Nice street for foodies to stroll down. Lots of delis, cheese shops, bakeries and specialty stores. Very expensive but high quality foods. Worth an hour of your time.

Not sure when it happened but Rue Cler is now a tourist hot spot. You’re just as apt to run into an American as a French. That said, it suits me just fine. Think of it as experiencing Paris, on training wheels. You can’t totally crash and burn because most of the merchants can speak decent English. But you can experience a French market place, with bakeries, cheese stores, produce marts and many restaurants lining the street. There’s even a little mini-mart where yo can pick up convenience stuff on the cheap.

Seeking French wine, fresh baked bread and pastries, aged cheeses, fine chocolates, or fresh meat and produce? Look no further! Rue Cler is a darling cobble stoned street lined with flower shops, produce markets, bakeries, fromageries, and wine stores and sandwich shops. The street is pedestrian friendly so you can lazily stroll through the street while purchasing treats for the perfect Parisian picnic! The street is cute, but it is a bit of a tourist trap. I would not dine at any of the restaurants along this street since they all seem to cater to the tourists. Instead purchase some French treats and walk over to the Champ de Mars park near the Eiffel Tower for a beautiful view and picnic!

Visited: September 2012 The hotel(Hôtel de La Motte Picquet) that we had stayed at was located around the corner from this street. We really enjoyed eating and people watching on Rue Cler Rue Cler is a small cobblestoned street with a market of flowers/fresh fruit/& vegetable stands, chocolate, cheese, wine, meat shops, restaurants and Patisseries. It is pedestrian friendly(we only spotted a few automobiles on the street that seemed to belong to the vendors). I would suggest taking a long walk down Rue Cler as you will discover a lot of cool shops/side streets that branch off of Rue Cler. Sure, this area is touristy.(the Rick Steves effect). At the same time, Rue Cler runs through residential neighborhoods. The vendors are authentic and still cater to the locals. We enjoyed seeing the locals walking their children to school, grocery shopping and going about their daily lives. Rue Cler is ideal for picking up wine/cheese/sandwiches to take to a picnic on the Champ de Mars(in walking distance) We really enjoyed Rue Cler. If you are in the area, stop by.

This is a cute little strip of shops situated near the Eiffel Tower, which makes it ideal for picking up picnic supplies. The fromagerie(smartly named«Fromagerie») offers every kind of cheese I wanted, as well as assortments for those too lazy to pick and choose. Pick up a bottle of wine,* stop by the boulangerie and you’ve got yourself a party. We also grabbed a whole mess of wonderfully ripe cherries from one of the many well-stocked fruit stands, and I had a fabulous time squinting with one eye and pretending I was sticking cherries on top of the Eiffel Tower. You’re acting like I’m a weirdo right now, but you just wish you had thought of it first. ____________ *The Champ de Mars signs claim there is no drinking allowed, and we believed them until we saw that literally every single person in the entire park was drinking. I think it’s one of those laws that’s on the books just so they have a reason to kick you out if you turn out to be an asshole. Don’t be an asshole.

Love the street! Would have given it 5 stars if it wasn’t so touristy. The cheese stores were fabulous. The wines stores, boulangerie, patisserie, ice cream shop(they shape each scoop of ice cream into a rose), flower shop, produce markets, chocolate stores, and outdoor cafes were very French. Great for picking up items to do a picnic at the Eiffel Tower. The wine stores will package each bottle with bubble wrap to be stored in your luggage to bring back to the US(they all made it back without breaking). They all speak English and were very friendly.
