & Alain went through fields of lettuce, containers of chopped veggies, entire lemons & avocados… basically entire plantations of fresh, organic produce, whole rounds of cheese & jars upon jars of honey — things were flying all over the place but in a deliberate manner — this guy knows how to craft a masterpiece! There was fun music playing & it seemed like Alain, his sons(who restock the materials & cook up the crepes) & everyone in line were having a blast This is a MUSTSTOP for any Paris trip. A destination adventure that should not be missed… GOHERE! Go here EARLY!

A wonderful experience with such a friendly gentleman! Chez Alain helped us warm up on a cold morning by making warm crepes for us — one sweet, one savory. We had an all-organic lemon and sugar crêpe first. Chez Alain used fresh lemon zest and juice, plus a little sugar to balance the tartness. Refreshing and very tasty. Second, we had a garnie galette that featured a hearty and delicious combination of ham, cheese and sautéed onion. Very good and filling! Chez Alain is friendly, humorous, chats and jokes with you, and can speak English. When we bought a chocolate croissant, he warmed it up for us and gave us two types of other homemade pastries to try also. On top of the crepes and pastries being great, it was a delightful and warm interaction just to encounter Chez Alain! We were delighted to discover him in the market where he sets up shop.
