This little charmer was a perfect choice for a 3-day weekend in Paris — literally steps from the station and the subway and a very easy commute to any destination in the city. No question, the rooms are outdated and the service is the most basic, but that is also part of its romance — sleeping under the roof in a super comfy bed with all of Paris right outside the door — no complaints! I recommend the 2 or 3 day subway pass, and the city is truly your oyster from this location. The elevator is absolutely the smallest ever, but pack light and you can both fit in with your luggage clutched in your armshave fun!

A cheap and cheerful little hotel, this — very easily walkable from the station Gare de L’Est and within the centre of Paris itself, the Grand Hotel de Paris is somewhere it’s easy to come back to after a day’s visiting the sights and just lay your head and sleep. It doesn’t have a bar, and the restaurant is fairly poor. The elevator to the rooms wouldn’t fit two of us with one bag of shopping, and the rooms were spartan and cheap. However, it gets 3 stars for its price and central location — perfect for a weekend away but not for a week or more.
