Le Dindon en Laisse

A favorite Parisian restaurant. Goat cheese wrapped in filo pastry and the Risotto with pear and Gorgonzola were so fantastic that each time there, I get the same thing. Good wines. Excellent service, friendly, relaxed. Very much a local haunt.

My wife and I had a fantastic meal here for our last in a 9-​night visit. The poached salmon that I had plus the lamb that my wife had were superb. We enjoyed a fine bottle of wine and also the goat cheese in filo appetizer which was also great. We finished the evening with the most scrumptious warm chocolate cake in a crème sauce.

Very chill, cool place! Very unpretentious, and fantastic food. Good service too. Had a cassoulet that totally hit the spot — at least 3 different kinds of pork products in it. :) Blonde beer was super-​refreshing on a warm nite. Fruit crumble must have had crack cocaine in it as I needed more. I recommend it highly.

Had a very nice dinner here on a cold wet Parisian night, left in a much better mood! If not squeamish, or a vegetarian, ask about the origin of the name!

Le lieu né paye pas forcément de mine, l’intérieur est très sombre mais il y a un petit espace à l’extérieur et l’ambiance est chaleureuse. Les plats sont assez cher (environ 16 euros il me semble), mais il est aussi possible de prendre les entrée en grand format ce qui revient un peu moins cher.
Nous avons opté pour le risotto du jour (poire et gorgonzolla) qui était absolument divin, pile en bonne quantité, servi avec du pain tout aussi excellent.
Un bon petit bistrot à la française.
A noter: ils né prennent pas les tickets restau, le soir en tous cas.

What a great surprise! A wonderful little place we will surely return to.
Everything we ate was excellent, just excellent. We had the fish of the day (well executed salmon tartar with great subtle flavors), the pear risotto (perfect) and the waiter suggested a wonderful red wine to fit the dishes.
Finished with a surprisingly awesome war, chocolate cake — far from the run of the mill cakes they serve everywhere.
Atmosphere was warm and friendly, it’s obvious that local Parisians eat here often and are warmly welcomed by the staff.

This small quaint bistro restaurant is exceptional. Delicious food and exceptional service by Theo’. Our first night in Paris and we stumbled on this great place with the help of Unilocal App. Thank you. As it was raining and we were staying close by we didn’t want to venture too far, pleased it turned out like it did. Theo was very helpful with the menu as our French, well had none. He could speak English quite well for us to understand the meals. Hubby and I shared the goat cheese Filo pastry as entrée, perfect! Dressing on salad so nice. I had the duck with honey sauce, so glad I ordered this. Exceptional, hubby had steak tarte’ and he was impressed. Prices were very reasonable and they even gave us complimentary liquoers. Very friendly atmosphere.

Surprising!
Following Unilocal reference we walked here from our hotel. Staff is: ONE boy and a bartender. They do it ALL ! Food was superb and prepared exactly as ordered. We truly enjoyed the cheese in FILO dough, the beefsteak Bordalaise and pork loin with a mustard sauce. Exquisite. The server topped it with a complimentary taste of the house Armenac. All good!

Cherchez le dindon, vous trouverez la laisse. Ou cherchez la laisse et on trouvera le dindon. Tout est bon,

Four stars because of the food. They were wonderful on the phone and the server was nice, but there was a distinct Parisian vibe that made this non-​paranoid good traveler with only about 15 words of French feel scoffed. Oh we’ll. the food was great. And we just tried to kill ‘em with kindness. Even though we are so gauche as to not drink wine… Just a thought: ordering only a main course and drinking water may have had them harping on our «American-​ness» when our backs were (only slightly) turned. Despite all the «merci’s» we could muster. And, despite the good food, we’ll eat elsewhere. Still, for food only, the place deserves four twinklers.

