Hyper Cool bonne ambiance

I will never step into this bar again after doorman insisted that I kiss his hand for the fact I didn’t speak French. When arriving I opened my jacket as that is now what is expected when entering many Parisian establishments — but then was mocked for not being able to speak French. FU — freedj!

So. Two gays walk into a bar and everyone turns and stares… sounds like the start of a really bad taste joke, but this is literally what happened when the Mr and I arrived here.
After having a few drinks in the Bastille district, the Mr and I decided to walk back through the Marais area and check out one of the gay bars there — Freedj was the first that we came across.
I’m glad it was a weeknight we came as it was all really busy — and I bet it gets heaving at the weekend!
The ground-​floor had a foozball table and dance floor at the back — and there’s another dance area upstairs (which is where you’ll also find the toilets).
For quite a stylised bar, our drinks were fairly inexpensive and, aside from the initial uncomfortable stares, the atmosphere was relaxed, fun and friendly.

Definitely the best bar in the Marais! Small but great. The bartenders are excellent and extremely friendly, drinks are actually good and fairly priced. Music can be hit or miss but for the most part good and all the DJs are great and just as friendly. Only problem the white old guy at the door is a grumpy ahole!

Overall, this is a really great bar in the Marais that is worth the stop if you are interested in gay night life while in Paris. Reasonably priced drinks, interesting crowd, great music and free WiFi. If you’re there on a Sunday, head to mass and enjoy the night!

Had a great time, the drinks were reasonably priced, and tasted great, an amazing dance floor — downstairs and great music. There were actually 2 DJ’s one on each floor the one downstairs was great, the one up stairs played horrible music and she was really rude. I wish I got her name so I warn everybody, but she wouldn’t give it to me, ha. Other than her, it was a pretty good experience

Desafortunadamente no, no pude probarlo en su momento álgido, que por lo visto son las noches de los domingos. Bastante con que fui la noche del sábado, tras una fiesta de cumpleaños en casa de un desconocido (en la que hacía un calor horrible y toda la bebida se bebía sin hielo porque a los franceses no les gusta, pero eso es otra historia) y un paseo en bici de lo más temerario y un rato de callejear por Le Marais después, terminamos en el FreeDJ, un bareto de dos plantas en el que se da cita la flor y nata de los gays parisinos.
La planta de arriba es bastante más calmada, con su barra para copas y cerveza y un ambiente más distendido. Abajo, también hay barra, pero es donde está el DJ, así que hay más sensación de pista de baile. Suele estar de lo más animado, y definitivamente es el lugar perfecto para ir caldeando el ambiente.

Who knew that Sunday mass could be so fun! Freedj is a rare breed in the Paris gay bar scene. The muti-​level bar has a cool dance floor down in the cave where they hold Sunday night dance parties called La Messe, with DJs dressed as nuns, and glow-​in-​the dark rosarie beeds and candies shaped like communion wafers strewn around for people to party with. After my recent trip to Lourdes, it was the perfect tongue-​in-​cheek release from all of the heavy religious stuff I saw down there.
I had am amazing time at Freedj, here’s why:
— Literally every person that works there, from the bouncer and the barmen to the adorable coat check guy was super friendly. I’ve never seen that many smiles on nightclub staff. Truly refreshing.
— They have a fantastic happy hour with 2 for 1 beers and wine.
— There’s a glow in the dark babyfoot table on the ground floor.
— The vibe is very silly, familial and unpretentious which made for funny conversations and interactions around the bar and dancefloor (aka I made a lot of new friends.)
— This is a minor detail but it says A LOT: the coat check has an pay-​what-​you-​want system. That’s right, you can give nothing or if you’re feeling super generous, throw down a tener, it’s up to you.
To sum up. If you’re gay, go here and have fun. If you’re not, that’s ok, just grab a few gay friends and go here and have fun. I hear however that it gets really packed on Friday and Saturday so save your energy for Sunday mass instead.

I guess coming from and being used to NYC bars and clubs one could be a little spoiled when coming to experience the Paris night scene.
The Bar/​Club was small, very crowded (Friday night) and tiny where I felt totally claustrophobic especially once I went down to the dance floor. The club had an almost dangerous spiral staircase, where people would hang around and dance, as the downstairs dance floor was congested with people.
On a positive note, there was no cover charge.

