Le Comptoir du Commerce

Have the cassoulette. Any cassoulette. Fantastic! Reasonably priced, nice atmosphere and the staff works pretty hard to make sure you’re happy — but aren’t obtrusive. Did I mention that you should have the cassoulette? Tartines are good too, if you’ve had four cassoulettes in the last week. Yum!

Food was fantastic and service was very prompt. My wife got the French onion soup (not overly salty at all) and the chicken mushroom pasta. I got the duck confit. They were al really good portions and delicious. We ended with the ice cream puff covered in melted chocolate which was amazing and two espressos. Decently priced!
Would definitely recommend this to friends. Don’t believe the idiots that just grabbed «a coffee» and said the «ambiance» isn’t very good, just to give it 2 stars. It’s a restaurant. I’d advise eating something before you review.

The food was quite good. Satisfying croissants, well-​constructed omelettes, good coffee, good jam, everything we got was good. But the service was rushed and they messed up our order, and then we’re really passive aggressive about fixing it.

This little brasserie looked to be one of the more appealing ones along Rue Montorgueil. Many of the others I passed had too many people drinking and too few people eating.
This one had a ⁵⁰⁄₅₀ mix of both people eating and drinking. So inside I went.
Everything was fine. The interior was fine (see my pic). The service was fine (even though one girl ran the entire show). Even the food was fine. Although my foie gras with potatoes was slightly a bit greasy.
The people sitting on the right and left of me were both Americans but not everyone was a tourist. There was a good amount of Parisians dining inside as well.
By the way, if you get a chance to go to this street, Rue Montorgueil, I recommend it. It’s a little off the beaten path but if you go, you’ll find a lot of eateries, pasteries, cheese shops, butcher shops, etc. Stohrer, the oldest pastry shop in Paris, is located a few doors down from this restaurant.

I came here for lunch with some friends and we had the pleasure of eating outside. The set up of the restaurant was really quaint and a pleasurable experience. I ordered the TRADITIONAL TARTAR with Fries/​Salad. The tartar was delicious and complimented the salad and the fries really well believe it or not. The dish had many types of herbs/​spices and the garlic just gave it the extra umph that it needed. Come try this restaurant!!! ENJOY!

Difficile de faire son choix parmi les nombreux bistrots de la rue Montorgueil
On décide d’aller au Comptoir du Commerce, la carte est longue et les prix corrects.
Ayant envie d’une salade fraiche, j’opte pour la salade végétarienne. Composée de légumes grillés, elle est pas mal même si 15e la salade (surtout composée de 50% de feuilles de salade) c’est un peu poussif.
Mon amie prend une cassolette, une sorte de gratin, pas mal du tout!
Je pense que je prendrais plutôt ca la prochaine fois quand j’aurai une plus grande faim.
En dessert, grande déception quand on nous annonce qu’il n’y a plus de tiramisu au speculoos! Du coup on se rabat sur le crumble a la framboise, un peu trop acide a mon goût.

Besser als viele Varianten derselben Bistro-​Gerichte, die wir in anderen Läden in dieser Straße bekommen haben (welche jetzt übrigens auch in vielen Reiseführern als Geheimtipp zu finden ist); dafür sicher auch teurer, aber mit ebenso nettem, wie flinken Service.

Petit restau situé sur montorgueil qui propose salades, plats tradi et vins (je suis fan). L’accueil est super et les desserts sont tous faits maison !!!
Le moelleux au chocolat est sublime !
Par contre si vous souhaitez prendre l’assiette mixte, elle est un peu juste pour 4 personnes.

Accueil très agréable, prix corrects et plats tout à fait honorables ! Les plats sont autour de 15 17EUR, j’ai pris une cassolette, vraiment très bonne !

J’ai trouvé l’endroit assez sympa.
Une carte classique de ce genre de bistrot et des plats ok, comme d’habitude dans ce genre de bistrots.

I popped in to Le Comptoir du Commerce for a coffee on a rainy Wednesday a little while ago. The (dry) open tables and the «service continu» sign are what really drew me in. Although I didn’t eat, the menu looked fairly extensive and traditionally French. The service was friendly and prices were decent. Atmosphere is lacking, but for a coffee or quick bite it gets the job done. Service was exceptionally friendly.

My husband and I just happened to walk in this place after the place we wanted to go to was booked for the night, and we were very happy with our experience. The restaurant was small but looked really cool inside with wood panneling on the walls and hip lighting. Their cheese plate was the best we have had in our three nights in Paris with about 5 or 6 different types of cheese. The duck confit was also very good although it was fatty, but that is to be expected with duck. We also loved the fondue chocolate dessert. The waiter was also very attentive compared to the typical waiter in Paris.

What a disappointment! On a whim I brought a Belgian visitor to this brasserie thinking that with the place always packed it couldn’t be bad. The waiter was so brisk and hurried that he mistook my order of a salad poulet (chicken salad) for a poulet normade (chicken cutlet in cream sauce). When the dish arrived, I told him it wasn’t what I ordered and he looked at me in total disbelief. I was starving and my guest was in a rush so I accepted the dish anyway. No apologies were offered. The chicken was overcooked and heavy on the sauce, not exactly the light meal I was striving for.

