La Rôtisserie d’en Face

We came for dinner recently and had a nice experience. However, things quickly went downhill for my BF since he got food poisoning the next morning. It basically put a damper on our weekend. I’m not sure what it was, but we know he got sick from dinner because we had a small breakfast in our airbnb and he didn’t eat anything else…
I had the frog legs to start and they were delicious! Never thought I would eat frog legs, but I did and they were so good. You do have to work to get the meat and it’s pretty boney, but it’s still good! My main dish was the scallops from Brittany and I thought they were ok. (My boyfriend thought they were a bit rubbery and may have been what made him sick). The leeks that came with the dish was the star IMO… And for dessert I had chestnut liegeois. I thought it was ice cream, but I guess it wasn’t. It reminded me of ice cream though and you could taste the chestnut flavor.
My bf had the foie gras (good), fried whole sole (delicious, but kind of a pain to have to debone the fish on the plate while you eat), and fromage blanc for dessert. I had a taste of the dessert and it was nice and light although you can still taste the cheese. (He thought this also might have been the culprit)
We reserved our table via an app and we got 20% off our bill because we reserved the first table available during dinner service.
The service was good, the food was also good, but the whole food poisoning thing really brings down my review. Hopefully this was an one-​off event and this establishment won’t make anyone else sick…

The food was far below what we had expected. Seated promptly but then the service was almost non existent. I can live with bad service but we left before desert we were so annoyed. With so many good experiences in Paris, they sat on their laurels. My wife and I ordered the same dish yet it could have come from 2 different locations. The couple next to me, the husband was spitting out buckshot out of his free-​range meat.

The service is wonderful.
I know I was committing a faux pas by asking if we could be done with the service in 30 – 45 minutes but with a NON-​FOODIE other half, a whiny elderly and a fussy little one, I was forced to make that request. Happily (for my tummy), they accommodated. We were there for the lunch service.
The breakdown:
— Chilled pea soup
— Iberico ham with melon
— Fish
— Chicken
— Duck
The bad:
— the ham appetizer was literally ham and melon
— the chicken was ok. After an über meal at Le Comptoir de Relais, this chicken tasted ok
The good
— The zucchini egg custard was the bomb. It outshined the duck which was a little tough and gamey
— The fish was fresh and interestingly flavored with cumin. The spaghetti zucchini that came with it was good too
— The sauces on the duck and chicken were really good
— I can’t compliment enough of how awesome the service was. When my mom stepped out to entertained the little one, the server came and cover her food. «So it won’t be cold». When I was too fully to eat the dessert and also wanted to take some of the chicken and potatoes for the little one to eat later, they scrambled to find means of taking my food. Apparently people don’t really get their food to go *shamefaced*. The host found a small container for the chicken and then made an origami container with the paper placemats for the dessert

Super cute place. Entrees were excellent. We started with the salade de haricots verts, the chilled pea and asparagus soup, and the tourrine of chicken liver and foie gras. The tourrine was my favorite dish of the entire trip to Paris. Our plats consisted of the beef, chicken, and duck. All were excellent, but my favorite was the chicken, as it was super tender, juicy and flavorful, and the mashed potatoes that came alongside it were delicious! The desserts were alright… good, but I could probably pass on them the next time around. The service was excellent, as everyone was extremely friendly. I would definitely return again on my next trip back to Paris!

My in-​laws have been taking us to all their favorite dining spots. La Rotisserie, on the left bank was excellent. Buzzing with locals and tourists, the ambiance was fun and friendly. The service was excellent and the food was really nice. My wife and mother in law had the lamb chops, my father in law had the duck and I had a perfectly cooked steak, sans the bernaise sauce (gotta save somewhere). Had lots of fun with 6 woman from Denmark celebrating 25 years of playing bridge together. Definitely a good stop on the food tour.

Bistro a l’accueil parisien c’est à dire inexistant, tables serrées jusque devant l’escalier qui mèné à mèné cave… les frites, un comble que j’ai mangé était molle et le bœuf dur…
Ce restaurant semble survivre grâce à Jacques Cagna qui n’oubliait pas d’aller faire un tour en traversant la rue avant que son grand restaurant d’en face autrefois étoilé né ferme… Pourquoi?

Went to this restaurant on our last night in Paris based on Unilocal reviews. We also loved the chicken and the Pork cooked on a plank. Great food, service, and modern style dining room. Wines were reasonably priced. Seemed like more locals then tourists. Lovely experience.

We came to La Rotisserie from a recommendation from a friend. They were friendly even before we walked into the restaurant. We called very last minute to push back our reservation and they did it without hesitation. The restaurant was spacious and not too crowded on a Wednesday night. We were given a complimentary glass of champagne as we were on our honeymoon. Our appetizers were great-​the frog legs and the mussels were fantastic. Our main courses-​the chicken and the scottish salmon were superb. They really do know how to do chicken! Can’t remember the dessert name, but it was a chocolate mousse that we immediately devoured. I would definitely recommend this to any friend visiting Paris.