I would have given this place much higher rating if it weren’t for a rude doorman that wouldn’t let me in the second time I tried to go there.
I was on vacation with some friends and stopped in there on a Sunday night with the gay friend I was traveling with. We had a blast and found many friendly people there, a great DJ, and good drinks. The two of us found dance partners both male and female and had a wonderful time. Since we had so much fun I definitely wanted to go back for a second visit before going home.
I tried to go back there on the following Friday night around 11:30 p.m. with the two women I was traveling with. The doorman was completely rude and asked us if we were lesbians. We answered honestly, even though I wasn’t sure why he was asking. There was one lesbian in the group. He decided that we were «being loud» and didn’t want to let us in. I tried explaining that I had been there earlier in the week but he didn’t listen and rudely waved us away. There was no one to complain to as he was the only person at the door. I was very upset and disappointed that I didn’t get to have a second night there. Maybe if we’d had my gay male friend it wouldn’t have been an issue (?).

Un lieu plutôt sympa pour passer une bonne soirée, selon l’ambiance, avec la salle au niveau de la rue avec un grand bar, le fumoir et le vestiaire, son plutôt techno, le 1étage les toilettes (relativement corrects) et en sous-​sol une petite salle voutée avec un petit bar et un son plutôt musiques du moment remixées.
Le personnel est plutôt sympathique.

not sure if everyone was gay here… i know i got felt up by someone… so either they thought i was in drag… or it was a straight guy. hmmm… whatever. what happens in Paris gets publicized on Unilocal!
oh ya. and they don’t want you taking pictures here… i was told to put my cell phone away when i tried to take a picture of my friends! i guess that’s why the Unilocal page doesn’t have many pics!

ouais, pas terrible C est quand même très cher! Par contre le serveur est à tomber! J y reviendrai rien que pour revoir son beau petit Et puis très gentil aussi.

Tres bonne ambiance, dans l’ensemble on né s’y sent pas étriqué. Les soirees chocolat du mercredi sont originales avec des cocktail qui sortent de l’ordinaire, a base de chocolat. allez y vous né regretterez pas.

Bar super sympa, déco peu fouillée mais ambiance lounge et sympathique. Clientèle variée et accueillante. En happy hour: un cocktail acheté (environ 9 euros), un autre (par forcément le même) offert. Idéal pour démarrer une soirée avant une boîte. A faire entre amis.
A noter: un aquarium est aménagé au fond du bar pour les fumeurs, c’est toujours bon à savoir.

Not so bad of a place actually. Two levels with a tiny dance floor in the basement. Drinks are actually not so bad and the bartenders are actually friendly here.
The music downstairs is a bit of pop and hip hop… at least the night I came. Think it is a pretty nice place.

Bar sympathique, prix très corrects (grande pression à 4EUR10, imbattable dans le quartier), baby foot au RDC et dancefloor au sous-​sol„ DJ aux deux niveaux, personnel accueillant.

Dès l’entrée, bon accueil. Invitation du portier à entrer et de nous dire que l’on circule très bien dans cet endroit. Le lieu est gay et je suis une fille en compagnie de deux amis venus de province. D’emblée bon son et bonne ambiance. Les mecs se tiennent bien (enfin de mon point de vue de fille) et rien de décadent bien au contraire. Les mecs sont charmants, souriants et tout le monde a envie de s’amuser. Manu aux platine officie et partage avec ses clients la bonne soirée qu’il nous offre. DJ super accessible et connaisseur. Même eu droit au baise-​main avant de quitter l’endroit. Le barman aussi ouvert et sympa que le reste du personnel. Au fond bar la bonne surprise: un baby foot (où des filles oui oui font un carton) et font de la place à la fois un bar de nuit, une boîte, un café enfin subtile ambiance où tout le monde peut trouver sa place. Spécial dédicace au trio de la soirée les tu-​bloque-​bloque-​bloque, t’est moche-​moche-​moche qui nous ont bien fait rire. Vous l’aurez compris, nous y retournerons avec une joie non dissimulée et avons remercié le propriétaire du lieu pour la réussite de ces mélanges.

Un bar sympa, bonne musique et une petite salle en bas pour danser. Bonne ambiance, prix normaux, bon accueil