Situé en plein quartier Montorgueil, ce petit restaurant plein de charme fait penser à un petit bistrot. Pour le quartier, les prix sont abordables, la cuisine de qualité, le service est agréable. Bref une petite adresse ou on peut y diner un soir en se baladant dans le quartier

J’ai testé le comptoir du commerce un mercredi soir en terrasse. Le cadre est très agréable: la rue Montorgueil est évidemment idéale pour cela, et la déco du restaurant est très chaleureuse, tant en façade qu’en intérieur. Les boiseries et les banquettes donnent à l’endroit un petit air de début de siècle teinté de modernité, qui n’est pas désagréable ! Les tables sont peut-​être un peu serrées en revanche. Il faut dire que la salle n’est pas bien grande… Le service a été rapide et souriant, et quoique l’on m’ait dit que ce n’est pas toujours le cas, je n’ai personnellement rien eu à y redire.
J’ai pris une assiette italienne: rien de très original en soi, mais les produits étaient superbes, et le plat copieux. Une mozza de bufflonne délicieuse, du jambon de Parme ni trop sec ni trop gras, des légumes fondants et gouteux… Et alors le dessert !! J’ai pris un café (très) gourmand: expresso accompagné d’un assortissement de trois petits desserts, différents pour chacun, ce qui permet en plus de partager (j’ai trouvé cela très malin !). Marquise au chocolat, tiramisu speculoos, fondant au chocolat, crème brûlée, crumble… Tout est fait maison et vaut largement le détour !

We came here on a recommendation of the concierge at the hotel. It’s a tightly packed restaurant where you and your table neighbor are literally touching. I ordered the duck confit that I thought was fantastic. We also sat next to some really nice people. Overall, there’s a lot of hustle and bustle and most of the business is made of locals. It was obvious we were tourists and we still had a great experience.

Voici un resto que je fréquente avec beaucoup de plaisir après les bons spectacles du Sentier des Halles de la toute proche rue d’Aboukir. Même tard on arrive toujours à dénicher une petite table pour boire un verre en terrasse ou en salle pour dîner.
Le choix des vins est avisé à noter l’excellentissime 1ères côtes de Blaye du domaine du Queyrou et les cassolettes à 14EUR sont copieuses et goûteuses et satisfont pleinement toute faim raisonnable.
Une bonne adresse pour manger et boire simple et bon.

Dégueulasse et cher… Plat du jour + verre de vin + café = 23EUR…
Steak d’espadon pas cuit et plein de gras/​gélatine… Verre de Bourgogne (ordinaire) rempli au ¹⁄₃ à 6.2EUR…

Le Comptoir du Commerce, une brasserie située dans le quartier de Montorgueil offre à boire et à manger dans une ambiance très conviviale. Il faut surtout profiter de la terrasse ! A l’intérieur, il y a beaucoup de bois pour créer une ambiance chaleureuse.
J’ai beaucoup aimé le choix original des salades surtout la suédoise. Les planchettes sont également appétissantes. La carte propose quelques options qui peuvent plaire aux végétariens, mais, pour la plupart les plats sont à base de viande (bœuf, canard, veau, poulet ou poisson). Ce restaurant est une bonne adresse pour bien manger.

Basic. And delicious. Huge bowls of onion soup are comforting and perfect for warming up. Endive, walnut and blue cheese salad is awesomely scrumptious too. Rounding out the menu are the likes of Croque Monsieur, frites and plenty more Parisian standards … don’t expect anything fancy but if you’re looking for a quick bite (or relatively quick — this is still Paris after all) in a cosy setting, Le Comptoir du Commerce cannot be beat. The buzzingly Frenchy Rue Montorgueil location is brilliant too.

Location! Location! Location!
That’s the key to business, or so they say. And that’s what Comptoir du Commerce has going for it. Situated where rue Montorgueil ends and rue des Petits Carreaux begins, the restaurant is at one of the lively corners of the lively Montorgueil district, which now thanks to being featured in Lonely Planet and New York Times articles is the third most visited street in Paris.
Fitting, then, that the Comptoir serves food that I would only serve my worst enemy. Or, at the same level, mouth breathing Anglophone tourists with no sense of voice modulation.
So it’s with extra bitterness, then, that my experience with this anal cavity of a restaurant came when taking an old American friend out for a casual dinner. Worse so that he wasn’t a mere visitor to Paris, but a law student studying here. Neither my worst enemy, nor a clueless tourist… yet we still ate here.
Or something akin to eating. My steak, ordered à point (medium rare) came out fully cooked and resembling the rubber sole of a well-​worn Doc Martens boot. My wife’s duck? It may as well have been from KFC. Yes, I know KFC doesn’t serve duck… that’s the point! And the coup de grace? My friend’s vegetarian appetizer and vegetarian dish were… the same salad. Only in different sizes!
Now that last part may be (barely) forgiven. Vegetarians are few and far in between in this land, and procuring vegetarian food outside the odd Indian joint or posh fast food lunch spot is like pulling teeth. But any waitstaff resembling a professional would have alerted us to the fact that the two dishes were, in fact, identical.
But again, it’s all about location, location, location. So if you want a beer or Coca Cola (I dare not say coffee, as that requires preparation), this is an adequate place to sit on the terrace and enjoy the buzzing Montorgueil atmosphere.
Then again, there are at the very least 20 other terraces on which to do that on this one stretch of street alone.

Nous trouvions cet endroit vraiment très sympathique jusqu’à ce qu’un ami nous rejoigne en terrasse pour dîner: interdit pour lui d’approcher sa chaise de nous, idem dans l’autre sens, le serveur nous a mal parlé et notre ami a dû remettre sa chaise 10 cm en arrière: il était dans le chemin ! Je pense que les serveurs né sont pas forcément faits pour le service.
