We had been at this gem of a restaurant 3 years ago and thought we would try it again. A good meal and good value. We had the steak, big enough to share. Cooked on an open fireplace in the main dining area. Thoroughly enjoyable. Near Notre Dame in the Latin Quarter. We have found it challenging to find a reliable & reasonable place to eat in Paris– so many choices, so mediocre, so nice to see this one has lasted. NOTE: they are not available on the net so call for reservations when you are in Paris. The LePetitChatelet on the web is an apartment.

Came here on a recommendation and glad we had. Started out with some vegetable soup and terrine of artichoke and smoked duck. Also the escargot was outstanding. Then we moved on to a fish combo and steak au Poivre. Not heavy cream or heavy handed with the pepper. Rainy ugly night on the outside, warm and friendly inside by the wait staff.

We had a wonderful evening here. This was my and my husband’s first dinner on our first night in Paris ever, and it was more than we ever could have hoped for. Just a bit of background though: I’d done a lot of research before we visited Paris, and I have a rough understanding of the language. There were things I knew that affected how we behaved, and as a result, I think defined the service we received. We did not have reservations. At the time I knew that could have been problematic, so we showed up right at 7 when they opened for dinner. We greeted the server outside in French, told her we didn’t have a reservation(in French), apologized profusely(also in French), and she cheerfully said it wasn’t a problem and seated us anyway. There was only one other table taken at the time. We were very lucky! The menu came on a giant slate, which I loved. We didn’t need any assistance with understanding it, but it took us a while to pick what we wanted, and the waitress happily gave us an extra minute to decide. I ordered Le Formule, with Escargots Petit Chatelet, Chicken Supreme, and Crème Brulee. Husband ordered three separate courses, Pan-Fried Mushrooms, Lamb Skewers, and Profiteroles. We also ordered a bottle of Bouchard Pere & Fils that got us a «Good choice!» from the waitress. Personally, this being one of our first French restaurants, we thought the food was phenomenal. I love the way they do escargot in the tureen with a creamy sauce and a puff pastry cap. The chicken was great, and husband said the lamb was cooked just right. Our desserts were knock-outs. The wine was indeed a good choice, and we drank the whole bottle before we left. We’d been prepared for a longer wait between courses, but we didn’t really feel like things took all that long. We did spend 2 – 2.5 hours there total. Service was attentive when it needed to be, and when we asked for it, as I’ve learned is the way in France. The owner came out to see how things were at the end and even jokingly corrected me when I used the wrong tense to say everything was incredible, as apparently the way I’d said it at the time implied that my HUSBAND was incredible. Which is also true, but not what I wanted to say at the time. We all had a good laugh at that. People, do your research and know some of the language before you do the fancy French restaurant thing. They don’t operate the same way as they do in your country. It was our experience that when we tried to meet them halfway, we had a wonderful time.

This restaurant was charming and the food was amazing! My husband and I shared a couple different appetizers and the steak. The steak was prepared right in front of us, it was absolutely delicious. The Chablis was also perfect and went well with our meal. The staff for very personable and helped translate the menu in English. I would highly recommend paying this little gem a visit next time your in Paris.

Easily the worst dining experience I’ve ever had. The waiters(with the exception of one young girl) were rude. When I asked one of them if they had a bathroom(in French) said«do you have one at your house? It is the same here» and then refused to say anything else in English. We waited over one hour for our starters and over 1.5 hours for our meals. No one ever came to ask how our food was, if we needed additional drinks, or gave us salt/pepper/condiments. Chicken au jus was mediocre, tasted like something from a frozen dinner, and my mother had the steak which was too tough to eat. All around horrible experience.

