Came at 1100 pm and the tall white haired gentleman lured us in with his wonderful friendliness and great English. Told us they close at 12. We were the only other table there and finally the only one. It was a little lonely but just fine. Got a chef’s salad, chocolat chaud avec rhum and a lait chaud avec miel. Everything was excellent. The salad was huge, the milk was delish and heard the hot choc was good too. Pretty pricey but that’s what you get in this area. Got charged 50 euro for butter. Bread was nice and soft. It was right across street from the side of opera.

Bad service rude and impatient wouldn’t accommodate simple changes. I loved most places in Paris but this place was not the best and I wish it wasn’t raining otherwise I would have walked in to find a better place

If I could put minus 4 stars I would. I’m Parisian and am always horrified when I find such bad service in my own city. Don’t run a brasserie if you’re incapable. Tourists please make sure you don’t stop here, it’s a trap.

We walked in because as we were looking at the menu a waiter(or the owner???) walked out and spoke to us. So glad we stopped here. We weren’t particularly hungry so we had the lighter fare — smoked salmon w/cavier. It was delicious. We also decided to celebrate our time in Paris with champagne and he brought us a very dry and fine champagne. He suggested the apple pie and it was heavenly!!! I don’t particularly like apple pie, but it was more like an apple sauce pie. Very, very tasty and smooth. AND, the waiter spoke English and was very personable. We hope to go back again before we leave.

We didn’t plan to eat here. Actually we were touring on the hop on/hop off Red Bus and had just hopped off in this area when we found ourselves starving. Seeing that most of the rating were dated and both 1-star reviews were complaining about expensive prices,(this is the Opera district in the heart of Paris, of course prices are expensive), we ignored the low rating and gave this place a go. Turned out that it was a good decision. I was expecting to spend an arm and a leg for lunch, but their prices were actually about 25% cheaper than places like Angelina. And the food was good. The chicken sandwich(see photo) that I had here was better than the one that I had at Angelina(see previous review). Serving size was large as it was served on a full-length baguette. The sliced fresh chicken breast meats were really yummy, and was served with a delicious and slightly tangy sauce! The combination with the sliced hard-boiled eggs(a popular way of making sandwiches in France) and tomatoes were excellent. The only thing that I didn’t like was that the baguette was a bit too chewy. I would love to have it toasted instead. The French fries were great — in fact the best fries that I’ve had during my entire week in Paris. You could taste that the fries were made with fresh potatoes and they were fried to perfection and served fresh from the fryer. The omelet,(which is often eaten for lunch instead of breakfast in France) was really good. It was served with a salad that was fresh and tasty. The portion of the filling was generous and yummy! Overall we enjoyed our lunch here and were happy with both the food and the service. The service was in fact quite good and efficient by Paris standard. We would love to eat here again on our next visit to Paris.

Incredibly rude staff. Food was mediocre and multiple errors from our waiter, who seemed like he simply didn’t want to be bothered with us

Warning: Take care and be aware!!! This is a classical tourist rip-off spot in the city. Very poor service and very high prices when you see the menu. And when you see the served meals you can see the poor quality as well. When you see a café with a red plastic roof which is located next to the Opera in paris, please stay away. And dont come to the idea to visit the toilet when you pass by, as an angry waiter will come and force you to pay 2,-Euro if you are not consuming anything. See our comment below for more details. It is really a shame for such a beautiful and modern city.

A EVITER!!!

C’etait trop bon. Excelent rapport qualité/prix. Vraiment un endroit à recommander.
