The very first time I ate here was in 2009. I was brain-dead from hours in the Louvre and I’m sure I just stumbled out and went to the closest place. The experience wasn’t a bad one — but not particularly memorable. I recently took some guests here as the arc of our day had not brought us where we wanted to be — or rather — they weren’t hungry when I wanted them to be and hence skipped a group of my favorite restaurants. With a bit of trepidation I entered this very obvious tourist trap and didn’t get burned too badly. The food was decent, and my guests got an introduction to the classic croques monsieur/madame. Not bad for an unplanned stop.

We stopped by for drinks after walking out of the Louvre Museum on a rainy day. We were immediately found a quite table on the back of the establishment. The drinks were pricy as expected. My wife had to pay 0.20 euros to use their bathroom, but our surprise was at the end when our waiter asked for the Tip. Even though it said on their menu and bill that service was inclusive, he still fought for it and said that we had to leave a tip for him. We have been to Paris many time and had drinks and many places and it was the first time that this happened to us. This is not the way to do business!

Expensive drinks. Grumpy owner and waiter(not all of them, just ours). And even paying customers have to pay 0.20 euro to go to the bathroom. No … not that great. The drinks I get, the toilets … not so much.(and no it is not that there is a bathroom lady there, there is nobody!)

This is a small café within walking distance to the Louvre Museum. We stopped by for a quick lunch before heading to the Notre Dame. The location is perfect which makes interesting for people watching so we grabbed a table outside. The pricing is a bit steep which is to be expected since the café is very close to the Louvre. On to the menu, we ordered a half bottle of Bordeaux, french onion soup, croque monsieur, and a mixed plate of formage for two. We thought the portions were going to be small but to our surprise, they were a decent size. All of which were very filling and satisfying for our impending walk to the next tourist attraction. Our waiter spoke english which was helpful. The service was slow as to be expected… it’s like the saying, when in Rome do as the Romans do… or shall I say do as the Parisians do?

decent pub across from Louvre and a good inexpensive place to meet if you split up after touring said museum. Sadly the aforementioned Club Metropole is in retirement as Ric has moved to the South of France but some kindred souls still happen in on Thurs between three and five in the hopes of meeting likeminded lovers of Paris

This is a Café Tabac which I have unfortunately not yet visited. It is also a weekly meeting place for my Canadian mate Ric’s ‘Café Metropole Club’, which resides mostly in cyberspace but gracefully descends to Earth to meet at the Corona, generally on Thursdays. I believe that the attendees are generally anglophone and interesting. On the website, you will find many useful Paris links. The membership card displayed will get you in.