My wife and I were looking to enjoy some wine before dinner close to our hotel on our last night in Paris on 09/09/2015 around 7:00pm. It was early for dinner and we did not want to go partake in cocktails at a bar in Latin Quarter. We thought the Le Petit Chatelet would provide a relaxing environment for us to enjoy the sights and sounds of the Latin Quarter with some good wine. There were only two tables currently taking by customers and almost all the tables were available. We picked a table and were were greeted by a server and a wine menu. We ordered a Burgundian 1er and were excited about our selection until the server brought the large chalk board with the meal options and demanded we order food. While it was too early for dinner, we thought we could maybe order a couple entrée’s to go along with our wine order. Our server rudely told us to order a meal or we had to leave. My wife and I are very respectful travelers and always try to honor local etiquette. This was our first rude encounter in Paris and completely unnecessary. The server did not offer an alternative nor did he give us an opportunity to explain. Our French is poor at best and I did not notice any signs saying you had to order a full meal to sit at an outdoor table. I think it is also fair to mention the wine we had ordered would have been more than the food we would have ordered. It is also quite possible we would have ordered food or additional wine. I place a heavy emphasis on service and this may just be one server in an otherwise stellar staff, but it certainly left a considerable negative impression of our French dining experience. It was certainly not the way we wanted to spend our last evening in Paris. Instead of remembering the other numerous wonderful dining experiences, we are left with the thought of being asked to leave a restaurant because we were not hungry, yet. A complete disappointment. As our last meal in Paris, went here based on the high recommendations. Unfortunately our meal was average at best… Starting with a soft chew past it’s day baguette… was an indicator of things to come. Veal scallopini was over cooked with it being almost tough. The pomme frites as the side dish were a bit on the oily side, disappointing based on past reviews. Steak with pepper sauce was cooked correctly but unremarkable in tenderness as well as flavor. France has 4 temperatures for meat as so our server indicated; blue, bloody, medium, and well with our server struggling to provide a fair description of what each related to as far as doneness. We guessed correctly with bloody being medium rare… Interesting given that we have ordered medium rare on this visit and had no challenges. Steak with béarnaise sauce… see the steak with pepper sauce description… same commentary. The accompanying scalloped potatoes for both steak dishes were dry in texture and average flavor. 3 stars… average meal, will not push anyone toward visiting. Unfortunate last meal for our trip.

The best meal we had on our last night in Paris. Beautiful view of Notre Dame. Sit outside. Excellent food at a reasonable price(unusual for Paris) a family owned restaurant for 65 years. The owner cooks in his kitchen. You won’t be disappointed.

Chanced upon this place as it’s next to the Shakespeare and Company bookstore. Excellent tasting food and the foie gras pâté was delectable. Sea bass and scallops are not to be missed and the the tomato soup has a nicely rich texture. Fresh ingredients that made all the difference. Waiters are very attentive and speak English well enough to explain.

The food here is spectacular. Outstanding Tomatoes and Mozzarella salad. Vine ripened, and Just the right amount of sea salt. Scallops were OK, but not a good value. The Braised figs and Violet ice cream, quite possibly the best dessert I have EVER had: Unique, done right! The service attitude here is arrogant and inflexible, but efficient; and the scenery — with the Cathedral de Notre Dame towering overhead — is exquisitely romantic.

Best dinner we had in Paris and a gem in the Latin a Quarter. My steak was delicious and my wife enjoyed the duck. The place was packed with people, but the young, attentive waiters managed to seat us immediately outdoors with a great view of Notre Dame. The dessert was memorable: crème brûlée with a mango and berry filling… delicious. We paid about 30% more compared to other Latin Quarter restaurants, but the quality of the food and service was well worth it.

After visiting Notre Dame we passed by this great restaurant for lunch. I had such a delicious burger along with delicious fries. The server was great, attentive for the most part considering it was extremely busy. My friends ordered a burger as well and cappuccino’s. Which they said were delicious. It’s located right on the side of the cathedral and near the Latin Quarter.

We only had 24 hours in Paris, and we chose Le Petit Chatelet to be where we would have dinner. When we arrived, they said they had no more seats left, although there were some open tables outside. When we pointed to the tables outside, they finally let us sit there for dinner. A waiter came around with a chalkboard menu and placed it on a chair next to us. We ended up ordering the beef tartare, escargots, steak, and duck. The waiter seemed shocked that we would order all this food for just 2 people, but we were just too darn excited to have as much French food as we could! The food was great. The escargots was inside this creamy pot pie that was really flaky and very comforting to eat. The beef tartare was massive, so if you can only handle small amounts of beef tartare at a time, then this dish might not be for you. The steak and duck were also marinated well and cooked well. All in all, we had a great dining experience here. The location is amazing as everyone on Unilocal has already mentioned!

