Oh gosh the LC. This place was a gift and a nightmare at the same time. We received these meal cards from the LC from our school. This was a considerate thing on behalf of the program coordinators, but also an inconsiderate thing to assume we would want to eat here everyday. (This is an unrelated, venting sidenote, so read at your own expense: Why would we complain about having meal cards? Aren’t we grateful? Yes and no. It’s great that the LC is just a minute’s walk from our class, so that if we were in a time crunch, and didn’t want to spend money, the meal cards were a perfect solution to a broke student’s wallet and growling belly. Now here’s where I didn’t like it. One– our classes were let out by 12p, and we were free to do what we want after; so why the heck would you make us eat there? Two– the cards, valued at about 6 or 7 euros were something we apparently paid for as part of our program costs(of course they negotiated some price for buying such cards for all of us) so we would be throwing money away if we chose to not use the cards. Three– the sandwiches might have been edible once. Not 5 days a week. Everything they offer there is cold, and preprepard, and it was a nightmare to think we had to eat that everyday for lunch in the beautiful amazing city of Paris. The area around Bonne Nouvelle offered so much variety and reasonably priced lunchtime meal items that it really was a waste to eat just the cold subs or sad wraps at the LC. Lastly, four– the LC has a expiration time. If you weren’t in the insanely long lunch rush line by 12:30p, forget it; there’s no chance you can get something remotely appealing to look at. Once they run out of food, that’s it, they won’t make anymore. So you’ll be stuck with that dodgy looking something-salad in a roll, or just have to come sooner next time. I also remember the vegetarians in our programs being quite out of luck as they happen to have afternoon class, and by the time they arrived, nothing they could eat would be available, and they wouldn’t make an alternative veggie-friendly option for them.) Okay, sorry to get sidetracked there. I obviously have a love/hate relationship with the LC. It’s something I had to do for 3 weeks; pick up the least upsetting menu item and take it home for dinner so that I could try and make an effort to see more of Paris then a glorified Subway.(Or, we’d just give our cards away to the business lunchers in line). The staff were efficient and friendly enough. But if I see another LC anywhere again, I might just scream. It’s a good idea I suppose as far as a sandwich chain goes, but I just had too much of a croissanterie overload to make a fair review.