Fantastic food, wine, and service. Chicken and veal are divine.

This restaurant was recommended to my family and I by our tour guide. It was definitely very good. Their famous chicken was tender and the veal had a very nice sauce. My dad did not like his veal as much as my pork dish. I must say, the pork was quite good and tender. Its a nice restaurant off of the beaten path but expect to see some tourists as well as locals. I would recommend a reservation if you are eating late. It filled up fast after we got there early with no reservation.

Magical, delicious, warm and hospitable! Everything I had was a delight from the creamy lemon vinaigrette with lamb’s ear and artichoke; roast chicken and mashed potatoes and then this desert from heaven called a vacherin. OMG! Best meal in Paris yet!

Parfait
Nous avions choisi ce restaurant pour une sortie en amoureux et nous avons été conquis. La cadre est très agréable, la cuisine est bonne et le service est parfait. Nous avons été très bien accueilli, conseillé sur les plats et les vins. On a pris le temps de s’occuper de notre commande, nous étions enchanté. Nous y retournerons avec plaisir.

Une bonne adresse
Un bon restaurant de la rue Christine: j’y ai déjeuné plusieurs fois et c’est là que je trouve mon poulet fermier-​purée de pommes de terre maison préféré. Sans oublier le fondant au chocolat ! Et le service est tout à fait à la hauteur. Un conseil: appelez pour réserver, car il y a souvent beaucoup de monde.

My husband and I really love to try small plates at multiple restaurants when we’re visiting a city. This gives us a chance to try more than one place at every meal. But in Paris, they’re not cool with this. I’m pretty sure it’s because their tip is already factored as a percentage of the bill.
This restaurant was the only one we encountered in Paris that was happy to accommodate our small plate preference. They were very nice and very respectful. The ambiance of the restaurant was romantic and intimate. The service was impeccable. Our food was divine. We ordered the pâté and a salad, shared both and a dessert. We also ordered champagne.
The only reason that I took off one star was that the food was a little over-​priced. Delicious, yes, and maybe we were paying for the extra-​attentive service. But It’s a bit overly-​pricey for what you get.
Besides the price, it’s a gem of a restaurant.

Really, really impressive. Particularly nice: Raviolis stuffed with beef cheek ragout. Irish Hereford steak. Tartelette tatin. Service.

Décor and service were excellent. Food was uninspired. Five in our party, three were unhappy with main courses. Overall, plates were messy; care was not taken with presentation.

We decided to just wonder around one night and pick some local place for dinner. I am sure glad we ended up here. The waiter and all the staff were very friendly and the atmosphere was just perfect. I had a lovely salad followed by the roast chicken.
When I am in Paris again (hopefully soon) I will go back.

We have eaten here several times. It is directly across the path from Relais Christine where we have stayed on several trips. Very French cooking but with a homey feeling. A little more casual than most restaurants in the area. Everything we have had here has been scrumptious.

Très décevant
Déçu ! Si l’accueil et le service furent corrects, pour le reste c’est une grande déception: A la carte des classiques, pourquoi pas peut-​il être agréable de retrouver des plats simples et conviviaux? Mais ici c’est la banalité et la facilité qui l’emporte: assiette de saumon sans intérêt, poulet trop cuit et purée nature, Paris-​Brest sec, carte des vins atone (vous trouverez la même sélection pour moins de 15 € par bouteille dans toutes les chaînes de cavistes ou foire au vins d’hypermarché). 140 € à deux pour ce menu dans une salle extrêmement bruyante: si vous faites part de votre déception, on se contentera de vous répondre «il fallait le dire avant !». Une maison qui s’est endormie sur ses lauriers.

La Rôtisserie d’en Face a un nom trompeur. Non vous né viendrez pas ici pour manger du poulet rôti. En effet, le tenancier de cet établissement n’est autre que le chef Jacques Cagna qui tient aussi un autre restaurant éponyme juste en face.
Véritable institution dans le Quartier Latin, le restaurant sert un excellent filet mignon de porc rôti, sauce au gingembre frais et citron vert. Un vrai régal pour les papilles. Mais les prix de ce restaurant né sont pas celle d’une quelconque rôtisserie de quartier…

Dans la grande tradition française
Cet établissement pour lequel il faudrait du Carbone 14 pour le dater, offre un havre de bien-​vivre dans une rue tranquille de Saint-​Germain des Près, à deux pas des rues bondées de touristes qui découvrent la cuisine française (ou grecque) dans des estaminets moins reluisants. En déjeuner dit «d’affaire», nous avons opté pour le menu à 2 services (entrée + plat)à 28 €: Saumon fumé norvégien de bonne facture ou douzaine d’escargots frémissants, suivi d’un excellent chou farci au canard de barbarie ou d’un beau faut-​filet à la cuisson bien maîtrisée. Carte créative et bien élaborée. Service attentif et professionnel, nappage en tissus, cadre sympathique, patron qui connait ses clients de quartier. La demi-​bouteille d’eau minérale gazeuse est à 5 € les 50 cl, quand même, la demi-​bouteille de Graves 2006 «Château de Cardaillan» est à 21 € … mais là où le bât blesse, c’est l’expresso final à 4,10 € pièce (Réveille-​toi Lavazza, ils sont devenus fous !). Dommage de clôturer sur une telle fausse note après un parcours parfait. Et la baisse de la TVA dans tout ça?

