This hostel is terrible. The room was dirty and there was no cleaning at all. There was NO lockers. The guy who was in the reception at night was very rude. The only good think was the location. AVOID.

This is a 3.5, rounded up. This hostel is located in a wonderfully quaint and lovely part of Paris, in the Montmartre area. When I first emerged from the Metro station at the Lamarck-Caulaincourt stop and stepped onto the street, I was blown away by the sight before me. This was the Paris of my imagination, with cute little streets, lamp posts, little cafes and restaurants everywhere, and staircases on every block. I was immediately charmed by my surroundings and felt incredibly lucky to be living, albeit very temporarily, in such a beautiful part of town. In addition to the lovely and picturesque district that it’s located in, the hostel is also about a 10 minute walk from the Sacre Coeur and the Place du Tertre. The area is such a nice place to explore and walk around, as it’s quiet and has fewer tourists than districts further south. I had a very wonderful time walking around the streets near the hostel and enjoyed the pretty surroundings. And since it was quieter and not crowded, it allowed me to more clearly process things and some good reflection time while wandering. As far as the amenities, the rooms could be a little cleaner. I stayed in a 6-bed female-only room, and there were lots of random old books and even a jug of old expired milk sitting on the window ledge. They should be a little more thorough with the cleaning. There was an ensuite toilet, bidet, and shower, which was convenient and adequately clean although on one of the days, the hostel staff left a mop and a bucket of dirty water in the bathroom, which seemed a little careless. The breakfast is alright too. You get a baguette, croissant, and there’s cereal, toast, jams, orange juice, and coffee and milk. It’s nice that they have it, but it’s not anything special. You’re in Paris, and you should be taking advantage of all the culinary treats, so if you really want a tasty croissant, there’s a pretty decent boulangerie downstairs where you can get delicious baguettes, sandwiches, and breakfast pastries. The staff was nice enough, the building was kind of worn and old but fine, and it’s very secure even though there are no lockers in the room. The price was one of the best values I could find for this time of year(high season, early August), and I paid 29 euros/night. I would’ve given this place three stars because overall it’s a pretty average bare-bones hostel, but what bumps it up is this: + The amazing view from some of the rooms. My room had an incredible view, comparable to the view from the Sacre Coeur. Waking up to that panorama was breath-taking. + The location can’t be beat. Montmartre is just lovely. And the Metro station is a 10-minute walk away and takes you everywhere. Even if you don’t take the Metro, you can walk yourself anywhere, which I did while I was there — just about walked myself to exhaustion! 10 hours of walking a day! + I wouldn’t say the hostel is especially conducive to meeting new people as there isn’t really a lively common space aside from a few couches by the computers in the lobby, but I lucked out and got some great roomies. I met three fantastic and funny British girls and another wonderful Canadian girl in my room, with whom I stayed up and chatted with until about 2am one night. Well, maybe I just got lucky, or maybe this place attracts some interesting people — probably a bit of both, but in any case, it made my stay that much better and pushed me to give it that extra 0.5 stars!

The word hostel puts an array of discerning travellers off when looking for accomodation. Understandably, the word Dormitory isnt for all, but most do private room with bathroom. This one does. Set in Montmartre, the area is enchanting and full to the brim of culture, art and home to a few movie sets(Amelie and Moulin Rouge to name but a few). a hop skip and a few metro rides away from Gare du Nord Eurostar base for added bonus. So very cheap, basic with eccentrically decadent decoration, but friendly. Breakfasts are basic also but I’ve heard that thats the regular morning snack even in the 5 star hotels. Watch out for the unusual opening hours — they close their doors at 11 — 4pm and a lock out is at 2am. Paris on a budget can be done
