Chez Barbara

The food was amazing! The service was perfect! We had dinner, drinks, and dessert, and we’re happy with all choices! It is Europe, not America, friends. You will not sit down and be done within 40 minutes. Enjoy the change of pace! The owners are so welcoming and really made this our «home away from home».

We are spending 9 days in Paris and we have eaten at a number of restaurants but we chose to eat twice so far on this trip at Chez Barbara. The owner, the wait staff are excellent and really treat their guests to a wonderful experience! Take advantage if the specials, and get the wine suggestions as well. You will not be disappointed. It is off the beaten path on rue Washington about two blocks from the Champs Elysees. We might even eat here once more before we leave! Lunch is very busy, but you can get a good seat in the evening. A sure thing for a great meal.

We had a great meal and a great experience at Chez Barbara. Wines, salads, duck and filet of beef were all perfectly prepared and delicious. The owner was very friendly to us and that is not easy to find in Paris. Highly recommended.

If you’re looking for a nice spot away from the crowds and the more tourist-​y fair, this is it! The carpaccio is incredibly juicy, and served with capers and cheese that make for an incredibly full-​bodied, yet simple taste. Look to pair it with a nice red, of which they’ve got a nice selection. The salads are great, and the meat lcourses are also delicious.
Furthermore Barbara’s great! Very welcoming.

Although the reviews on Unilocal were very positive, and service was cordial, I had an awful dining experience. My wife and I found our way there easily enough, but quickly became concerned when the waiter apologized that we had to wait for a menu because they only had one that was printed in English. While we waited for the menu, we over heard the waiter explaining to the other English speaking customers that a 3 of the 8 dishes listed on the menu were not available. Once he gave us the menu, we saved him the trouble of explaining the deletions to us. To say our wait was excessive would be generous. In fact, the other table got there meals before the waiter even took our order. My wife ordered the Curried Chicken, and I ordered a Cesar Salad and the Grilled Duck with a side of green beans. We waited over 45 minutes for our meals, after waiting 30 minutes to place our orders. My wife suspects that the chef had to run to the market to purchase the duck because she saw him leave the restaurant and later return with a paper sack. When my salad arrived, we found that it had been made with iceberg lettuce (rather than romaine) that was shredded like it was for a Subway sandwich, and it was wilted and limp. When our dinners finally arrived, the presentation was somewhat like a home cooked meal… in a bad way. Although my duck was nicely cooked, and my wife’s chicken was «good», my beans were mushy, like they came out of a can. We didn’t dare stick around for dessert. Despite our waiter’s apologies for the delays and the excuses of a new guy in the kitchen, when the check arrived there was no consideration for the poor service and meals… not even a free drink. My advice, avoid this place like the plague!

Food was good but not spectacular. Portion size was very small. Everyone in our family left hungry. We had all ordered mains. The duck breast was great but the side of «salad» was just a pile of shaved iceberg lettuce. My wife had the curry which was ok but not anything special. The curry came cold. Basically just curry and rice. My daughter loved the fish and chips. Service was courteous but slow. It took an hour from the time we arrived get our food. Not a great value, I’m afraid. I’m mystified by all the rave reviews.

We had a lovely dinner here. Barbara was very sweet — the food delicious. My daughter had the pasta with grilled vegetables and it was excellent. I had the vegetable soup and a salad — a nice find since we don’t eat meat. Everything was so full of flavor. We’d definitely return.

Easily our favorite meal during our first visit to Paris — a week full of restaurant/​café roulette! Barbara is amazing, friendly & welcoming without a hint of irritation that we know only 3 words in French. She gladly engaged us in English the entire meal, and even recommended a delicious wine, Pouilly-​Fume, which is now our new favorite! The food was light, delicious & fairly priced. 2 of our party chose the fish & chips (very good with not too much breading/​greasiness) and the other 2 ordered chicken curry w/​apricot sauce. The original-​recipe chicken was her star dish and you could tell she was proud of it (and rightfully so). And here’s a LITTLE thing that, to an American in Paris, is a BIG thing: we didn’t have to beg for more water! Barbara kept it coming with a smile. On to dessert — crème brûlée & chocolate lava cake… I should have brought my stopwatch to time which one disappeared the fastest but both were perfect. Of course we tipped heavily at the end of the meal… amazing how stellar, welcoming service will cause us «tourists» to do that :) Merci beaucoup Barbara (that’s one of my 3 words)!

One of the best meals we have had here in Paris. Saw the reviews on Unilocal while walking on the champs d’elysie and decided to try it out with my wife. Best thing is is of the main street away from all the crowds. The owner Barbra, is extremely friendly and an amazing host. She welcomed us warmly. Food was out of this world I took the duck and my wife took the salmon. Best quality food so far in Paris and the prices are great too. Definitely coming back.

Searched Unilocal for a reasonably priced French restaurant near our hotel and decided to try Chez Barbara.
What a nice quiet and «small» surprise. Our hostess could not have been more attentive. They had only one menu in English so she patiently explained the choices. We started with a nice glass of wine followed by (for me) the chicken with apricots in a curry gravy. It was excellent. My wife had sliced duck cooked perfectly with a sweet and sour gravy. Both plates came with fresh baby spinach. We finished with strong coffee and crème brûlée. I can strongly recommend Chez Barbara. Good food, priced right on a quiet street.