Rotisserie d’en face
Avec sa formule à 36 euros (entrée + plat), on est tenté. Mais je connaissais ce restaurant depuis de nombreuses années, mais là, c’est évident: la qualité a baissé. Le service est empressé et efficace, mais la qualité n’est pas au rendez-​vous. La présentation pourrait être plus soignée, les plats sont trop salés, et la cuisine pas très inventive. La carte a du choix, mais nous étions tous très déçus, surtout quand on a connu le Jacques Cagna d’antan.

Le cadre est chic et feutré, la cuisine reste d’un bon niveau. La note est assez salée mais le ballet des serveurs justifie le prix. Excellent endroit pour un tête à tête.

A éviter absolument
Mon mari et moi même voulions dîner à Saint Germain, et nous avons eu l’idée d’essayer la rôtisserie de Jacques Cagna. Quelle déception ! Une addition très salée pour des plats qui n’étaient pas beaucoup plus recherchés que des plats de bistros de quartier. Nous avons été très mal servis par des serveurs fatigués, qui pour né pas avoir à revenir à la table pour nous faire goûter le vin, nous ont pratiquement arraché notre verre d’apéritif des mains. Le décor froid du restaurant né nous a pas aidé à oublier le peu d’enthousiasme des serveurs à nous servir, et nous avons donc écourté le dîner au bout d’une heure.

Pour ceux qui n’ont pas les moyens de se payer le vrai resto de Jacques Cagna, il ya la rôtisserie d’en face qui est comme l’indique son nom beaucoup plus «populaire» mais qui reste pourtant très cher alors même qu’on y mange du poulet /​purée (certes très bon mais on né peut pas faire plus bâteau) !!!
Sinon l’ambiance y est agréable avec cependant une moyenne d’âge très élevée et une clientèle «du quartier”(c’est pas peu dire) !!!

A la baisse
Cela fut il y a dix an une de mes adresses préférées de St Germain. J’y suis retourné il y a quelques jours et le temps a fait son oeuvre. La carte est devenue d’un mauvais rapport qualité prix et le cadre est très froid. Le poulet étatit froid et la purée sèche. Le service reste pro, même si l’ambiance n’y est plus (15 couverts en salle) !

Oui mais…
La cuisine est impeccable et exquise dans sa simplicité: le poulet purée né sera pas le même que celui de chez Flunch. Le tout dans un décor type bistrot sympathique, dans un quartier qui né l’est pas moins. Le service est jeune, attentionné (c’est la première fois qu’on me demande si on peut m’enlever le pain après avoir fini le plat, par exemple) sans être coincé (petites réparties sur la prise d’un éventuel digestif avec l’un d’eux), j’aime. Mais… La clientèle de vieux beaux de Saint-​Germain qui minaudent dès qu’ils voient Jaaaacques. Ce même Jacques qui fait le tour des tables sans s’arrêter à la mienne (ok je né suis pas un habitué, et je n’ai pas les moyens ni l’intention de le devenir, et ça se voit, mais tout de même, c’est vexant: on peut être «pauvre» et aimer la bonne chère). Une addition un peu salée (le poulet purée a beau être délicieux, ça reste du poulet purée). A noter aussi: le restaurant doit être agréablement côté par Zagat, vu la forte présence de touristes attirés par le grand chef et par le quartier… A essayer quand même.

Bön mais bruyant
Troisième restaurant de Jacques Cagna, après l’Homonyme et l’Espadon bleu, sans doute le plus décontracté des trois. Cuisine bien française, effectivement, mais remise au goût du jour, ce qui assure un bon compromis tradition et modernité, et qui en fait l’originalité. C’est plutôt réussi, mais la taille des portions varie beaucoup d’un met à l’autre. Pas si grand que ça, et souvent bien rempli, il vaut mieux, effectivement réserver. Beaucoup de touristes, surtout en cette période estivale. Qu’ils se rassurent, les subtitilités de la carte sont bien traduites dans une carte en anglais, qu’un serveur m’a donnée pour choisir mon dessert… À part ça, service efficace et plutôt attentif. Seul point un peu génant, le niveau sonore: c’est souvent plein, la salle est assez longue, du coup, une espèce de brouhaha règne et j’ai parfois eu du mal à entendre ce qui se disait à ma table ! À l’arrivée, une expérience agréable, pour un peu plus de 60 euros par personne (menu à 42 + suppléments sur certains plats, vin, grande volvic).