Invité pour un dîner entre amis un samedi soir au Dindon en laisse, nom intriguant.
Je né connais pas bien les restaurants de ce quartier et encore moins cet établissement dont le nom m’amuse et au vue des avis je me dis que ça peut être une soirée agréable.
Nous avions une réservation pour 20h30 et nous arrivons avec mon copain un peu plus tôt mais sommes bien accueillis et assis à notre table. Je remarque tout de suite que ce restaurant est minuscule, en effet il faut vraiment réserver.
La décoration est dans les tons rouges avec un patchwork de plein photographies, peintures, objets accrochés sur les murs. On est dans une ambiance conviviale, sympathique, pas prise de tête avec de la cuisine 100% française. La serveuse était très attentive et amicale, avec un petit accent Québécois qui né gâche rien. Parfait pour un dîner entre amis.
La carte est assez petite mais avec plusieurs plats que j’avais envie d’essayer, ce qui est un bon point. J’opte finalement pour le tartare avec patates et en dessert un mi-​cuit au chocolat avec crème anglaise.
Le tartare était très léger et agréable, un peu trop de tomate dans la préparation à mon goût mais il restait très frais. Un bon plat. Les patates en revanche étaient quelconques, j’en ai fait totalement abstraction. Je voulais surtout manger de la viande ce soir là apparemment.
Le mi-​cuit était vraiment moyen. Pas très chocolaté et la crème anglaise trop froide. Du préparé vite fait mal fait. Finir le repas là-​dessus, alors que le tartare était bon, est assez décevant.
Mais qu’est-ce qui explique cette notation si dure si le plat principal était bon et l’ambiance sympathique, me demandez-​vous ?
Et bien justement à propose du service :
Nous étions quatre: mon copain, deux amies et moi. Ces deux amies et moi-​même avions commandé les 3 tartares.
Ce n’est pas notre serveuse qui s’est chargée d’apporter les plats principaux mais un homme qui apparemment travaille au comptoir du restaurant et qui en apportant les 3 tartares dit bien fort, sans ambiguïté et bien grassement :
«Ah ! Les tartares c’est donc pour les meufs !»
Surpris et sentant que ce n’était pas dit sur le ton de la plaisanterie, je relève tout de suite en précisant qu’aux dernières nouvelles je suis toujours un individu de sexe masculin et en le fixant en attendant au moins une excuse, une rectification sur ce qui aurait pu/​dû être une erreur. Mais rien. On né saura clairement jamais ce qu’il avait en tête en disant ça mais c’était clairement intentionnel et préparé.
Je né viens pas au restaurant pour me prendre des remarques homophobes. Cette attitude est inacceptable de la part de n’importe quel établissement.
Et ce qui est sûr c’est que je n’y reviendrai pas.
Dommage. Mais il y a des limites.
Insulter les clients en est une.

Samedi 15 décembre
Petit virée entre amis sur Paris. Envie de changer. Je tombe en faisant une recherché géolocalisée sur de nombreux avis favorables pour cette adresse. Le nom j’avoue me donne envie.
Nous voilà arrivés dans une petite salle, où le rouge du mur domine, l’ensemble est assez bruyant. Installé par une serveuse efficace et très sympathique, la saison hivernal nous pousse à prendre un petit rafraichissement.
Nos amies arrivent. La carte donne envie (et le souvenir des différents avis m’avaient ouvert l’appétit). J’opte pour une pièce de viande avec ses légumes et un gratin dauphinois. La viande est très bonne. Les légumes sont croquants, mais un peu trop poivré. J’apprécie le gratin. Un petit rouge pour parfaire tout ça plutôt agréable. Les trois autres se lancent dans le tartare. De l’avis général, il est bon et léger. La viande n’est pas hachée, mais coupée. Le tout accompagné d’une petite salade et des pommes de terre.
Je me serai bien lancé dans une assiette de formage, mais nous mettons l’option sur le mi-​cuit.
Dans l’ensemble plutôt satisfait, vallant très confortablement un 3. Cependant lors du service des trois tartares, la serveur a fait place à l’homme qui se tient derrière le bar et qui lance, peu aimablement, «et trois tartares pour les filles». Sauf qu’aux dernières nouvelles, mon copain qui porte la barbe n’a rien d’une damoiselle… Malgré une remarque de notre part, pas de mots, le voilà déjà loin. Deux options s’offrent à nous: soit on est à la limite d’un propos homophobe, soit cela manqué de professionnalisme. En tout cas, ça laisse un goût amer lors de notre sortie.