I had the chateaux steak I asked medium rare it was purple rare. It tasted good but beware if you don’t like raw looking steak. It was very very fresh and was seasoned well, but If you’re the type who is afraid of raw looking beef then ask for medium well or something like that.
The salads and other courses were very good.!!
Worth the eat.

Unilocal brought us here after a tortuously touristy walk down the champs d’whatever… Barbara was a massive breath of fresh air amidst a city full of stuck up, rude Parisians. Barbara took her time with us and really made us feel comfortable in her restaurant. The food was on point and we were really grateful to be able to speak English and not have someone stare at us like we were from a different planet.

Very friendly and accommodating. Food was delicious. They even made an off the menu meal for our toddler. Fantastic service.

Lovely place with a great hostess. We walked in around 6:15pm having arrived in Paris around 3:00pm and feeling like it was time for dinner… lol… needless to say, we had the place to ourselves. (We later learned that in Paris 6 – 7 is when the cooks eat and dinner is usually more like 8 – 9, sorry staff!) The hostess was very sweet, spoke English, and only giggled a little that we were there for dinner so early.. No fish on Mondays as the market is closed so we had the chicken curry with apricots. Nicely cooked chicken and apricots are very tasty with curry. Service was prompt. Dinning room is very clean. The restaurant is evidently a favorite with the police, in a good way (to eat) and by the time we left there was another British family, there for the second time, and some Australians having an (early) dinner too!

The food was excellently prepared from start to finish, and the strawberry soup was a uniquely superb dessert. Very lucky to have found this cozy neighborhood restaurant.

Malgré notre arrivée un peu tardive, le patron nous accueille chaleureusement. De prime abord nous sommes marqués par son corps body buildé et nous constatons rapidement qu’il sait aussi faire preuve d’attentions à l’égard de ses clients.
Il nous précise, désolé, les plats non disponibles ce soir: sympa pour éviter de saliver sur la carte et apprendre en passant commande qu’il n’y a plus de rognons (vécu ailleurs, et moi j’aime pas être privé de rognons).
Les hamburgers nous ont ravis. Les grosses frites délicieuses.
Quand il apprend que nous développons une application révolutionnaire il nous propose de laisser quelques flyers. Sympa !
L’addition, elle, n’est pas musclée et c’est bien appréciable dans le quartier !

Tucked into a side street, Chez Barbara I’d a little hard to find but worth every effort. It offers authentic French quinine that is not overdone and overly expensive. The staff is very friendly and very helpful. Definitely off the tourist track and definitely should be visited.

Il était tard et j’avais faim. Je suis allé chez Barbara et c’était super. Un accueil chaleureux et un service très rapide. J’ai mangé un hamburger et c’était très bon. Un super rapport qualité-​prix.

Nous avons déjeuné dans ce restaurant un samedi midi. Très peu de monde donc nous avons pu déjeuner dans le calme, ce qui n’est pas chose aisée dans ce quartier. L’accueil fut sympathique et j’ai même pu effectuer un léger changement lors de ma commande (mes épinards ont pu être cuisinés avec de l’huile d’olive à la place du beurre).
J’ai commandé un hamburger, mon second convive également et ma mère une salade césar de la taille d’un plat alors qu’elle n’était proposée qu’en entrée.
Malheureusement, malgré la sympathie du serveur notre expérience fut plutôt mauvaise. Le pain du hamburger était très sec, la viande n’avait aucun goût et n’était pas cuite comme demandée et il y avait bien trop de mayonnaise, ce qui l’a rendu très écoeurant.
Quant à l’accompagnement: pour moi des épinards et pour mon convive des frites, les portions étaient ridiculement petites et les frites étaient très certainement surgelées.
Heureusement nous avons payé moins de 50 euros pour 3 ce qui est très correct.

Finally a great meal in France ! Offset of major city landmarks and delicious food. Barbara was so friendly and welcoming. You could tell the locals love visiting her and her restaurant. Highly recommend to anyone in the area. Had the homemade fish and chips that hit the spot. Best of luck with your restaurant :)

Essayer depuis peu cela fait déjà 3 fois que je suis allé. Tout simplement séduit par l’accueil de Clara la directrice, on y déguste des produits authentique et savoureux. Vue le standing du quartier c’est génial de trouver cette adresse avec un aussi bon rapport qualité/​prix. Et en plus c’est même ouvert le dimanche !

What a great customer service. We came in on a quiet day as only customers and asked to watch le tour de France. They fetched happily the projector fron the backroom and webt through quite some troyble to set it yp just for us. Also great English spoken, great service attitude overall. Very nice!

Really, really great little place we stopped into to watch a World Cup match. Barbara and her staff were just terrific with serving up drinks, and helping us with out our unserviceable French while chatting in perfect English. We decided to stick around and order food, and were stunned by how terrific it was. Not usual bar or pub fare at all. The beef carpaccio and tuna tartare were exceptional. A highly recommended stop-​in if you’re in the area.