Cute little restaurant near Notre Dame. We were the first ones there and snagged a table outside. Great view for people watching as it’s near the Latin Quarter and Notre Dame. We got a bottle of house red wine. We started with the escargot which was served under a puffy pastry shell with mushroom sauce. So amazing. I was sopping up the sauce with bread after the escargot was gone. I then decided to be adventurous and tried the duck with caramel sauce. Sounds gross but somehow it worked perfectly. The sweet sauce was a nice compliment to the duck. We ended our meal with an ice cream topped crêpe. Traditional French meal, can’t go wrong!

Visited the Le Petit Chatelet by searching for best restaurant near me in Unilocal while on our recent business trip. The restaurant is located near Notre Dame so the location is very nice. We walked-in and sat outside hoping for a nice dinner. After we sat down, an older gentleman with a beard came with a menu board describing the menu. Obviously the menu was in French so we asked if he could help us order in English. He said he didn’t speak English and left the menu board on a chair and left. So we started translating the menu items one by one via Google translate and managed to figure out what to order. Later on we noticed he was actually speaking English to another couple behind us. Very rude indeed. Thankfully another English speaking younger waiter helped us with the rest and managed to order a bottle of wine. We ordered the Foie Gras and smoked salmon to start and then Entrecôte steak for entrée. My Foie Gras was nothing special(a little grainy) and Entrecôte steak was absolutely horrible! Steak was raw, chewy and tasted like burned smoke and looks like it was flash fired. I would recommend to stay away from this place and find another option.

French cuisine never ceases to impress and Little Chatelet is no exception. Found myself stumbling in on an odd Friday, not realizing next door is the famous Shakespeare & Company(among Americans anyway). There’s something special about that beef tartar — seems they’ve found that delicate balance between tart and fattiness to achieve the perfect mouth feel. The grilled salmon was ace, not least because it’s in the company of broth prepped veggies and mushrooms. Together with a bottle of red under a half cloudy sky — afternoon made.

We came here on our anniversary, based on the Unilocal ratings as well as the view of Notre Dame. Arriving at opening time we were able to get a table outside facing Notre Dame. The staff was friendly and helpful, the food was excellent– one of the best meals of our ten-day trip. Apart from the bread(which was fantastic) we shared an entrée of escargot, which was pleasantly cooked in a creamy soup and served in a bowl, topped with a puffy bread. For our main course, my wife had the sea bass with scallops, which I felt was very good: crisp skin but juicy, soft meat. The scallops were also very fresh. I had the rib steak smoked in wood(«formidable d’entrecôte au feu de bois»). I have no better way of saying it but it was the best steak I have ever had, and my wife would agree. Already stuffed, we decided to end the night with a crème brûlée, which was very, very good. I highly recommend this place, which contrary to experience, is filled with fellow tourists, yet serves excellent food at a good price. We would definitely come here again on our next trip to Paris.

Found this little place tucked away in a little side street near Notre Dame, right next to the Shakespeare and Company. If you’re ordering your food in English, please note that«entrée» means«appetizer» in French! There was much confusion while we were ordering, but the staff here were very gracious and accommodating. The food and service here are amazing. The complete opposite of the tourist trap I went to the night before coming here. The melon/ham/arugula salad appetizer was delicious. All of our entrees were great, but the part of this dinner that I will remember is the dessert. It was without a doubt the best crème brûlée I’ve ever had… I was almost brought to tears. It’s that good. For the quality of food and service, the price is actually pretty reasonable. Will be coming back here next time I’m in Paris… hopefully soon.

Such a cozy restaurant right across from Notre Dame! We did not have a reservation on a Sunday night and were lucky to get in(2 of us). The lower level is rather small and an equal sized room is upstairs. There is a fire that they cook over in the lower level. The ambiance of this place was great! They had a 3-course meal deal but we decided to order 3 courses that were not included. We started by spliting a bottle of wine. Next we both ordered salads. My salad was delicious! I could not get enough of it! I ordered the sea bass and scallops for my main entrée. It was just as good as the salad. To seal the dinner, I ordered the crème brûlée. It came out as two dishes, one mango and the other strawberry. Yummy! So glad we found this place and they had a table available! Overall, the two of us spent around 89 Euros. This had the best bathrooms I used in Paris(besides my hotel). This is a huge plus in my book!

A essayer à l’occasion…