I do not understand all the good trip advisor and Unilocal reviews for this place. Are they paying people to write them? Worst meal in Paris hands down.
Went based on the reviews, with high expectations. Yes, it’s cheaper than fancy restaurants, and they serve fancy sounding food. However, I’d rather eat a delicious baguette for a euro than the crap they serve here.
It was empty and cold and weird, not in a cute way, except for an American meet-​up group full of loud obnoxious girls dining out on daddy’s black amex. Got the fois gras to start– it was served FROZEN in a mason jar. As we waited for it to defrost, our young, stressed out waitress kept asking if we were done yet, as clearly our entrees were sitting in the kitchen getting cold.
Finally she took away the fois, barely touched because it was mostly a block of ice (grossssss!), and brought my dish, a cassoulet that had been sitting in the oven and was too hot to eat for ten minutes, and my date’s dish, the duck, which sadly, would have been quite good, were it not COLD. The wine was gross, too. The cassoulet was dry and fatty all at once. Maybe I’m too picky having lived in the Southwest in cassoulet country, but it tasted like it had been made two weeks ago and was reheated for an hour.
On a side note, the place is haunted. About halfway through our meal, the lights flickered and a cold chill filled the air. The ghost of Marie Antoinette appeared in the window pleading with the chef to let us eat cake. We were at once afraid and mildly amused. The entire meal was a tease. Mere impressions of delicious food served old and cold.

Very cute place that was about a block from our rented flat. As others have mentioned, it’s a good idea to reserve because there are so few tables and it was nearly full at 8:15pm on a Thursday night.
My wife and I shared the risotto, she got the cassoulet, and I got the duck. Cassoulet was a fine enough example of the french classic and the risotto was delicious and rich. The duck was in a «honey sauce» that was slightly reminiscent of a Chinese preparation due to the presence of a lot of 5-​Spice. Also, received a carafe of still water without asking, which is very unusual in France.
Overall, I’d call this very solid comfort food, but not something I’d travel more than a few metro stops for. Also, the price point is a bit higher than some other reviews led me to believe. For two entrees, an app, and one of the cheaper bottles of wine, we ended up spending well over 80 euro.

This place is great. Small, so I recommend a reservation. There is one server, one person at the bar and one chef. Everything is fresh and homemade, and it’s in a great little area near the Bastille. The prices are reasonable and the atmosphere is cool with all the turkey art on the walls and the locals outside. During my two visits, I tried the cassoulet and the beef dish, both of which are good. For dessert I’ve tried the chocolate cake and the fruit crumble. However if I were you… I’d order :
1. Entrée– Gorgonzola and pear risotto– I had it as a main for their nightly special. It is rich and delicious.
2. Plat– the duck– The sauce is incredible and the vegetables are spot on. It comes with the most amazing au gratin potatoes.
3. Dessert– Panna Cotta with berries– sooo great.

Une superbe adresse, dans une petite rue pas trop fréquentée, entre bastille et le marais. Bref de quoi ce mettre au calme loin de l’agitation de ses deux cartier.
La décoration est très simple mais donne une bonne ambiance chaleureuse. Une carte qui donne envie et suffisamment diversifié pour plaire a tous, des vins très bien choisis. Je crois avoir gouté une bonne partie de la carte et je peux dire que tout est juste excellent, et fleure bon le frais, fait maison. Tous leurs plats son fin et gouteux. Petite préférence pour le magret au miel. Pour ce qui est des dessert, juste trop bon avec une mention pour la panacota de fruit rouge et le crumble, juste trop bon.
Pour ce qui est du prix je trouve que c’est plutôt correct contenu de la qualité de la cuisine. Une adresse qui fait du bien.

