Le Cette is a sophisticated French bistro, offering casual chic food: poor-man dishes such as beef cheek or lamb shoulder, but served on white cloth and priced at Eu 28. Everything we tried was well executed, my lamb was really enjoyable, but we both thought the beef cheek was a little on the heavy side(drizzling vinaigrette over an already rich meat was overkill). This was surprising given that the chef is Japanese, so we were expecting a bit more restraint and subtlety. Seating next to the kitchen through hole, we could hear him yelling in Japanese during service, which was pretty funny(he wasn’t disturbing the dining room at all, though). They have a killer complimentary baguette too(we both thought the bread tasted like cheddar. Nice but very unexpected and inexplicable). The décor is modern and sober, service was nice. Outstanding wine selection at reasonable prices. The only negatives were the dessert list: only four boring choices, at incredible prices: Eu 10 for a freaking crème caramel, Eu 14 for a flourless ganache chocolate«cake». So you guessed it, the second negative is the price point, which is pretty steep(most apps are Eu 14, entrées are around 28, desserts 10 and up). But they have a much more affordable lunch menu, so that may be the way to go. Overall, I would not come from the other side of Paris just for it, but if I am in the neighborhood, this is the go-to spot(along with Le Cornichon) in Montparnasse, which is infamous for its tourist traps.