Fantastic! Service was great. Food… amazing! Goat cheese wrapped in filo pastry and then also Risotto with pear and Gorgonzola for appetizer. Superb. Duck breast served with veggies and potatoes with melted cheese for dinner. Perfect. Paired with a red wine recommendation from server, region Minervois. An entire bottle, plus. And then after dessert (warm chocolate cake with crème fresh), he puts a bottle of whiskey down on the table, on the house! I’m still a little tipsy as I write this recommendation! So great. So happy. So full!

La cuisine est maison, le service québécois est très agréable, et l’accueil très chaleureux.

They don’t start serving dinner until 8pm so we went to another bar and grabbed a happy hour drink.
My boyfriend and I shared the risotto with pear and gorgonzola (rich and creamy) as an app and duck breast with honey (the waiter recommended rare but we usually like our food a bit more cooked so medium rare ended up being perfect for us; tender and juicy) as the entrée. The app and the entrée both came with plenty of bread and the entrée came with a side of potatoes with melted cheese. Both were delicious, reasonably priced and definitely enough food (we did share a small app at another bar prior). My boyfriend ordered a glass of red wine and I think our total was around 30 euros?
The place is small and cozy and starts filling up around 9pm. The waiter was attentive in the beginning, took the time to explain everything but he got a little busy around 9 so took a bit for him to come around to give us our bill. I don’t know if he was the only waiter on shift?

Just got back. Wonderful meal and very cute place. Service was great. Delicious food.

Cool french vibe & dishes, foie, canard, steaktartare… pinot noir, côte du rhone…120 € 4 personnes sans dessert.

This was one of the more memorable meals of my short, insignificant life. For starters, Le Dindon en Laisse means Turkey on a Leash. C’mon now.
Moreover, it is the very definition of a family-​run neighborhood restaurant. At every turn, I was reminded of the fact that I was essentially dining in the home of the proprietor.
Perhaps this feeling was exacerbated by the entire family of the owner happily indulging in a meal next to us. This includes the kid who was PLAYING WORLD OF WARCRAFT IN THE DINING ROOM and only took a short break to scarf down the steak tartare, hug the bartender, and head back into the WOW. Amazing.
Also, the bathroom is in the cellar, past the game of checkers that was left halfway through so they could start service. This is impossibly adorable.
Finally, and most importantly, the food is fabulous. The bread was soft, the wine excellent, the risotto rich, and the potatoes au gratin creamy and perfect. The incredibly tender duck came highly recommended by the waiter, and it did not disappoint. The steak might have been rump, but it was masterfully cooked to the suppleness of a filet, and obscenely flavorful.
When I come back to Paris, I almost want to avoid Le Dindon en Laisse because at the moment it is absolutely perfect. I almost don’t want to spoil this idyllic image I have of this bistro that embodies the Paris I dreamt of, the restaurant I imagined when I finally booked the trip.

Le Dindon c’est une expérience à part entière.
Un vrai bar de quartier comme on n’en voit plus beaucoup à Paris et surtout dans ce quartier très touristique. Vous avez un bel échantillon de tous les styles de personnages que vous pouvez rencontrer dans le IVème. Les discussions sont animés, toutes les générations se côtoient dans la joie et la bonne humeur.
En ce qui concerne le restaurant rien à redire. Leur filet mignon fait partie de mes grands favoris. Les légumes sont de saisons et sortent tout droit de chez le primeur. Les produits sont frais, bien cuisinés. On retrouve les grands classiques dont le fameux tartare au couteau — vraiment coupé au couteau. Le seul petit défaut serait que la carte né change pas beaucoup, mais même on y allant très souvent je né me suis encore jamais lassé d’aucun plat. Donc bon…
L’ambiance en salle fait tout le charme de ce petit restaurant auquel on s’attaché très vite et où l’on revient encore et encore sans jamais vouloir changer de bar de quartier.
PS: en lisant quelques post je vous qu’il y en a certains qui n’ont pas apprécié les reflexions de «l’homme derrière le bar». Ce personnage est le patron du Dindon et il a clairement son caractère. Il peut avoir des sautes d’humeur plus ou moins appréciables, je le concède volontiers. Par contre il est loin d’être homophobe. Je voulais juste clarifier les choses.

Le resto comme à la maison, en mieux, parce que ces plats là, perso, je né les fais pas.
C’est petit (réservez!), convivial, toujours bondé, car c’est à la fois une adresse de quartier et d’habitués. Pas d’enseigne, une mini terrasse, rien d’ostentatoire ou de très raffiné (plutôt bonne franquette) mais dans l’assiette, serious business.
TOUT est bon: le risotto du jour (quel qu’il soit) est toujours à tomber, le gratin dauphinois itou.

Oh, how I love thee, sweet mouthfuls of silky, cheesy, creamy risotto. Oh, the savory, rich medallions of duck that made me want to eat an un-​godly portion of food, greedily wolfing my plate until my pants buckle screamed in protest.
Yes, Le Dindon en Laisse forces me into flowery speech, it’s that damn good. When I approached the door of this neighborhood hideout I could tell that most of the patrons were regulars, and that the unpretentious façade and interior artwork proved an ironic partner to the seductive meal to follow.
Our server was very nice. He was kind to explain the dishes to us in detail, and even complimented me on my French when we left! At least, I think he did – I heard the word «français» somewhere in there.
This will be a place to return to for years to come!

Situé sur une rue calme près de la Place des Vosges, Le Dindon in Laisse est un petit restaurant de quartier, avec certains des meilleurs plats que j’ai mangés. Le risotto est incroyable! Grand verre de vin coule!

Pros: food was excellent, the foie gras was delicious and much better than ones I’ve had in five star restaurants in the US, everything we ordered was prepared well especially the duck with honey and duck sausage/​confit, the waiter treated us well and spoke English to us without attitude. Best meal we had in France.
Cons: rather small place with few seats, though has both inside and outside tables, there is a club of some sort in the basement I think, the ambience is one of quirky quaintness but we felt comfortable
I would definitely return if pocket book allowed. It was 15 – 20 something euros per entrée, with 26 euro foie gras appetizer for two. Btw foie gras was big enough to share among five people.

Mauvaise expérience!
Un ami en qui j’ai d’habitude confiance m’a suggéré d’aller y faire un tour, car la nourriture y était, paraît-​il, de bonne qualité. Sur ce point, il faut admettre qu’on mange pas trop mal pour un quartier qui né propose que des bistrots à touristes ou des adresses hors de prix. Après, il faut relativiser, on trouve aussi bien et mieux ailleurs dans Paris, et pour moins cher.
Mais la raison pour laquelle je prends la peine d’écrire est l’indélicatesse inédite avec laquelle nous avons été reçu!
L’accueil a d’abord été plus que glacial, pour tout dire, nous avions l’impression de déranger les quelques clients dans cette fameuse «ambiance de quartier».
Le patron a fait preuve d’une antipathie rare, fait des commentaires déplacés à voix haute sur les clients attablés, le tout surmonté d’une haleine digne des meilleurs crus. Bref, une drôle d’ambiance…
Cerise sur le gâteau, impossible de régler par CB, pour une machine soit disant en panne, mais qui a l’air de né fonctionner en réalité que lorsque le resto a fait suffisamment de cash…

Le top of the restaurant in Paris…

C’est avec tristesse que je vais devoir émettre un avis très défavorable. J’ai tout simplement été outré, en voyant le patron jetant un client la tête la première sur le trottoir…à 4 h du matin ! S’il parait gentil et accepte de prolonger son horaire d’ouverture au delà du raisonnable dans une ambiance allègrement enfumée, il semblerait qu’il ait l’alcool mauvais et n’accepte plus le réglement en carte bancaire passé une certaine heure (encore «légale»). Prévoyez donc du cash si vous né voulez pas finir à l’hopital.
Tout celà justifie cependant des prix très corrects.

Le meilleur des petits bars de Paris. Tout simplement. Un peu pommé dans une ruelle près du village st Paul, il est tout petit et à une terrasse avec 2 — 3 tables. Les gérants sont adorables, et m’ont même ouverts la porte un lundi soir vers 1h, alors qu’il n’y avait plus personne Tres bonne ambiance
